Oh, the wonderful world of Walgreens!
There are so many interesting ways to stack coupons and combine discounts at Walgreens, and I tend to get a lot of email and blog questions about some of them. So here’s an overview of different ways to save at Walgreens!
Store coupons
Like many stores, Walgreens will stack both a manufacturer’s coupon and a store coupon together. But Walgreens is especially fun to shop at because they will also stack their OWN coupons together.
There are a few places to find Walgreens coupons:
Walgreens weekly flyer (in the newspaper, or in the store)
Walgreens website and email list (often a good source of coupons like $5 off when you spend $20)
Walgreens supplemental coupon promotions (at times, a free coupon booklet with $50 worth of coupons inside available from the pharmacy, and a 99-cent coloring book with $20 worth of coupons inside.)
So, let’s say there was a coupon for Children’s Tylenol in the weekly flyer and in the EasySaver. You can use them both on the same item. Guess what – there’s one in the coloring book too, so now, in this example, we’d have 3 different store coupons to use on this one item, AND, we can also use a manufacturer’s coupon (from the inserts or the web) on the same item too.
Walgreens also offers Register Rewards, which are Catalina coupons that print at the end of your transaction when you’ve purchased a required number of items.
Walgreens’ registers handle Register Rewards as manufacturer’s coupons. You can use more than one RR per transaction, but you cannot have more manufacturer’s coupons than you have items – and RRs count as manufacturer’s coupons.
Example: Shampoo is on sale for $4.00 a bottle. I have two $2.00 off shampoo manufacturer’s coupons, and I also have a $4.00 Register Reward. Can I use all 3 of these to make my shampoo free?
You may think so, but the answer is no. The register will see this as 3 manufacturer’s coupons for 2 items. So, you can either save your RR for another time, or if you really want to use it up (perhaps it’s expiring soon) there is another way to help the register to accept it.
Add a “filler” item to your order. Any time there’s a holiday approaching, the 10-cent holiday pencils are cheap and good! Other items that are inexpensive and make good fillers are votive candles (17 cents) and caramels (found in a display at the register – 35 cents.) If you’re interested in the coloring book coupons, the 99-cent coloring book also makes a good filler! But what the filler item does is makes your order total 3 items – and then you can use your 3 coupons without a problem.

Jill, do you need to register or sign up for anything in order to obtain the coupon book from the pharmacy?
Also, you previously mentioned coupon wallets you purchased at Target (dollar zone). I’ve been unable to locate – can you describe what they look like. And by dollar zone you mean right at the front of the store when you walk in….right?

Is there a limit on Walgreens rebates?

I thought I was good, but Jill is my hero! I got my 2 Lindt bars at Wags for .49, but it wasn’t easy! I got a cashier who just REFUSED to use two $1 Wags coupons. So, I made her dig out my BOGOF coupon and give it back to me. Then, I walked around the store looking for help. I saw a girl in cosmetics stocking the shelves. I asked if she rang things and if she knew how to use a store coupon AND a mfg coupon. She did and I got my 2 bars for .49 cents! No problem! I don’t know how you find all this stuff, but we sure do appreciate you! Thank you!

Jill, I was wondering if you ever got a coupon policies for Walgreens? Lets say you have a BOGO, not their Ad BOGO. My BIG “W” manager will not take a coupon on the FREE one. They say your getting it free. I know you said you pay taxes. Just wondering if you have a LINK to the policies. Thanks in advance for all your work!!

If the plan is to buy two identical items to get two Register Reward coupons then do the items need to be rung up separately or will two be dispensed for the single sale? I had an issue with the St Ives soap as only one printed. The cashier had to dummy then void a sale to get my second one to print. Just curious if I should always do them as separate purchases?
Thanks!

Thanks for all of the great advice. I was able to use some of my recent RRs to grab some stocking stuffers for my daughter. She is in love with the Smencil(sp??) pencils, and a store near my home is clearencing them out for .75. Using my recent RRs, I was able to grab one in each color/scent for free. I will have a very happy 4-year old!!!

You mentioned the availability of this book. But when I’ve gone to several pharmacies and ask, they did not know what I was talking about. Looked around where they usually hang other info brochures and didn’t see them either. Could it be a one time booklet, seasonal or can only find them at the beginning of the month. Thanks for all your help Jill. I’ve been doing private sessions of the ins and outs of super couponing with relatives. They still can’t get over it but they are not sure if they have the time to do the homework. Well their loss.

Last night I got a perscription for my daughter late at the Walgreens in Huntley at the Drive thru Window. I noticed a sign that said Generics for less than 1 a week, then it said ask for info. I asked the kind lady for info and she had information about the Perscription Savings Club and guess what came with that. The Coupon Booklet of Savings that your looking for. I dont think they give it separately its included in the information packet about the Perscription savings Club. Hope that helps you

OK, you REALLY have to be looking for these to find them. I have been to the same Wags about 7 times in the past two weeks and missed them every time…until tonight. I will do my best to direct you to them! This is at the Wags on Madison St. in Oak Park. If you go down the toy aisle, toward the back of the store, the coloring book section is on your right. If you look at the coloring books, to your left, at eye level there is a flimsy looking blue coloring book holder hanging from the edge of another shelf. Voila! Wags coloring books with coupons! There were about 20 or so there when I saw them this evening.
*FYI*
I did go to 2 other Wags today and did not see them. Lyons Wags at 1st & Ogden and Oak Park Wags at Ridgeland & Roosevelt.

There is an EasySaver coupon for Extra gum- 3/.99. Can I combine this with a B1G1 free coupon? If I can, would I give them the B1G1 coupon first? Thanks!

Wasn’t there a time when Dominicks and Walgreens were part of the same company like Jewel and Osco? When did this change? I’m wondering because while Walgreens stacks coupons and is a great place to find deals, Dominicks is its polar opposite that many bloggers here seem to avoid – with the possible exception of a good Pop Tart or juice box sale.
What gives?

I went last week and bought the 5/$15 Pepsi deal and got a $5 in-store coupon. I was going to use it with the new spend $20 and get $10 register reward this week, but if your total goes below $20 AFTER coupons, the $10 RR won’t print. I made them void it out and ring it back up without using my $5 RR to pay! I don’t think that every Walgreens is like this!

I’ve seen some posts here on using Register Reward coupons. My Walgreens says I cannot use a Register Rewards coupon on a sales whereby I am expecting to get a different register reward coupon. For example, I took advantage of the the $10 with $20 Pepsi/Frito Lay deal last week so I have 3 $10 RRs that need to be used this week. When I reviewed this week’s ad, I see some merchandise that I wanted to use with my $30 RRs and get another RR. The manager and the front-end clerk both said the new ones won’t print if I use a RR coupon for the sale. Do we know that to be true? Has it worked for others and maybe they are not sure or just telling me that to stay away from another promo?
Thanks, MO

I am new to the rebates at Wags and am trying to do my windex (SC Johnson) rebate online. The form only let’s me check off $2 dollars worth but the rebate is up to $4 and I bought 4 products. Will it automatically know how much I spent based on my receipt #? Or did I need to do two separate transactions and enter two separate receipt #s? If anyone can clarify I would appreciate. I checked the FAQs and catalog and didn’t find any information.
Thanks!

I have a question about the rebates. If I use a manufacturers coupon to lower the price at checkout, does that also lower my rebate amount? If so I’d just wait to use the coupon at another time. Thanks for all your help!

I heard that this is the last month for the Easy Saver Catalog. I don’t even remember where I heard it, but does anyone know if its true? If it is, is Walgreens going to a different system or are we just back to basics? I will miss this program, it is so easy to use!!!!!

I see you are waiting for a new coupon policy from Walgreens, but what is their current policy on accepting catalina(manufacturers coupon) printed from another store? I was just at Wags and tried to use my $10 catalina coupon from Jewel and the cashier had to call the manager over. He said that the coupon has Jewels name on it and it could only be used at Jewel. I argued with him saying it was a manufacturers coupon, but he insisted. I came home hoping to print their coupon policy, but couldn’t find one. I am irritated they don’t know how to read coupons. I told the cashier to scan it and it would go through, but she wouldn’t.

Does anyone know if the Walgreens 99 cent coloring book and the coupon book that was available at the pharmacy is still available? If so, do you have to request it, or is it on display somewhere?

Do coupons detract from the total you are making to get register rewards? On the Spend $25 get $10 back that’s running now, I know I go by the sale price right? Do I have to figure in what my manufactures coupon will take off? For example: if I have 2/$5.00 items, I have to buy 10 items. But if I have $1.00 off coupons for each does that take my total down to $15 and have to add items? They told me that today, but it didn’t sound right, so I thought I better check, but can’t find the answer anywhere.
Is the total the Sale Price, Before or after manufacture coupons?

In the last diaper promotion, I tried serveral Walgreens, no one had the coloring book or even heard of it. I finally found one Walgreens who had one book. The book I found was located in the childrens books section.
Has anyone else had problems finding them?

On Saturday, 3/14/09, I attempted to buy the Garnier Fructis Shampoo and Styler. Sale $2.99, REbate Book coupon $2, Manufacturer’s coupon $1 off shampoo, $1 off Stylers. A cashier told me that I could use the two manufacturer’s coupons, if I bought three Garnier products. I thanked her and went to look for a manager. The assistant manager told me, “Yes, I know how to key in the manufacturer’s coupon to make it .99 cents instead of dollar, but I’m not going to.” I told him that it was walgreen’s policy to accept both, and invited him to call 1-800-walgreens. He told me, “No,” and walked away. It was the Walgreens on Lincoln and Western and Lawrence in Chicago. So, anyway to combat that?

I was in Walgreens last night to pick up my May Easy Saver catalog. It has been discontinued!

I think Walgreens is changing their policies now because you can’t use an in store coupon with a manufacture coupon. They have also done away with their cards. At least that is the case here in Idaho.
