Last week I shared some ways that the Box Tops for Education program helps schools save money. Box Tops can be found on many products, including lots of popular General Mills brands. Each one is worth ten cents to your child’s school. My children collect Box Tops all year long for their school. They save them up in preparation for a fun game their school plays when winter weather starts to roll around… “Snowball Fight!”
Instead of throwing real snowballs at each other, the classes at their elementary school get to “throw” snowballs at each other based on how many Box Tops for Education they bring to school. For every 50 Box Tops a class collects, they get a paper snowball to stick on another classroom’s door.
As the school-wide snowball battle continues, more and more paper snowballs pile up on each classroom’s door, and it’s fun to walk around and see which rooms are being bombarded with snowballs.
Last year, I remember visiting the school and seeing that the kindergarten class’s door had a disproportionate number of snowballs stuck to it! It seemed several classrooms banded together to fire all of their snowballs at kindergarten. Even the school office is fair game and gets struck with paper snowballs during the duration of the “fight.” As you can imagine, my children really look forward to this game, and it provides plenty of motivation for them to clip and save Box Tops all year long.
Right now, selected General Mills products at Walmart have Bonus Box Tops on them too. I picked these bonus packs of cereal and fruit snacks up at Walmart recently. In addition to the 5 Box Tops in each, they came with Make-Your-Own-Minion crafts and Star Wars stickers. As soon as our family’s done enjoying and eating these, the Box Tops will be added to an envelope in our kitchen… ready for this winter’s snowball fight!
