Transaction #1:
I bought eight Pantene and four Febreze candles.
(NOTE: Three of my candles were pear scent and on clearance for $2.38 each. They DID trigger the Catalina.)
I used a $5-off-3 Pantene coupon, a $1 Pantene printable, and four B1G1F Pantene coupons.
I used two $1 Febreze candle coupons and two Buy One Get One Free candle coupons.
I paid $10.64 (plus tax) and got a $15 Catalina.
(I also used my Jewel card so the Febreze will be applied to that $25/$5 ecoupon offer. I’ll go back and do another deal on Febreze candles or Set & Refresh tomorrow.)
Transaction #2:
I bought two Tide and one box of Puffs.
I used two $2 Tide coupons and one .25 Puffs coupon, plus the $15 Catalina from the first transaction.
I paid $17.40 (plus tax) and got a $15 Catalina.
Notes, especially if these kinds of deals are new to you…
Verify the prices of everything you’re buying! I’ve heard from readers who found Tide priced at $14.99 at their stores. Most of the Febreze Set & Refresh air fresheners that I saw were priced at $2.50, not the $4.49 listed in the ad. If the price is lower, you’ll need more items to get to the $35 mark.
Clearance items may work – they did for me. My store was nearly out of Febreze candles, but they had a crazy quantity of pear scent Febreze candles on clearance for $2.38. I used these for one of my transactions today to test it out and see if the clearance candles worked — they did! Of course, if you find clearance items, use the clearance prices to count up to $35.
Coupon policy at Jewel: I have heard from some readers today who had issues using a dollars-off coupon with a Buy One Get One Free. This usage is allowed under Jewel-Osco’s coupon policy if you would like to read it or print a copy. Here’s the part that specifically addresses this:
– A cents off coupon may be used with a B1G1Free coupon, redeemable on the purchased item.
– One Manufacturer coupon and one Store coupon may be redeemed per item.
Stay within the limits: P&G coupons are all limited to four like coupons per person per day. Today I heard from a cashier that the Schaumburg store issued a memo advising stores to limit quantities and enforce the 4 like coupons per household per day — they said they have a known “extreme couponer” who comes in and cleans that store out. The memo has been sent to all Jewel stores.
One of my readers reported a pair of shoppers at two different stores today buying hundreds of bottles of Pantene at a time – as in, two entire shopping carts filled with Pantene. Behaviors like this don’t help anyone — they tend to give all couponers a bad name, and people clearing shelves can lead to quantities being limited for shoppers.
We are not “extremists,” and this is a good opportunity to show our stores that we aren’t there to buy hundreds of bottles of Pantene in the same day..! Plus, the ethics of what we do are important to me, and hopefully they are to you too. Let’s abide by the “Limit 4” on our coupons, go shop, and have some fun.
I’d love to hear any good scenarios you are coming up with for this sale too! Feel free to post them in the comments below.

Moving over a great Tide scenario from Reader Outlander:
I think Tide deal is better this way:
Buy 2 Tide and 2 Pantene for $36.98 and use 2 $2/1 Tide, and $1/1 Pantene and 1 BOGO Pantene.
Pay $13.48 for all 4 things, after $15 cat.

My mom went to the Jewel in Wilmette at Green Bay Road and purchased:
7 Pantene Shampoos and 3 Pantene Conditioners (all with the tags saying it is part of the deal)
so 10 X $3.50 each = $35.
She used:
3 B1G1 Free Coupons ($35 – $10.50 = $24.50)
2 of the $5 off of 3 ($24.40 – $10 = 14.50)
1 $1 off Printable ($14.50 – $1 = 13.50)
The catalina didn’t print, so she went to customer service and they re-scanned just the items and even though they rang up at $35, the catalina still didn’t print. Eventually, she was given a $15 catalina by customer service, but just a note to be careful and watch out regarding the printouts.

I also did an all- Bounty deal:
3 Bounty 12 count, so $12.99 x 3 = $38.97
Used the $1.50 off 3 coupon from this week’s PG
So, $37.47. Then after the $15 catalina, that is like getting it for $22.47, which breaks down to $7.49 per 12count package, or 63 cents per roll.
Not too bad!

So I got home crime jewel a little bit ago and my cashier wasn’t friendly and wouldn’t take all my coupons. My two yr old was with me and the ladies at customer service were busy so I’ll have to go back and adjust it but correct me if I’m wrong.
I got 8 shampoo/conditioners I had four b1b1 all which were taken.
I had $5 off three (could you use two of these since we had 6 bottles?) but she wouldn’t take it. She was making a big deal about not combining b1g1 with $ off…she was starting to get a line and I could tell people were annoyed so I didn’t press it when she told me no twice.
Then I got four candles and again would only take the b1g1 not the $ off.
I didn’t have a copy of the policy and when I told her I follow a coupon blogger and this is what you told us. She told me no and roller her eyes at me. I know I should have just ole her forget it and I would go to a different jewel but I had been at the register for about 10 mins already. :(

In Arizona, the Albertsons paper does not have pantene listed on sale. I am hoping it is included. Are the catalinas national? Our ads show the P & G sale is buy $15 get $5 off. I am going to try an all Pantene deal tomorrow and see what happens.

i bought the puffs, 4 pantene and 8 febreez set n refresh. the febreze was on sale for 2.50 so i didnt hit my 35.00 mark. i used 2 bogo for the shampoo and 4 bogo for the febreze plus 2.00 off pantene and 2 1.50 off for febreze and .25 for puffs. i paid just under 15.00 and got a 10.00 catalina. so after catalina under 5.00 for everything. i think that is awesome!!!! as i do this more i will learn to pay more attention to tags and add up as i go but either way i’m a happy girl and want to say thank you Jill for sharing all you know with us!!! i am truly greatful!!!

Hello everyone,
Went to the Jewel on Larkin Ave in Elgin yesterday. All the price tags did specify $35.00 total must be met after all coupons applied. Spent some time in the store reorganizing my coupons. Did two deals and the $15.00 did print.
Had a rude cashier that did not want to let me use a B1G1 free on the pantene and then another coupon on the purchased item. she told me that I had to buy one. I told her I was buying one and applying a coupon to that item and the other bottle was the free one. She still said no and I asked her if she wanted to see the coupon policy. I pulled out the copy from my purse and she said (in a not so happy voice) “never mind”. She took the coupons off manually because the register beeped when she scanned it.
How is everyone getting the $15 cat when their totals after coupons do not meet the $35 minimum?????
HELP?? Would love to get the items cheaper. Thanks Chris

I did go to Albertsons this morning and it is the same here in AZ. I did not buy any though as I had a bad headache trying to figure it all out. Plus, I realized I do not need any more shampoo and conditioner for at least 6 more months! I did read the tag on shelf – it says have to reach $25 before coupons! That is too many Shampoo and Conditioner for me to buy since I do not buy febreze. Good thing I did not buy anything – I came home to find I have to buy almost $300 of medicine that insurance does not cover!!! :(

I was at my Jewel this morning, P&G had a couple of sales reps there with a display and a little spin the wheel get a prize (samples)game. They told me that ALL P&G items are part the the spend $35 get $15 (and so on), but they just may not be on sale like the ones showed in the ad.
I have not worked it all out yet (or tried it) but I grabbed some prices on diapers and wipes and they may turn out to be a pretty good price.

Here’s one that needs to be done TODAY as it utilizes the expiring $5/3 Pantene coupon. It’s reminiscent of the “Black Belt” days as it goes off-ad*, but it’s a lovely thing executed.
Buy:
1 Tide $17.49
3 Pantene Shampoos $10.50
3 Pantene STYLERS $14.97
Total $42.96
Coupons:
$2 Tide
$5/3 Pantene
3 B1G1 Pantene ($14.97)
$20.99 plus $15 Catalina back = $5.99
I’ve found the couponing game isn’t as much fun to play due to the multitude of changes (in store ownership, deal structures, coupon policies, etc.) over the years, but this one is as close to “the old days” as I’ve come in a long time.
*Stylers aren’t listed in the ad and may or may not be tagged for inclusion in the stores. They do, however, count towards your $35 purchase requirement.
