I just got back from a morning Meijer run — there are so many great sales and deals going right now that I couldn’t wait to hit the store! (As you can see from the photo above, I also couldn’t even wait to take everything out of my vehicle before blogging about it for you!) In addition to all of the deals in this week’s writeup, you also get a $5 Meijer Catalina for buying $30 worth of products. Before I detail my trip reports, here are some things I’ve learned…
- Coupons do not affect you getting the $5 Catalina that triggers on a $30 purchase. I had three trips that came under $30 after coupons and still got the Catalina. I wasn’t sure about this, so I overspent on my first couple of transactions.
- Several cashiers told me that the $5 Catalina from the $30 does not roll. Don’t use it for a future $30 transaction, or you won’t get another. However, I did successfully roll the $10 Johnson & Johnson’s and $5 P&G Catalinas into future $30-pre-coupon trips and still got a $5 Catalina for spending $30.
Here’s what I bought this morning.
(And yes, I should have split my first trip into two to get another $5 Catalina, but… oh well. When I got to the store, I ran into other blog readers buying razors and Band-Aids, and I thought I’d better just get them while they were on the shelf. I think those are going to be the hot movers this week with all of the deals on them…)
Trip #1:
Four Schick Slim Twin men’s 15-pack disposable razors: $7.19 each, $28.76
Eight boxes of Band-Aids: $1.49 each, $11.92
One Johnson & Johnson First Aid bag: $3.74
Four 1-liter Listerines: $4.99 each, $19.96
Four Tampax tampons: $6.59 each, $26.36
I got $10 in instant savings for buying the Schick
I used four $4 Schick coupons
I used four $1.50-off-2 Band-Aid coupons
I used a peelie for the free First Aid bag when you buy three Band-Aids (found on product)
I used four $1 Listerine coupons
I used four $2 Tampax coupons and two $1 Target Tampax coupons
I also used a .75 Dole pineapple Catalina from last week’s Meijer trip
With tax, I paid $45.86 and got a $10 J&J Catalina, a $5 P&G Catalina, and a $5 Meijer Catalina. I will submit for the $10 J&J rebate too, so this $45.86 run will be down to $15.86.
Trip #2:
Ten packages of Stayfree pads: $2.89 each, $28.90
Four Natural Instincts haircolor: $5.99 each, $23.96
I got $10 in instant savnigs for buying the Stayfree
I used five $3-off-2 Stayfree coupons
I used two $5-off-2 Clairol haircolor coupons
With tax, I paid $21.07 and got a $5 P&G Catalina and a $5 Meijer Catalina. (I kind of experimented here to see if a post-coupon total below $30 would still trigger the Meijer $5 Catalina. It did.)
At this point, here are the Catalinas I’d accrued! Now I decided to try to use some of them in subsequent transactions.
Trip #3:
Eight boxes of Honey Maid Graham crackers: $1.98 each, $15.84 after Buy 8 savings
Eight boxes of Nilla Wafers: $1.98 each, $15.84 after Buy 8 savings
I used four $1-off-2 Honey maid coupons
I used four .75-off-2 Nabisco coupons
I used the $10 J&J Catalina from the first transaction
I used the $5 P&G Catalina from the first transaction
With tax, I paid $9.97 and got a $5 Meijer Catalina.
Trip #4:
Ten Dole fruit cup 4-packs: $1.99 each, $19.90
Eight Chips Ahoy cookies: $1.59 each, $12.72 (Hey, don’t judge. We Cataldos like our cookie deals!)
I used four .60-off-2 Dole coupons (they are limit 4)
I used four .75-off-2 Nabisco coupons
I used the $5 P&G Catalina from the second transaction
With tax, I paid $22.10 and got a $5 Meijer Catalina.
My total out-of-pocket today was $99. I still have four $5 Meijer Catalinas which I’ll use on future trips (after this great sale ends, that is!) With the $10 J&J rebate I’ll get back, I will be down to $69 for everything I bought today — again, after all deals.
Not counting the $10 Schick and $8 Nabisco instant savings deals or the Catalinas I both received today and rolled today, I used $75.89 in coupons!
For some of these deals, I lucked out to have more coupons than I usually get with my papers each week, especially on the Nabisco. The week those coupons ran in the paper lined up with a week I was traveling. Any time I stay in a hotel on a Sunday, I go down to the front desk around 10pm or so and ask if I can have any extra complimentary newspapers that are left from the day. Those inserts happened to line up with a trip I took, and I scored a few extra copies of the paper from the hotel. This translated into many bargain treats for the Cataldo kids.
The $5 Meijer Catalinas expire 8/13/15.

Is the $5 OYNO Catalina that you earned when you spent $30, a $5 off a $5 purchase or off of a $30 future purchase
Thanks
Also be sure to check out there clearance apparel and shoes, they take an extra 25%. I was able to get a few deals last weekend and my mom just informed me that the extra discount is still going on.

It’s a straight-up $5 off $5! :)

Thanks for the reply, I will be visiting me my mom and there’s a Meijer right by her so I’m ready to get in on some good sales and stock up.
Do you happen to know if they calculate the $ amount before the buy 8 save $8 instantly. I just was trying to put some scenarios together and was wondering which price to use to hit $30
Thanks in advance

That I don’t know — I figured all of my Buy 8 things on the AFTER-8 savings. I would guess that it knows that’s a store discount and will figure on the price you actually pay. If you want to TRY and let us know what happens, go for it :)
I just went back today to get milk and a few other things (cheap Johnsonville brats!) — I noticed the Febreze fabric refresher is shelf-tagged as part of the $25/$5 P&G Catalina too, which wasn’t shown in the ad.
susieqs2 says
It is before the instant savings and here is a link to someone who posted on Meijermadness.com a scenario and he used the prices before the buy 8 save $8 instant savings.
Happy shopping everyone :)

I split my grocery purchases into a couple of $30 orders this week too, so we could take advantage of the $5 catalina. And with the MPerks rewards also, this ends up being a great deal!

My daughter purchase a piece of furniture yesterday for $29.99, and of course the Cat didn’t print because of a penny. Do you know if I go to customer service they will give me the $5.00 cat for asking. Anyone have experience with this?

At Meijer (and nearly every other store), you MUST hit $30 or you won’t get the Catalina. (CVS is the only store that gives you the “pennies-off” benefit, which of course we love.)
They will likely not give it to her. What I would do is take the receipt to the counter and ask if she could return/rebuy the same piece of furniture, plus one item (pack of gum? One banana?) Anything to get her over the $30 mark. See what they say.

Free Suave lotion at Meijer, no coupons needed. I bought two of the Suave lotions that are part of the buy 8 save $8 instantly and to my surprise a $3 OYNO Catalina printed out. The lotions are $1.49 the buy 8 save $8 mix and match sale.

I went today and did not realize that the Schick/Stayfree deal was an instant savings. I bought $26.06 in qualifying products and other random groceries to get my total to $30.74. After coupons and a random $1 that came off for mperks, I paid $10.37 and still received the $5 CAT. The instant savings did count toward the $30, so maybe the $8 off 8 would also not affect it. It felt like the good old days at Jewel!

Oh, that’s awesome! So at least for the Schick/Stayfree, we could all be doing some GREAT deals this week! Thank you for (perhaps inadvertently) testing it out! :)

Same here did two transactions of stayfree/Schick and it used the pre- instant saving price, however for the buy 8 save $8 I went off the final price of the item. I thought that on it automatically reduced each item to its sale price when you bought 8 where as the other deals were $10 instant coupon.
Trans 1: 10 stayfree for 28.90 plus I added a pair of girls cotton tights on clearance for $1.24, subtotal $30.14. The $10 instant savings came off making it $20.14 + tax, I used 5 $3 stayfree coupons to drop my total to $5.14 + tax and I too earned the $5 Catalina.
Trans 2: 2 Schick hydro 3 refills ( 4+1 bonus pack) $9.99, 1 Schick extreme disposable 4 pack $6.29, 2 Philadelphia cream cheese 10 oz tubs ( bonus size) $1.99 each. Subtotal was $30.24 minus $10 instant savings, minus $12 in Schick coupons, minus $1 off two cream cheese( a peelie coupon from previous purchase). I paid $7.24 + tax and I also earned the $5 OYNO Catalina.

Were you able to stack the target store coupon with the manufacturer coupon? Last time I tried that at meijer they told me they had “just had a meeting” about stacking and wouldn’t do it. At the customer service counter they told me that they consider a competetor coupon to be a manufacturer coupon so you can’t use 2 coupons for one item. I did look at the coupon policy online and it didn’t really seem clear to me about stacking.

A little added surprise. When you use the $5.00 catalina you received for spending $30.00, you will receive two catalinas. One for $2.00 off produce and one for $2.00 off dairy.
