Take a look at these two nine-ounce bottles of Dawn Ultra dish detergent. The bottle on the left, which is Lemon Burst scent, is marked “Trial Size” on the label. The bottle on the right? Also exactly nine ounces. It’s Pomegranate Splash scent, and it’s not Trial Size.
What’s going on here? How can one nine-ounce Dawn be trial size, but another (identically-sized) bottle not be trial size? I was so amused by the trial size Dawn that I bought it. (Yes, without a coupon!)
Next, I reached out to a representative from Procter & Gamble, who confirmed that indeed, some scents and varieties of 9-ounce Dawn are trial sizes, while others are not. I spotted the Lemon Burst Dawn at Dollar Tree, so I asked if perhaps this was a special variety created specifically for the dollar store market. P&G confirmed that they do not create specific products for dollar stores.
So, which varieties of 9-ounce Dawn are trial sizes, and which ones aren’t? P&G has kindly provided a list of SKUs for me to post:

Interesting, I thought the only ones trial sized (at Dollar Tree anyway) were the Platinum ones. I will have to keep checking now. Thanks for the list.

This is almost ridiculous, how is the average consumer supposed to know the difference? That “trial size” banner isn’t that big and someone shopping with kids or in a hurry might miss it. People are just going to grab a scent or color that they want and go to the checkout and hand their coupons over. Really P&G? They absolutely could have made them different sizes. It’s almost like they WANT people to commit coupon fraud. Ugh.

How much is a dawn at dollar tree? Or is that a stupid question. Hahahaha
Coupon Maven says
It is, indeed, one dollar :)

I actually wrote to them when the containers went down to 10oz size I was so disgusted with the frequent downsizing of this product. I was basically told that’s how it is. I’m boycotting Dawn and asking others to do it as well. At least the other detergents still offer larger sizes and don’t price gauge.
This also is detrimental to the economy. When sizes go down so much but the price remains the same it looks like there really hasn’t been any inflation because the census looks at price changes. How ever I think we can agree that inflation has hit Dawn detergent hard. Heck , didn’t just hit hard, beat the crap out of it.
Thank you for letting me vent.🤪
