As digital coupons continue to change the landscape of couponing, there’s a new player on the scene with ecoupons – SavingStar. SavingStar works in a similar way to ecoupons you might already be using. Simply visit their site, create a free account and attach your loyalty cards to that account. Then, click the ecoupons that you wish to load. These one-time ecoupons are available to use on any card that you’ve attached to your account.
Then, instead of the ecoupons coming off at the register, they’re deposited into your SavingStar account. When your account reaches a balance of $5 or more, you can “cash it out” in the form of a direct bank deposit, a Paypal deposit, or an Amazon gift card! You can also choose to donate your ecoupon balance to American Forests to help plant trees.
Here’s how it works:
SavingStar’s eCoupons work at over 100 chains nationwide (24,000 supermarkets and drugstores). Type in your zip code on the website to find stores near you. In my area, Jewel-Osco, CVS/Pharmacy and Hilander/Kroger are the only three I regularly shop at, but I’m looking forward to trying these out.
One question that’s been raised by readers in the Forum here on the blog is whether or not traditional, paper manufacturer coupons can be used with SavingStar ecoupons. Here’s SavingStar’s statement on that:
SavingStar eCoupons will work whether or not you combine them with other services’ coupons, but they are not intended to be used this way. Manufacturers typically have policies limiting use to 1 coupon per purchase, but it is up to each shopper to adhere to these policies.
SavingStar will be adding new ecoupons at the beginning of the month. Click here to sign up, attach your loyalty cards, and start saving!

At first I wasn’t sure if I liked the idea of my bill staying the same. But then I remembered…
Before I used Jill’s site, I was with the group that said, “you didn’t SAVE that much money. If you did, I want to see your savings account balance with that much in it.”
With these new ecoupons, you COULD deposit directly to a savings account. I suppose if there is a week we need to keep our OOP down, I could use regular mfr coupons; but if it doesn’t matter, I can use these new ones. Different, but neat!

I was surprized to see the some of the “coupons” were sold out. I wonder why they show them if I was never able to activate them?

So, will this work doubled up with a paper coupon at Hilander? They recently changed their registers and it beeps if an e coupon has been used not allowing a paper manufacturers coupon? Also any idea if it will let you double up how that will work with their mega event pricing now that the savings comes off each item and not as a lump sum at the end of your receipt? I guess I probably need to test it all out :)

Weren’t the e-Qs also manufacturers’ Qs?
Just wondering, not advocating either way.

What happens if you load a Kroger ecoupon and also have a Savingstar ecoupon for the same product? Does it pick one and ignore the other? If so, does it show preference to the Kroger ecoupon or to the highest valued one or what?
