6/24/15 UPDATE: Reader Lisa did something much simpler (which didn’t even occur to me!) She successfully registered the phone number she uses for MyMixx as her Jewel card number within Kellogg’s Family Rewards.
A few weeks ago I blogged about changes to Kellogg’s Family Rewards points. Kellogg’s is phasing out the on-package codes in favor of linking your store’s loyalty card to the KFR system. In Chicagoland, participating stores with loyalty cards are Jewel-Osco, Mariano’s, Schnucks, Piggly Wiggly, Kmart and Peapod. Walgreens and CVS are NOT listed as participating with loyalty cards.
(If you shop at a store without a linkable card, you’ll now need to upload an image of your receipt to Kellogg’s Family Rewards in order to get credit for your purchases.)
Kellogg’s site says it will still allow you to enter codes from packages, but it doesn’t specify for how long.
I was able to add my (old) Jewel-Osco card to Kellogg’s Family Rewards, and I was curious to see if the card would still be supported as Jewel “officially” phased their cards out awhile back:
Last Friday, I bought some Kellogg’s products at Jewel and had the cashier scan my Preferred card at the checkout to see what would happen. Today, the Kelloggs Family Rewards points posted to my account:
Again, to clarify, the points were added solely from linking and scanning my Jewel Preferred card at the checkout — not from uploading a receipt. So, we now know that this works! However, there’s a caveat (isn’t there always..?)
After I had the cashier scan my Jewel card, I then tried to enter my MyMixx phone number at checkout, but the register wasn’t taking it. I had the cashier try to manually enter my phone number, but again, the register wasn’t accepting it. The cashier was able to type it in, but she said “nothing happened.” I had bought other items in my shopping trip, including two clearance pints of Mitchell’s ice cream. I had loaded a $1.25-off-2 MyMixx ecoupon for the Mitchell’s, but the register did not take it off.
I’m guessing that scanning my old Preferred card took priority over MyMixx to the register. So, I did get my Kellogg’s points, but I wasn’t able to use my MyMixx ecoupon in the same transaction. This is definitely something to keep in mind if you are using an old Jewel card to accrue Kellogg’s points AND buying MyMixx items in the same transaction. I’m going to “experiment” again soon and enter my MyMixx number first, then have the cashier scan my Jewel card and see what happens both with my Kellogg’s points and MyMixx ecoupons.
Also worth noting: All of the boxes of Kellogg’s I purchased have KFR codes inside the packaging too, so at least in the interim, it appears you’ll be able to both get points for buying items with an attached loyalty card or uploaded receipt, then still manually enter the package codes. You will WANT to do this too if you have any product packaging featuring special offers. Some of the cereals I purchased had “Win a Disney Parks vacation” and “6 Codes = 1 Movie Ticket” promotions on them, and neither of these special offers were credited automatically simply by buying the cereal at Jewel with my Preferred card. Once I manually added the codes from inside the boxes, the credits for the Disney trip entry and movie ticket codes appeared.
Lastly, we have some new KFR codes for bonus points, which you still enter the “old” way:
KFRB-ONUS-4MEM-BERS: 100 points
SITB-ACKA-NDUN-WIND: 25 points
POPT-ARTS-AVEN-GERS: 20 points

Just an FYI – I threw out my Jewel Preferred card awhile back so I couldn’t use that to link to my KFR account. Instead, I used my MyMixx number and it worked. Thanks for the bonus points!

Lisa, that’s great to know – I hadn’t even thought to use my MyMixx number (which is just my phone #) to register with KFR. It’s good to know that works — I’m going to try it and hopefully eliminate the issues I had using my old card (& losing MyMixx.)
