It’s officially summertime, and Chicagoland has the humidity and temperatures to prove it! I love this time of year, as summer means spending lots of time in the sun, eating outdoors on our deck, and hosting gatherings with our family and friends. I find that meal-planning is especially fun in the summer too — there are so many foods that make great platters, finger foods, or snacks!
My local Jewel-Osco is just five minutes away from my house, so it’s very convenient to take a quick drive over and pick up anything we need, even on short notice. Don’t you love those impromptu gatherings that can happen as quickly as “Let’s get together on Friday night — and, oh, by the way… it’s your turn to host!”
If you’ve been to Jewel recently, it’s likely you have noticed Primo Taglio® meats and cheeses in the deli department. Primo Taglio is Jewel-Osco’s exclusive line of premium, hand-trimmed meats and naturally-aged cheeses. The name is Italian for “first cut quality,” and you’ll find a wide assortment of products that bring old-world quality and taste to your table.
I recently headed to Jewel-Osco to pick out a few things for a charcuterie board for a small get-together with family. Everything in the Primo Taglio line is made with traditional, time-honored preparations, and the vast majority of the products have no artificial colors, flavors, or MSG. With Primo Taglio meats, you’ll find whole-muscle meat cuts with no binders or fillers. Cheeses use the highest quality milk and can be naturally aged up to two years.
For our charcuterie slate, I chose the following Primo Taglio selections:
- Primo Taglio Italian Dry Salame
Made with wine and garlic, this salame has a traditional flavor, and these small cuts are the perfect size for a shareable tray with friends. - Primo Taglio Prosciutto
This was outstanding! Hand-trimmed and salted, this Prosciutto is minimally-processed and dry cured for a minimum of seven months. It has no sodium nitrates or nitrites. (It was also Mr. Cataldo’s favorite item on the tray!) - Primo Taglio Goat Cheese log
I really like the tangy flavor of chèvre, and this one’s made with traditional French cheesemaking techniques. It has a rich and smooth spreadable texture, and would be perfect paired with small toast or crackers too. These come in plain, garlic and herb, and honey flavors. - Primo Taglio Parmesan Cheese Wedge
This was my favorite charcuterie item! Some Parmesans are too firm to cut, but this one made perfect slices and was delicious as a cut cheese. - Primo Taglio Roast Beef
These slices are made from hand-trimmed whole muscle and are slow roasted to rare temperature. It had very nice marbling and was lightly seasoned. We all thought that it would have made a great sandwich too!
All of these Primo Taglio items, and more, are available at your local Jewel-Osco store. If you’re curious about trying any of them, this is a great time to do so! You can discover savings on Primo Taglio items right now through Jewel-Osco’s Just For U ecoupons through 7/8/19! You’ll also find additional Primo Taglio coupons in the 6/16 Redplum insert from your newspaper.
I believe you’ll find that Primo Taglio meats and cheeses are of equal or better quality as other brands, and they’re also priced affordably. Why not give them a try this summer?

Ooh, this looks good! How is the flavor of the garlic goat cheese? Overpowering?
Also I love your slate tray. Where did you get it?

It’s good! If you like goat cheese, it’s got a good texture where it’s creamy and spreadable, and the garlic is prevalent throughout but definitely not overpowering.
The cheese slate tray came from a home goods type store — it’s Twine brand and is the same as this one, minus the writing: https://amzn.to/2LuH101
