Today’s Chicago Tribune has an article discussing the counterfeit coupon usage on Extreme Couponing, with a statement from Matt Sharp, executive producer of the show:
This minority of aggressive coupon users has been thrust into the spotlight by the TLC reality show Extreme Couponing, where a shopper may redeem hundreds of coupons on one shopping trip and bring home cartloads of merchandise for nearly free. The show has caused alarm for manufacturers and retailers, said Bud Miller, executive director of the manufacturer’s group Coupon Information Corp.
Miller alleges that shoppers on Extreme Couponing have gone beyond bad manners to outright fraud. Regarding one episode, the CIC said in a press release that it confirmed that a minor had “used counterfeit coupons on the show.”
Matt Sharp, executive producer of TLC’s Extreme Couponing, said in an email that the show, which begins its third season in May, does not plan any changes despite the allegations.
“Extreme Couponing continues to document real people and their extreme couponing methods. It’s up to each of the couponers to follow store policy and coupon rules,” Sharp wrote.

You know how some reality shows go back to people a year or so later to do a follow up? Wouldn’t it be great to see a follow up show on the one’s who are caught using fake coupons?
Let’s have the cameras rolling when they are arrested. It would be a great segment to showcase how all their “savings” are washed away by the legal fees and reimbursements they would have to pay back!
