That’s the question CouponNetwork.com‘s been asking since they rolled out their new video-rewards and Facebook-rewards coupons. As always, the site offers great printable coupons, but if you look at some of the offers, you’ll notice that you have the option to either print the coupon at its listed value, or either watch a short video about the product or “Like” it on Facebook to be rewarded with a higher dollar-value coupon:

From a marketing standpoint, I can see why marketers would love this concept. It’s a very targeted form of advertising, and they’re guaranteed that the customer views an ad for their product. In turn, the customer receives an added benefit — no one’s forcing them to watch the video or “Like” the product, but if they choose to, they’ll save even more money on a product that they may now be even more inclined to buy.
I have to admit, I like the video rewards. I don’t know if I would do this for every coupon I print, if that were an option — but for coupons like the Honey Bunches of Oats, where it’s a nice high-value offer for a product I like and will buy anyway during a sale? I’m in. As far as the Facebook Likes, I’m a little less inclined to do it. I’m not sure I want to announce to the world that I like Balance Bars just to get a better coupon. What do you think?

I noticed those on Coupon Network and I like the idea as well. It is my choice to watch or not and it is a very short video so why not and then the coupon is higher value. I also agree that I do not want to have to do this for every coupon I print.
I also like it for products that I haven’t tried yet because perhaps there is a coupon for a product I’ve never heard of and may not even know what it is. The video is a great introduction and then I can make a more informed decision about whether to print it or not.

I finally joined facebook to get the coupons! However, I don’t use it for anything else. My real friends don’t even realize I have an account. I’m with you, Jill, on the videos. If I want the product, and it’s a high-value offer, I’ll play the video. That’s often when I get up from the computer, to do something else briefly.

Watching a video would be fine by me, since I’m interested in the product anyway. But doing a “Like” on FB for individual products? NO WAY. I like to keep my FB account private to friends only and am very picky about what type of non-friend I Like/Follow.

Yes, I would watch a video for a higher value coupon. As far as FB, I only “like” it if it is a good value coupon. like the 2.00 off Tide, for example, or if my kids really like the product, like der Wafflebakkers (those frozen pancakes)
So, yeah, I’m in!

I set up a “not real” fb account just for couponing!

I don’t mind watching an occasional video to get a higher-value coupon on Facebook. I wouldn’t want to watch a video for EVERY coupon. However, I do not ever click on anything in Facebook where I have to send a message to a certain number of FB friends in order to receive a higher-value coupon. I don’t care how high value the coupon is–I won’t do that.

I would watch the video but would not be interested in creating a FB account just for coupons.

I certainly wouldn’t do this for a coupon that was 10 cents more. But I would probably watch up to a one-minute commercial for a high value ($1.50 or higher) coupon on a product I use.

… that’s why they invented browser tabs.

I’ve ‘liked’ what seams a lot of products and now I get updates on them all and it just fills up my page. I like the fake FB page idea though! If all I had to do watch the video then yes, but not have to answer questions afterwards like a survey.

I will like any company or product on Facebook for a great coupon. I’d rather do that than watch a video. “Liking” a product on FB is fast, easy and takes only seconds. Blocking that same company from my FB page and preventing my friends from ever seeing it is just as fast and easy after I’ve printed the coupon. Many videos are set so the company knows if you go to another tab on your computer – having to sit and watch a video is a waste of time to me, I can see commercials on tv.

account is to print coupons. I realized this over a year ago when the high value coupons were only offered through Facebook. I wouldn’t do Facebook in any other manner, so don’t care what my page looks like. I imagine it has ads galore! Same with a video- I will play it (notice I didn’t say “watch it”) for a high $ amount.

I’ve done the facebook coupons so many times and been disappointed with the teeniest, tiniest itsy bitsy little samples that come weeks on end later in the mail.
Sometimes it’s just not worth the “liking” as I usually don’t like the stingy samples given away. (Especially when you’re picturing a cute little perfume bottle and you get a flat barely there cardboard sample). But what really bothers me is that when you “like” a product on facebook and let them access all your information only to find “WE’RE SORRY …. WE’VE RUN OUT OF SAMPLES”. I’d rather do the video, anyway because I think they’re sometimes funny.
