This crazy sale is definitely an exception to shopping just once a week..! Jewel’s General Mills $25/$10 Catalina sale is in full swing. Here’s my youngest in the midst of “unpacking.”
Nine rounds later… Grand total out of pocket, including tax: $13.08.
Here’s a breakdown…
22 Betty Crocker brownie mixes
4 Betty Crocker cake mixes
4 Betty Crocker frostings
11 Cheerios (multigrain)
2 Cheerios (yellow)
4 Chex Mix
6 Cinnamon Toast Crunch
14 Green Giant frozen boxed vegetables
15 Hamburger Helper mixes
7 Pillsbury Simply chocolate chip cookie dough
6 Pillsbury Simply Moments refrigerated caramel brownies
2 Totino’s pizza rolls
4 Yoplait GoGurt
4 Yoplait Delights
7 Yoplait Splitz
I started with a $10 ConAgra Catalina and still have $10 in GM Cats to continue… later. (And I earned nine free cookware stamps! At this rate, I may actually get that Dutch Oven yet!)
We cleared no shelves (one benefit to shopping early in the sale!) and I dropped off a nice “cheat sheet” for my Jewel so they know what the big movers will be this time around and can order more now..!
All in all, a pretty good “research” trip for this week’s Deals writeup! If you can’t wait for Monday and have been following me for a while now… you’ve got all the tools you need to start putting your own deals together. :)

I just love the look on your son’s face. He looks like he is in grocery heaven — there must be some of his favorite items in this mix!!!

Nice haul, Jill (not to mention the SWEET picture!) Looks like you’re pretty well stocked for the baking season with all of those mixes! :)
(Note: Has anyone else had problems with the pictures covering up the ‘body’ of the posts?)

That picture is adorable!!!
And thanks to you, Jill I was able to figure out many, many deals myself, I rolled that CAT multiple times, with less than $1.00 oop. I bought cheerios, cake mix and frosting, soup, hamburger helper, green giant veggies, and brownies. The only deal I can’t figure out is the double dip on NV Granola Bars??
Thanks again for being such a great teacher :)

I really wish I could figure these deals out BEFORE Jill posts them, because everytime I get to the store the shelves are cleared out. I guess I need help figuring out the deal myself, I try I really do but they never come out that good. If someone is willing to help me I’m in dire need of cereal and frozen veggies.

Are you doing these deals black belt style? That add says $25 after all manufacture coupons.

Hi Jill,
Chris here, – took your 2nd class at OakBrook Lib last night (I was asking the Wags RR clarifiction before class and also talked to you after about recieiving coupons for new products). Thanks for the great class, I’m such a coupon nerd I couldn’t turn my brain off to sleep last night, anyone relate? Your son is so cute, and I trust that handsome outfit was 1.99 or less per piece? haha
I learned so much from BOTH classes and would recommend everyone invest the hour and everyone drive to where ever you classes are to truley “get it”. You would be so proud I figured out the deals even before you post the BB – although I loved the pictures from last time!

Armed with a fist full of coupons and a warrior attitude, I went to Jewel. My Fox Lake store had everything in stock. I got:
4 PB Crescent tubes
2 PB Sweet Memories
2 PB folded Pie Crusts
2 PB sweet roll tubes
One crust peelie for $1 off 2 crusts, one crust peelie for $1 off 2 crescents
One $.40 Q 2 crescent
Two $1 Q on Sweet Memory
Paid with 3 $5 Cats from GM, and $3.49 cash. Received 2 more $5 Cats after paying.
Yes, I could have done even better by buying less to get the new GM cat, but as a new Black Belter, I would rather go a bit over than under.
GB777 says
Yes, I have the same thing.
I always get that.
My son does not, so I just deal with it.

I just want to know Jill how you stay so slim
when you are buying all those brownie mixes??!!

I did a strictly Totinos deal. Bought 11, used $2.85 in coupons, and ended with Totinos for .17 cents a box and a $10.00 catalina. What made it even better was the additional catalina for $3.00 off my next purchase of meat, and an addtional catalina for $5.00 off my next purchase of $50.00. My husband’s response was “When do you ever spend $50.00 at Jewel?”. What made it even sweeter is that on some of the Totino’s boxes there is a coupon $1/2 for GM fruit snacks. Can’t wait to go back for those! Thanks Jill for helping me to become a smart shopper!

Transaction #1:
4 Betty Crocker frosting, $6.00.
4 Betty Crocker cake mix, $4.00.
3 Golden Grahams, $6.00.
1 can Progresso soup, $1.00.
= $17.00. Use four $.75 off cake mix + frosting from the 10/3 GM and $1.00/3 Golden Grahams from the 10/3 GM… at $13.23 with $13.00 back.
Transaction #2
13 Progresso Vegetable classics. Used 3 1.00/4 10/3 GM
Paid $10.23 Got $10 back
Then, I did this a third and fourth time and no catalinas came out!! Turns out the checker (new one this time then the one from my previous two transactions) punched in GROCERY like Jill mentioned in her class which brought my total under the necessary $25.
Thankfully, I very nicely asked the original checker who was now at the customer service desk for assistance and he kindly re-scanned the items and gave me the 4 $5 OYNO that I should have gotten from the last two transactions. BEWARE!!!!
faboolover says
So, is this CAT rolling? You can buy the brownies, get the CAT, then use the CAT on your next order, say for Totinos? And you still get a new one each time?

Jill!
I’m so excited!! Many of the items that Jewel has on their GM catalina sale aren’t items that we eat – I don’t use canned soups or baking mixes – but… there is a need for these items at local Ronald McDonald Houses (a favorite charity of mine), and I wanted to get into the game. So, the challenge was how much I could get to donate to the Ronald Houses for my money. I set out early this morning, coupons in hand, and found my local Jewel shelves well stocked. 5 rounds and my trunk was full! I’m keeping 3 Sweet Moments and 4 boxes of cereal (the kids were eyeing them). The Ronald Houses will be getting: 6 boxes of cereal, 12 boxes of brownie mix, 36 cans of soup, 13 cans of frosting, and 8 cake mixes!! And I did not clear any shelves! What did I spend for everything? $3.54!!! I know they’ll be happy to add these items to their pantry. Also, they are asking for any stickers for pots and pans that people aren’t going to use – they’re getting mine. They’ll use them to buy pans for their houses. Thank you Jill! I love being able to help the RMHC – couldn’t have done it without the tools you’ve taught me.

So I have a question….when you use coupons do they count towards the sale price or the preffered price which is the actual price you pay correct??

I only went through the line twice and the third time no $10 came out for me. Why? The manager said there was a limit on how many times you can go through in one day. The strange thing is that I only used my own preferred card the last time. How does it know? The credit card?
How can we get around this?
kensbaby93 says
Went without kids, so I tried to do all my deals today so I dont have to go back =)
FYI…no shelf clearing…shelves were still nicely stocked and I alerted my store manager as to what items will be hot this week, he is going to do his best to keep everything stocked.
8…yeah thats right…8 transactions at Jewel with NO KIDS!!!!
52 cans of soup
22 boxes of brownies
8 cake mixes
8 frosting
8 fruit snacks
1 gallon of milk
paid $1.41 plus tax!!! ( about $97.66 before any coupons)
80% of this is heading to the food pantry( my sons cub scout troop will be collecting food for a food drive soon)…keeping fruit snacks a few cake mixes , maybe a frosting or 2 and possible a few brownines…depending on how many I have downstairs all ready. Feels SO GOOD to be able to help others =)
SahmShopper says
Did my first purchases to give to the food pantry and even took 3 kids (ages 1, 2 and 4) to help them to pick out food to give to others – I kept having to explain they could only take the items with the special tags LOL. : )
6 boxes of cereal, 27 cans of soup, 7 boxes of brownies, 4 cans of frosting for $.17 after taxes. Feels good to give.
FYI, Crystal Lake and Algonquin are prepared. I had to laugh a little at the piles of GM around Crystal Lake! We’ll see how long that lasts after Jill posts her deals this week. Glad I got a jump on things this week so I wouldn’t miss out!

This has been my FAVORITE catalina sale this past year. The freezers are fully stocked with frozen vegies (and a couple totino’s for football munchies). The Sweet Moments are amazing, too! Those were the only thing I “cleared” the shelf because there were only five left on the shelf to begin with.
This was SO easy to black belt and stock up!!
One warning.. ALL of the shelf tag prices at my store were wrong. Make sure you check the prices at the checker or add the “saved amount” to the listed preferred price to get the one to use for your BB.
emd1168 says
If I have met the $25 by using the reg or sale price and than check out with coupons now my $25 has gone done , will the catalina still print or do I have to add more to my cart to get pass the $25 to include coupons I am using. For example I have say $26.00 in items using the sale price, I than use $5.00 in coupons now it drops my total to $21. Will the catalina still print for Spend $25 get $10 back?
Crissyv21 says
So is it true that you use the reg price not the advertised or sale price to get to the 25.00?
Example: I buy 25 totinos pizzas b/c I think I have to in order to get to 25.00 using the advertised price of 1.00 each, yes I will get my catalina but I’m buying way more then I need to, to actually get the catalina. Jills scenario says to buy 13 totinos pizzas, is this because your taking the reg price into account and not the advertised price. I was extremely confused with this at first but think I have it down. After the items are subtotaled say 13 totinos pizzas reg price 2.00 =26.00 (catalina!!) then my preferred card comes off to make them the advertised price of 1.00, so my total comes to 13.00. I get my 10.00 catalina and pay only 3.00 out of pocket(if I use a catalina from b/4)or pay 13.00 out of pocket, get the 10.00 catalina to roll into another great deal and pay almost nothing for the next transaction and do over and over and over again!!
Am I right on this scenario b/c I never saw on this site where it states the reg price is what is calculated to get to the 25 a cashier told me but I just want to make sure.
Thanks

Hello. I really got into these last two weeks at Jewel and so appreciate your guidance and sharing your knowledge of grocery shopping. I would love to drop off a list to my local Jewel (Bartlett) to give them a heads up too of the items that will be big sellers. Do you share your suggestions of big sellers online or do I try to come up with my own list? I’ve only gotten comfortable with black belt shopping this past GM deal… Thanks again!
