Have you ever seen coupons like these?

The new 8/18 SmartSource insert has coupons for Wild Garden Hummus dip and snacks. They’ve got nice, long expiration dates — good until August 17th of 2014! But that’s about all they’ve got…

No “Manufacturer Coupon” wording. No terms of acceptance (“Limit one per purchase.”) NO statement about it being void if sold, copied, transferred or auctioned. And strangest of all – no mailing address or redemption information whatsoever for the retailer. I even flipped the page over to see if that information was on the back, but no – there’s an ad for cat food on the next page of the insert.

I’m looking at these and wondering if stores will even accept them..!

8/21 UPDATE: I spoke with a colleague today who works for one of the largest coupon clearinghouses in the country. He said that the barcode does not contain any redemption information. I asked what happens to this coupon if a store accepts it — “How does this get back to the manufacturer?” He said, “The short answer – it can’t.” He said that these coupons had been shared with several people around the company who all agreed that they were surprised the coupon was printed in the insert this way, and they suspected that this brand hasn’t had much experience issuing coupons before..!

I won’t be using this coupon for matchups, as I don’t want to hurt our stores by submitting coupons that they have no means of being reimbursed for.
