Earlier this week, my husband and I headed out for a much-needed date night! We went to Longhorn Steakhouse in Schaumburg, Illinois to try some dishes from their new fall menu. Neither of us had dined at Longhorn Steakhouse before, so this promised to be a fun night out for the two of us…
Longhorn Steakhouse is promoting two new menus: Chef’s Showcase and Peak Season. The Chef’s Showcase menu features two new items, Porcini Portabella Ribeye and Pork Osso Bucco.
The Fall Into Flavor: Peak Season menu offers new dishes made with seasonal ingredients, including Oktoberfest Sam Adams beer cheddar pretzels and a pumpkin lava cake. Both looked fantastic! We began browsing the menu and my husband liked their $12.99 3-course steak dinner — salad, steak and dessert, all for $12.99!
We ordered the beer cheddar pretzels for our appetizer as I continued waffling over getting beef or pork. The Longhorn Steakhouse ribs looked fantastic as well, and ultimately, they won as my choice for dinner. Our Sam Adams beer cheddar pretzels arrived:
These were fantastic! The consistency of the dough was much more pastry-like than pretzel-like — almost like a yeast doughnut. They were served warm, and they were very tasty. The pretzels came with a cup of honey mustard and a cup of Sam Adams beer cheddar cheese. Both were delicious. (I should add that while I do not drink beer, I do like things made with beer. Strange, I know. Years ago, a restaurant near us used to serve the most amazing cheddar beer soup, and this sauce was very reminiscent of that — sweet and sharp.
After the appetizer, our entrees arrived. My husband ordered the 6oz. Renegade Sirloin with potato, and I ordered a slab of BBQ ribs with rice pilaf:
Both of these were very good – I know because we both tried each other’s! He ordered his steak medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly – seared outside and pink inside. My ribs were coated with a dry spice rub, then sauced over that, and they fell off the bone. They weren’t a terribly “messy” rib, but I appreciated the hot, wet towel that the server brought to clean up with too.
While we ate, we watched some Monday Night Football, as our booth was near the bar. (My husband appreciated this!)
Dessert time! My husband’s dinner plan came with his choice of cinnamon dough bites or a peanut butter cup sundae. He chose the cinnamon dough bites. They came with a sweet raspberry sauce to dip in, and they were just as delicious as they look. I really wanted to try the pumpkin spice lava cake too:
This had a great flavor, but I do like all things pumpkin! It was drizzled in a Maker’s Mark bourbon-caramel sauce, though you couldn’t taste the alcohol too much. The center of the cake was filled with the same cream cheese frosting that’s on top, so while it didn’t “flow” out like most lava cakes typically do, we enjoyed plenty of cream cheese and cake from the first bite to the last. The perfect end to a great date night!

We don’t have one in town, but when we go up shopping around Orland Park we have eaten here before. I think they have the best salad in town! You can make a meal off of that it is so full of ingredients. I also love the service and the atmosphere there. Always a winner! We have used our Darden gift cards there too because they also own Olive Garden and Red Lobster as well.
