Grocery Deals
First off, here’s a great bottled water deal! Ice Mountain Aquapods 8-packs are on sale for $1. Buy 2 and use the $1.50-off-2 coupon from the 8/29 RP insert. You’ll pay .50 for 2, or a quarter per 8-pack! (And, an aside to my Jewel store managers reading this… Aquapods will FLY this week. Keep those shelves filled as often as possible!) This sale runs through 9/5.
If your store is out, don’t worry — get rainchecks, because the deal will actually get better if your store’s out of stock. Beginning 9/6 (the day this sale ends) there’s a Catalina on Ice Mountain Aquapods too! Buy 2 Ice Mountain Brand Natural 8 oz. 8- or 12-Pack or Aquapod 11 oz. 8- or 24-Packs and get a $1.50 Catalina. With coupons, these will be moneymakers!
(Incidentally, any time I blog bottled water deals, I receive some “hate mail” from readers stating that I should only encourage people to fill reusable bottles and not buy water. As with any deal, I encourage you to buy only what you’ll use or find beneficial and pass on what you won’t. I rarely, if ever, buy bottled water… unless it’s free or ridiculously cheap with coupons, as this is!)
Here’s a deal on Ken’s Salad Dressing that will have you taking it home for… nothing! Ken’s Salad Dressing is on sale for $1 a bottle. Use the $1 coupon from 8/15 SS and it’s yours… FREE!
Mott’s Apple Juice is $1.99 a bottle. Use the $2-off-2 coupon from the Dominick’s “Make a Muscle” coupon book, buy 2 and pay .99 each! Or, use the $1.50-off-2 coupon from the Jewel “Fall Into Savings” coupon book, buy 2 and pay $1.24 each!
Note that the juice is on sale for a penny more at Dominick’s this week, but it’s also part of their “Buy 3 juices, get 2 snacks free” sale if this interests you.
Act II microwave popcorn is on sale for .88 a box. Use the .40 coupon from 6/20 SS and pay .48!
If you missed the great weekend-only Kraft Macaroni and Cheese deal I posted last Friday, and you like “The Cheesiest,” here’s another deal on it that will have you taking it home pretty cheap! It’s on sale for .79 a box. You’ll need the new “Fall Into Savings” coupon book to really work this deal, and the deal is this: Buy 4 boxes. Use the $1-off-3 manufacturer coupon from the Fall book and stack it with the “Buy 3, get the 4th free” store coupon from 8/22 SS. You’ll pay $1.37 for 4 boxes, or .34 each!
There’s a little deal running on Quaker Products this week — buy 5 of the following and the price drops to $1.39 each. You MUST buy in multiples of 5 to get the $1.39 price! Here’s what’s included:
Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix
– $1 off 2 – 5/2 RP ($1.78 for 2 boxes after coupon – .89 each)
Cap’N Crunch cereal
– .50 off – 8/29 RP, 5/18 RP (.89 a box after coupon)
Quaker Chewy granola bars
– .75 off 2 – 7/25 RP ($2.03 for 2 boxes after coupon – about $1.01 each)
Quaker Life cereal
– $1 off 2 – printable (.89 a box after coupon)
______________________________
Of all of these, my pick’s the pancake mix — under a buck a box is a good price. Remember to buy in multiples of 5! Fans of Quaker Life or Cap’N Crunch might want to jump in too as Quaker cereals don’t cycle low as often as other brands.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals
One-dozen cartons of Jewel eggs are .99…
Note on the “Buy 10, Save $5 instantly” ConAgra/Snapple/7-UP deal on the back page of Thursday’s flyer — none of these items are super-hot deals, as there are barely any good coupons current for any of these products right now. That, coupled with the so-so post-sale prices left me inclined to skip it. Next Sunday’s General Mills “Buy 10, Save $5” sale is looking a lot better… more on that in a week :)
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Here’s a yummy deal on Coca-Cola and Culinary Circle pizzas! (And if you’ve ever had one, you know these are the most delicious frozen pizzas..! Yum!) The deal is this… buy any 4 Coca-Cola 2 liters (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite or Coke Zero) at $1.25 each and get a FREE Culinary Circle pizza. While the price of the 2-liters is high, the end price is $5 for 4 2-liters and a pizza, so this IS a deal :) The pizzas usually sell for $4.50 each, so for .50 more you’re getting all the pop too.
UPDATE: Buying pizzas in multiples of twos (and no Coke) also triggers a $4.50 discount, so you can buy 2 pizzas for $4.50, or $2.25 each — a steal.
“Buy 5, Save $5 and donate 5 meals to Feeding America / Huddle to Fight Hunger” Catalina sale Buying any 5, mix or match, will generate a $5 Catalina. If you’re a UPC list person, you’ll find that here. Here are your products and matchups. Prices shown were gathered from the Huntley Jewel. Capri Sun 10ct. – Original, Roarin’ Waters or Sunrise – $1.99 Cool Whip 5.5-8oz. – $1.67 Crystal Light 4-8ct. – $4.49 Crystal Light On the Go 10ct. – $2.99 Kraft cheese (shredded, cubed, chunk) 5.8-10oz. (shredded $4.29, cubed $3.39, chunk $3.39) Kraft Mayo 22-32oz. – $5.99 Kraft Salad Dressing 14-16oz. – $2.49 Kraft Miracle Whip 24-32oz. – $5.99 Kraft Singles 16ct. – $3.99 Oscar Mayer hot dogs 6-10ct – $3.49 Oscar Mayer Lunchables Lunch Combinations 9-12oz. Planters Snack Nuts 5.75-16oz. |
EASIEST deal here? Buy 5 Capri-Suns 10-packs. Pay $9.95 and get $5 back – that knocks your cost for 5 to $4.95, or .99 a box! If you have coupons, it’s even better.
Right Guard deodorants are on sale for $1. Use the $1.50-off-2 from 8/15 RP, buy 2 and pay .50, or .25 each!
Baby Formula Deal – Good Start baby formula is part of a Catalina deal through 9/5: Spend $40-$59.99, get a $5 Catalina. Spend $60-$79.99, get a $7.50 Catalina. Spend $80 or more, get $15. While these are some high thresholds for the deal, formula is expensive. With cans priced at $12.99 at most stores, buying 7 puts you at $90.93 and you’d get $15 back, basically getting one can a little more than free. Of course, if you have any formula checks/coupons, this will be a much better deal too.
Athenos Hummus dips are on sale for $3.99, Buy One, Get One Free. Use this B1G1F coupon, buy two, and get BOTH free! Scheduled to run through September 22!
Mini Super-Couponing lesson: Why does this work? When you use a B1G1F coupon during a B1G1F sale, you will buy none and get two free. Here’s why… and remember, it’s important to think of your coupons AS cash. If you walk into the store and give them $3.99 in cash, how many packages of Athenos will that pay for? Two — because the store is selling you two for $3.99. Now, look at your B1G1F coupon. What is its value? Up to $5.49. Think of coupon as stating “up to $5.49 off two packages of Athenos,” and when the price of two packages of Athenos is $3.99… the coupon’s up-to-$5.49 value pays the entire price. You WILL pay tax on the pre-coupon price, as always… but both items will be free.
It’s important to note too that you do not get coupon overage with a free or B1G1F coupon when the value is “up to $5.49.” Legally, the cashier must enter the price of the first item, which in this case is $3.99. The store’s B1G1F sale makes the second item FREE. If you like learning coupon tips like these, check out my Super-Couponing workshop or DVD!
Jewel-Osco recently launched a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there (and they answer promptly!)
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products all summer, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too. I’d recommend getting on their list if you shop there.
Coupon booklets currently found at Jewel
Fall Into Savings coupon book – $18 worth of manufacturer coupons – here’s a list of what’s inside.
Tastes of a Winning Season – $5 worth of Kraft coupons
Kellogg’s Fuel For School $20 coupon books – here’s a list of what’s inside.
Jewel meat deals:
- Perdue fresh drumsticks or thighs are $1.49/lb.
- Kosher frozen hen turkey is $1.79/lb.
- Jewel is running its Fav 4 meat deal again. Purchase any 4 packages of meat for $19.99, regardless of the prices they’re marked. As with anything, your best deals here are going to be found on the items that will work out to under $2 per pound.
Jewel produce deals:
- Fresh green beans are .99/lb.
- Roma tomatoes or sweet onions are $1/lb.
- 1lb. bags of Farm Stand baby carrots are $1
- 1lb. bags of frozen Jewel vegetables are $1
- Fiji apples or Bartlett pears are $1.49/lb.
- Eggplant, zucchini or yellow squash is $1.49/lb.
- Organic broccoli is $1.99/lb.
- Red Delicious or Granny Smith apples are $2.99 for a 5lb. bag
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s currently accepts expired coupons up to one year past the expiration date, so my coupon matchups for Dominick’s deals will include expired coupons. If an expired coupon matchup is provided, it will be noted with (exp) after the date. Also, in Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals.
First off, Del Monte Ready-to-Blend Smoothies are on sale for $1. Use the $1 coupon from 8/15 RP and take these home… FREE! UPDATE: There’s a $1 printable now too!
Country Crock is cheap this week at Doms too. It’s on sale for $1.99 a tub. It’s also part of a national Catalina deal — buy two and get $1.50 in instant savings. Make this even better with coupons! Jewel stores currently have coupon dispensers on the refrigerator case with $1-off-2 coupons inside, or .40 coupons in August All You, 6/6 SS (exp,) 5/23 RP (exp,) or 3/7 RP (exp.) With the $1-off-2 coupon, buy 2, pay $2.98 and get $1.50 more off – two tubs for $1.48, or .74 each! With two .40 coupons, you’ll pay $3.18 for 2 and get $1.50 back, making each tub .84.
Note that Country Crock is even cheaper at Meijer this week too if you shop there for the small tubs, anyway — but the BIG tubs are also $1.99 at Doms, so take your pick and look for the large ones if you do the deal here.
Here’s a little deal on VitaminWater too. They’re on sale for .88, and they’re also on sale Buy 5, get 1 FREE. Use coupons to make this even better. There’s a $1-off-2 in the 4/11 SS (exp) and in August All You. Buy 6. With two $1-off-2 coupons, pay $2.40 for 6, or .40 each. With three coupons buy 6. Pay $1.40 for 6, or .23 each!
Here’s a seafood-and-vegetables deal! Cellfire has an ecoupon out for $2 off Van de Kamp’s fish AND Birds Eye vegetables. Load that to your card, and stack it with the “$2 off Van de Kamps AND Birds Eye coupon from the Dominick’s “Make a Muscle” coupon book AND the Super Coupon in this week’s ad that makes the vegetables $1.25 a bag.
Packages of Van de Kamps frozen seafood are priced $3.99-$6.99. If you go with the $3.99 haddock fillets, you’ll get $2 off with the ecoupon and $2 off with the manufacturer coupon, paying just $1.24 for everything! For the larger fillets, you’re looking at $2.99 for the fish after coupons, plus $1.25 for the veggies = $4.24!
Don’t have the Dominick’s coupon book? Print this coupon for “Buy Van de Kamps, get Birds Eye vegetables FREE. With this, the $3.99 fish drops to $1.99 with the Cellfire ecoupon, and your vegetables are FREE!
If you have any of the “Score More Savings” coupon books left from Jewel’s June promotion, there’s a coupon inside for $1 off 3 7-Up 2-liters. The 2-liters are on sale for .88 each. Buy 3, use this coupon and pay $1.64, or .55 each…

Note that you can get a limit of EIGHT free snacks per transaction, so that would be a maximum of 12 juices and 8 snacks per trip through the lane if you’re stocking up!
Best bet here? The Mott’s apple juices. Here are a couple scenario ideas!
With one “Make a Muscle” coupon book, buy 3 bottles of Mott’s. Use the $2-off-2 coupon. Pay $4 for 3 bottles of Mott’s and two free boxes of snacks! If the two free snacks you choose are Rice Krispie Treats, use a $1-off-2 coupon on them for overage, AND use the “Buy 2 Rice Krispie Treats, get $2 off store-brand bread” coupon from the Kellogg’s Fuel for School book. Pay $3 for 3 bottles of Mott’s, 2 boxes of Rice Krispie Treats, and a loaf of store-brand bread (on sale for $1.69-$1.99, so FREE with coupon!)
If you have three of the “Make a Muscle” coupon books, you can double-stack this deal. Buy 6 Mott’s and use 3 of the $2-off-2 coupons. Pay $6 for 6 bottles of Mott’s AND four boxes of snacks of your choice! And if you go with the Quaker Chewy granola bars here, look for a freestanding Quaker bars display near the milk cooler with tearpads for “Buy 4 Quaker Chewy bars, get FREE gallon Lucerne milk!” If you then use two .75-off-2 coupons for the Quaker bars (for overage here) you’ll ultimately pay $4.50 for 6 Mott’s, 4 Quaker bars and a gallon of milk! LOVE this deal!
Look for other deal-making ideas in last week’s post about this deal (note, again, that the Mac & Cheese is no longer on sale.)

*A note on Dominick’s Super Coupons:
What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases after your Club Card discount is applied. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (after Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals of the week for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.
For my Rockford-area shoppers (and Kroger shoppers too!) here are your Hilander sales for the current week…

Off to Target, where it’s a bit of a slow week deal-wise…
Target often runs “hidden” gift card deals that aren’t in the ad, but if you scan the included items at the price scanner in the store, a message pops up on the scanner telling you what kind of gift card the item is tied to.
This hidden deal is on the 32-count Carefree Ultra Protection liners. They’re on sale for $3.15 at most stores. Scan them at the price scanner to be sure you have the correct kinds. Once you do, buy 2 and get a $5 Target gift card! Let’s use coupons, of course, to make this even better… print two of these $1 coupons. Buy 2 liners and with coupons, pay $4.30… and get a $5 gift card back! Moneymaker!

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Yesterday at Jewel I noticed that the Old Orchard Healthy Balance 64oz juice was on a B1G1 sale. I had a B1G1 coupon in my coupon wallet, so I got both free. The coupon was cut from a magazine but I don’t remember which magazine. I think it was All You, but it doesn’t show up when I go to Coupon Tom.

Just wanted to give a heads up.I am not sure if it depends on what type of pizza but I just bought two spicy Italian CC pizzas and did not receive a cat.The machine was working but I did not receive my cat.I did not say anything to the cashier because technically you are not supposed to get a cat without purchasing the soda.No big deal we love these pizzas and one is enough for our family. So still a cheap meal for the three of us.

Did anyone actually try to do the moneymaking deals with gift cards in Target lately?
They don’t work for me anymore. In best case scenario I break even, without loosing money. Cash register doesn’t let me use all my coupons (or coupon automatically adjust itself down) if I am getting a gift card. Even if cashier pushing it thought, it doesn’t work. Just last week I was at two different Targets and wanted to purchase 2 Schick razors. (read about the deal somewhere) Was supposed to use 2 Target coupons + 2 man. coupons and get a $5 gift card. It didn’t work. Target coupons went through. Man. coupons scanned at $0.
It looks to me that maybe money making time at Target is coming to an end? Even 6 months ago it was easy , but not anymore. Read somewhere that Target changed there cash registers… Maybe not everywhere yet?

I see you have the coupon matchup listed, but I don’t see the 100 Calorie Cheese on the UPC list. Am I just missing it? Thanks for your help and thanks for posting the deals each week. Being able to print out the deals makes it so much easier to shop and not overspend when you have a house full of out of town visitors!

Aren’t Lean Cuisine dinners & entrees included in this? They are in the ad – I know that YMMV @ Dom’s and you have to look for the tags @ your particular store. (Ran into that w/P&G gift card deal.) Anyone know if Market Creations Entrees are in? Got those great BOGOs off of Facebook earlier today!

I went to the Bolingbrook meijer and the Taco bell Dinner kits were not on sale for $1.49. The were coming up regular price ($2.99). I checked the ad but did not see them listed in the ad either. Perhaps this sale has ended??

I bought a Swiffer Sweeper starter kit ($7.99) and a sweeper refill ($11.49) today at Target. The coupon for free refill (from Home Made Simple coupon booklet) was scanned at $7.99 instead of $11.49. Luckily, I had a very, very nice employee who is willing to fix that for me. Anyone else have the same problem?

I’m wondering if manufaturers and/or marketing companies are seeing if we’ll use these coupons more than the ones we get in Sunday’s paper. It seems more and more of the deals lately are using these coupons and not as many are from the Sunday paper (I’m talking Jewel mostly, and maybe it’s just the deals I’M interested in…) but I’m beginning to get frustrated because I can’t usually find many coupon books at my Jewel, and even when I do I don’t want to be greedy and don’t take more than 3, tops. Why do I pay for a paper if I’m not going to be using the coupons in it? haha. Again I just hope Jewel steps it up soon with more catalina deals- I think those are most of our favorites!!! :)

I went to the Oswego Jewel this morning and had a strange incident. My first order, I had 2 spinach/mushroom pizzas. The cashier said, “9.09 please” I said, oh, I thought there was supposed to be some instant savings, like a B1G1. I had just read the deal, so I wasn’t sure exactly how it was supposed to work. So, she flipped thru the ad and didn’t see anything. Then she called the customer service and they said NO, they are 2 for $9. and then all of the sudden, she looked at the total and it was only $4 something??!! I said, did you press a certain button or something? She said no. Anyhow, I then paid. In my next transaction, I had 2 more pizzas (sausage). This time, the $ never came off…the total kept at $9. So, I had her take those off of that order, and didn’t get those. But it was very strange how it wasn’t working at first, then all of the sudden worked. And then the second time around, it didn’t work at all (I even had tons of other stuff she scanned afterwards to give the computer some time for the instant savings kick in) But yeah, the store said they knew nothing about this deal. I guess I was lucky to at least get the 2. The shelves were pretty cleared though, so it must be working for other people?? Anyone else have any issues with it?
savinmoolah says
FYI on Country Crock at Dominicks…it’s an instant “coupon” of $1.50 that comes off when you purchase 2 containers not a cataline. It was funny, I was standing there at the register waiting for my catalina to print and it didn’t. I brought it up to the service counter and they pointed out to me that it was instant. DUH! At least this was how it worked at the Dominicks in Glen Ellyn today. By the way, that’s an instant $1.50 off 2 containers priced at $1.99 – the HUGE containers! Plus the cut out coupons! The instant coupon just makes it easier.

I already know what is SS, RP,PG.. just don’t know what RR means.
nomers79 says
I didn’t see anyone post this yet-hopefully I’m not repeating it. I was at Domick’s today-Doritos are B1G1. I noticed a tear pad underneath the Sun Chips that stated Buy any 2 bags of Doritos, get a bag of Sun Chips free. So for $3.29-I got all 3 bags of chips. I suppose there are coupons out there to make this better, but I only had the coupons that I cut out ahead of time. Still a good deal to me.

Okay, I went to Wags to buy the soft soap body wash deal which was Buy 2 for $7 and get $5 RR back….which I got. Since I wanted a few more, I went back and got two more and did another transaction using the $5 RR I was just given. I did not get another $5 RR for buying those 2 more. Can I not use my RR on things that give back RR?

Ok I found another thread and it appears that the B1G1 Q for Healthy Balance was in the May or June All You. The Juice is on sale B1G1 at Jewel. If you have the B1G1 Q you can get two free.
If not, you can go to https://healthybalance.com/ and in the lower right corner print a Q for $1 off two.. so you can get two for $2.29 (about $1.15 each for 64 ounces isn’t bad).
Cheapolak says
Do you need to buy 5 of the same item to get the savings or can you mix it up among the included products? (I’m thinking 4 lean cuisines to get the $2 Cat and then a Starbucks ice cream with the $1.50 Q to make it free)

to my surprise..it had gone down on Sunday on sales for $32.99 and you get a $5 gift card back for each bag. This is not advertised on the weekly flyer. the items had a tag..I didn’t catch the end sale date..but I now it started on Sunday..this was the algonquin store on Randall road.
for 40lbs I paid $32.99 – 5 gift card – $1 from 8/29 P&G = $26.99
all of you who buy this brand know that this is a great price for this size.

My freezer can hold no more! Been super-couponing now for 2 months and I am out of freezer space! Anyone know where I can get a deal on one for my garage? Lol! I am wary of Meijer as I used coupons yesterday for Dannon lite n fit $1/2 and they only gave me $.50 off 2. Sadly I didnt realize this til I got home! Guess I am going to really have to add my coupon totals for each store and check before I leave! Lesson learned!
