All of the gardeners and farmers can perhaps help me with this one…
Our garden is growing vigorously, and I’ve been picking zucchini and green beans. I’ve also been waiting for something, anything from my cucumbers. Finally, I see some fruits forming, but they’re not exactly looking like cucumbers..!
I’d love to know what happened. My beautiful mom is calling this a pumpcucumkin.
More photos below, including one of the whole plant, if that helps anyone identify…

I just did a Google search for “pumpkin vine pictures”, and here is one I pulled up:

Lets see if this link will work so you can compare a picture I found. I think you have nice looking pumpkins growing! I did see a cuke variety called “lemon cucumbers” when I was looking at seeds at Walmart the other day. That’s just because they are yellow though. I’m betting you either had some seeds left in your soil OR a bee cross pollinated and you have some funky new hybrid!!!

My first thought was lemon cucumber but my lemon cukes are more yellow, bumpier and do not have that thick stalk. Cross breeds can get you weird stuff. One year my sweet corn, Indian corn, and strawberry and blue popcorn all cross pollinated….bizarre stuff. None of it edible, but all pretty.

We have a whole patch of pumpkins growing this year and what you have are definitely pumpkins! We had corn grow back where we didn’t plant it this year and mint is growing in our compost pile from where we put the garden clean up in it in the fall.

Every year I have gourds and pumpkins growing from where the squirrels plant it usually. This year too. And I also throw my fall pumpkins and gourds under the big bushes in front of the house to rot in the winter. A couple of years ago we trimmed those bushes so the seeds got sun and we had about 5 different kind of gourds growing and had about 50 to pick in the end!
Speaking of zucchini, I planted 2 this year first time and while they are growing beautifully there are no zucchini on it. But my cucumbers are doing great and we already ate some and still have 3 in the fridge to eat.

Hi Jill- I wanted to show you my 3 squash from my garden. I planted green zucchini and yellow summer squash and the light green thing must be a cross-pollination variety. Funny things happening in our gardens this year!
I have had squash for 2 weeks now but am just getting my 1st cucumbers this week. Hopefully yours will be coming on any day now as well! I have 2 varieties of cukes so far from the 2 I planted….we will see if a 3rd emerges?
