Always on the lookout for penny rulers and 10-cent boxes of crayons, Cataldo urges shoppers to scour the sales fliers and be willing to travel to multiple places to purchase items because one store might have a sale on markers and another on scissors.
If the goal is to save money, Cataldo advises people to avoid buying everything at one store. She said stores drive in customers with one-cent sale items only to charge full price or more for everything else.
Driving around to different stores in one day to take advantage of all the deals might not be the best option either.
Cataldo said she takes several weeks and stops at various stores only when she is in the area. Also by keeping a list of school supplies in her purse, she can pick up supplies that are on sale as she’s out running errands.
While facial issue and lunch supplies are staples for a coupon-clipper, Cataldo said manufacturers are starting to offer coupons on items such as pens and dry erase markers.
She added consumers should be willing to shop at stores that traditionally don’t sell school supplies. For instance, Menards was offering 70-page spiral notebooks and black or blue pens for the whopping price of free, after a mail-in rebate. So Cataldo purchased the 10-notebook limit.

Nice article on you Jill! I did a word search on the site for current deals for the week 8/5 school supplies but this is the only current listing (all the others were previous sales). Looking to shop for school supplies and was hoping to find the sales this week. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks – love your site! :-)
