SavingStar emailed Jewel-Osco shoppers today to let us know that the automatic redemption of SavingStar offers is ending in about three weeks. Jewel will then become a receipt-redemption store that requires you to scan your receipts to receive SavingStar credit.
I’m disappointed in this, because while I love coupons and discounts, I’ve never been a huge fan of scanning receipts. It’s tedious (especially if they’re long!) and it’s time-consuming. I liked having SavingStar’s discounts show up automatically after I shop.

Dear SavingStar Member,
Important Account Change:
Jewel-Osco The way you save at Jewel-Osco will soon change. Starting August 24, 2017, Jewel-Osco will transition from an “automatic” retailer (using a MyMixx number) and instead participate as a receipt-scanning retailer. This means that you will redeem SavingStar offers at all Jewel-Osco stores by submitting a picture of your paper receipt instead of linking SavingStar offers to your MyMixx number. Your SavingStar account balances and One or Many progress will stay the same during this transition.
All redemptions using your MyMixx number must be occur by August 24, 2017 (rewards will post to your account on or before September 30, 2017). Starting August 25, 2017, you will redeem offers by using the receipt scanning functionality on the iPhone or Android app or at SavingStar.com.

while i agree this is mostly a downgrade, some situational advantages:
– you forgot to enter MyMixx number at time of transaction (e.g. due to having no MyMixx-eligible purchases). i did this once with pears.
– you have both a MyMixx and a same or similar SavingStar clipped for a given item, but you only buy one of it, and don’t want both to trigger at a given time, since that might be construed as you trying to double-dip. reasons why i might clip both, then go on to buy only one are differing expiration dates, or coupon and credit descriptions implying a slightly different range of items, so i do the second clipping as a backup. i once had both a MyMixx and SavingStar activate for a single Annie’s yogurt, and while it was a bit awkward, there wasn’t anything i could do to control it. receipt uploading will let shoppers pick and choose.
dealing with the second by presenting a list of item checkboxes on the website/app before redeeming the transaction might’ve been a better solution.
