Hello, Super-Couponers! Can you believe there are only 13 days until Christmas? Over the weekend, so many users were viewing JillCataldo.com at the same time (again) that the server was overloaded until around 11:30pm Saturday night… right around the time enough people apparently went to bed to give the server a rest! I’ve upgraded my shared webserver hosting twice this year already, but the site’s grown so much that it needs a BIG upgrade. So, the blog is getting an early Christmas present — a dedicated server to handle more traffic, more users and more simultaneous connections, with faster speeds for everyone. You may experience occasional, temporary periods of downtime as we transition from the old server to the new.
This week is also your last chance to give that special friend or family member the gift of savings this holiday! My Super-Couponing® DVD will change the way you shop forever! Click here to order the Super-Couponing® DVD! NOTE: December 17th is the LAST day to order to guarantee Christmas delivery. Orders placed AFTER December 17th WILL NOT ship before Christmas.
To my new readers, if you’re interested in learning to save on almost everything you buy at the grocery store, why not make a New Year’s resolution for 2011 to attend a Super-Couponing workshop? Many are FREE, and in one hour you’ll learn how to cut your grocery bill 50-70%! January 2011 Super-Couponing classes are taking place in Chicago, Arlington Heights, and Palatine. Learn more!
This week’s newspaper contained two inserts: a SmartSource (SS,) a RedPlum (RP.) Don’t throw the Tribune away either though, as on page 10 of section 1, there are some Jewel store coupons, and on the wraparound ad around section 1 of the Trib, there are some Dominick’s store coupons. AND, go through your inserts too — some delivery/distribution areas also received a single-page ad for $10 off any in-store purchase at Fannie May stores. Yes, that’s $10 worth of free candy… yum!
Now… ready for your Deals of the Week? You may enjoy $1.50 bags of Wonderful Pistachios, .50 Hunt’s Ketchup, FREE Swiss Miss hot cocoa, $2.99 Margaritaville island-style shrimp, .59 5lb. bags of flour, $1.49 Oscar Mayer lb. bacon, .44 boxes of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, .49 baking chocolate chips, FREE Nivea Lip Balm, FREE Horizon organic milk, FREE and .49 boxes of Nabisco crackers, .99 Ovaltine, FREE Taster’s Choice coffee, .09 Land O Lakes Spreadable Butter, FREE Activ-On pain relief, FREE Goody hair products, .99 Listerine, FREE Hershey’s Bliss, .24 Crest toothpaste… so let’s get started!

Deals continuing from previous weeks:
GIFT CARD DEAL: Through 12/16, Buy $100 in selected gift cards (AMC theaters, Applebees, Bass Pro Shops, Catherine’s, Fashion Bug, iTunes, JC Penney, Lane Bryant, Marshalls, Regal Entertainment Group, Sephora, Spa Finder, TGI Fridays and/or TJ Maxx) and get a $10 Catalina for your next Jewel shopping trip! This deal stacks up five time (buying $500 in gift cards will generate $50 in Catalinas) but you can only use one $10 Catalina per transaction.
Here’s a deal on Nature’s Farm natural, hormone-free milk! It’s on sale for $2.99 a half-gallon carton (through 1/2.) Look in the refrigerated case near the milk for a tearpad of $2 coupons. With coupon, you’ll pay .99 a carton! This milk is ultra-pasturized too, so the dates are long — mine expire 1/16/11.
Note that while this milk does not state “organic,” it seems to be similar in taste/quality as organic — and for the price, I’ll happily make the switch for a few weeks! I also noticed that at one store, the tearpad had $2 coupons on top, and midway through they switched to $1 coupons. Just a heads-up. Tearpad coupons expire 12/31/10.
Competitor Coupon Deals
Did you know Jewel-Osco also accepts competitor coupons IF they’re for a competitor’s house brand? They sure do — it’s right in their coupon policy, but many shoppers aren’t aware of it!
If you have the Dominick’s Big $60 Thanksgiving Coupon Book, there are coupons that line up nicely to sales on the same Jewel-house-branded items:
Jewel 32oz. bags of powdered and brown sugar are on sale for $1.49. Use the .50 coupon from the $60 Thanksgiving book and pay .99!
Jewel 10-10.5oz. marshmallows are on sale for .89 Use the .50 coupon from the $60 Thanksgiving book and pay .39!
Jewel’s Shoppers Value brand spice shakers are on sale for $1. Use the .50 coupon from the $60 Thanksgiving book and pay .50!
Jewel-Osco has a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there (and they answer promptly!) They’ve also got the free cookware promo under way, so save your stickers from qualifying receipts to earn free pots and pans.
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too. I’d recommend getting on their list if you shop there.
Coupon books currently found at Jewel:
Deliciously Simple Holiday Recipes – here’s what’s inside
Share Something Delicious – here’s what’s inside.
$50 Kellogg’s “Your Ultimate Holiday Guide – here’s what’s inside.
Jewel meat deals:
- HAM DEAL! There’s a coupon for $9 off a ham when you spend $20 at Jewel. This coupon resulted in many free/cheap hams last year! The coupon’s not active until 12/16, but cut it out of the paper and keep it until the sale begins. This coupon, and other Jewel store coupons, can be found on page 10 of the 12/12 Chicago Tribune, section one.
- Perdue Oven Stuffer roaster chickens are $1.49.lb.
- Jewel Stockman and Dakota roasts are on sale B1G1F this week (these are pricey at $25.) This week’s Chicago Tribune has a coupon for $5 off the roasts on page 10. The 11/14 Chicago Tribune had a coupon for $5 off the roast on page 9 (same paper that $10 turkey coupon appeared in.) If you buy two roasts, use the $5 coupon on one and get the second free with the B1G1F, paying $20 for both, or $10 each.
Jewel seafood deals:
- Fresh farm-raised catfish nuggets are $1.99/lb.
Jewel produce deals:
- 5lb. bags of Texas grapefruit are $2.99 – that’s about .60/lb.
- 4lb. bags of California navel oranges are $2.99 – that’s about .75/lb.
- Idaho russet or sweet potatoes are .79/lb.
- Sweet or white onions are .99/lb.
- Anjou, Bosc, Bartlett or Red pears are $1.29/lb.
- Mangos are .79 each
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s (View weekly ad)…
Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s currently accepts expired coupons up to one year past the expiration date, so my coupon matchups for Dominick’s deals will include expired coupons. If an expired coupon matchup is provided, it will be noted with (exp) after the date. Also, in Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons are being rolled into the “Just For U” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also now load these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?
In the Dec. 9-15 flyer – (New York Strip Steak on cover:)
- Bird’s Eye Steamfresh frozen vegetables (11-16oz.) are $1.25, limit 4, with Super Coupon. If you did not use the “Buy Steamfresh, Get Lightly Sauced Vegetables FREE” coupon from 10/24 SS, use it here and get two bags for $1.25, or about .63 each.
- Hefty Trash Bags (18-80ct.) are $5.49, limit 3, with Super Coupon. Stack this with the $2 coupon from the Dominick’s $25 Fall Savings (small yellow square book) and pay $3.49.
In the Dec. 12-18 flyer – “Great Traditions, Low Prices” on cover:
- Speed Stick is $1.49, limit 4, with Super Coupon. Use the .50 coupons from 10/3 SS (exp) or 7/25 SS (exp) and pay .99!
In the Dec. 12-18 wraparound flyer – “Holiday Daily Deals” on cover:
- Stove Top Stuffing is .88, limit 8, with Super Coupon. Look in the store for “Buy 3, get the 4th free” tearpads to drop this great price even more!
- Pam and Wesson Oil are $1.99, limit 4, with Super Coupon. Use the $1 coupons from the Dominick’s $60 Thanksgiving coupon book and pay .99 each!
- Green Giant Canned Vegetables are .59 each, limit 4, with Super Coupon. Buy four and use the $1-off-4 from the Dominick’s $60 Thanksgiving coupon book and pay $1.36 for four, or .34 a can!
- Simply Orange Juice (590z.) is $2.49, limit 2, with Super Coupon. Stack this with the .50 coupon from the “Add Dairy to your Summer Adventure” coupon book (in-store, exp) and pay $1.99!
- Sun Maid Raisins (24oz. canister) is $1.99, limit 1, with Super Coupon. The only manufacturer coupon out right now is a $1-off-2 (11/7 SS) but your second canister will cost a whopping $3.99 – with coupon, you’d pay $4.98 for two, or $2.49 each.
- And, my favorite coupon of the week! Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Shrimp (8-10oz. boxes) are on sale for $3.99, limit 1, with Super Coupon. Use the $1 coupon from 4/25 RP (exp) or a printable and pay $2.99! These rarely, if ever, go on sale in the “very cheap” range — they are regularly $8.99 a box (!) But, if you like them (as I do)… this is a very good price. Subsequent boxes in the same trip are on sale for $4.99 – even getting more boxes at $3.99 post-coupon is still a deal.
I giggled a little when I printed these Margaritaville coupons too – the printed page says “Margaritaville is the premier island-escapism lifestyle brand.” Who couldn’t use a little “island-escapism” with the freezing cold weather we’re having? :) It IS cheaper than traveling to the tropics… or even going to a restaurant!

Honey Bunches of Oats Last week’s deal continues through today! They’re on sale for $1.67 (3-for-$5.) But, they also double-dip with a National Catalina sale: Buy 3 boxes and get a $2 Catalina; buy 4 boxes and get a $3 Catalina. Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

At walgreens Hunt’s tomato sauce 8 oz is 3/$1 limit 6 with the walgreen coupon in the flier. Use the $1 off of 4 cans coupon in the Conagra coupon booklet. Buy 4 cans, total should be $0.33. Comes down to about 8 cents per can.

I think this is a good deal too, if you want to buy new Shrek movie. It’s on sale at Dom for $22.99 for Bluray and you get some free stuff including 1 free Sierra Mist which is on sale buy 2 get 3 free. So I think you just need to buy 1 more and get 3 free. Reg price is $5.99 and you can use $1 Q from $60 book. So you’d get 5 -12 packs for $5!
Of course don’t forget to print coupon for $5 off Shrek movie. Info is in todays Parade magazine.

You can sweeten the Jewel ham deal even more if you need to buy beer too. I went to Jewel yesterday and my husband asked me to pick up some Miller Lite. There are post-it note like coupons on a case of Miller Lite bottles that says: Save $5 instantly if you buy this and at least $10 worth of ham. (Not sure when it expires as I used it yesterday and was not greedy by taking more of them.) Then, when you go to the cooler that has the Miller Lite, some of the cases had a little coupon book taped to them called: Holiday Recipes and offers. Inside the coupon book was a $5 Mail in rebate when you purchase any turkey or ham (min. $10) and one 12 pack or larger or Miller Lite. So basically if you are already buying ham anyway with the coupon in the paper, you can get a case of miller lite and get another $10 off the price.
Lastly, inside the coupon book were more coupons that could be used….$1 off if you buy creasant rolls and Miller lite…they could be generic and the generic happened to be on sale for 1.39, so I was able to get them for 39 cents. I am just bummed I didn’t wait until today so I could have gotten another $9 off my Jewel order!
(There was also a coupon for $1 off two Cheese its in the book too).
stretchingabuck says
Couldn’t you use 2 $5 coupons for the Stockman and Dakota roasts that are BOGO this week at Jewel, paying $15 total for 2 roasts? (Assuming you get mulitple papers or saved the Q from several weeks ago.) I know Dominick’s doesn’t allow you to use a Q on the free item when Dominick’s is running a BOGO sale, but thought Jewel allowed it.
nfernschuss says
The Target by me (Plainfield) had been raided of all the Travel Hungry Hungry Hippo games, so I went across the street to Walmart, and they had some left! They were $5.24, but I paid .42cents for TWO games (I used the ad coupon and the printout), thought that was a pretty great deal, because that is both of my son’s FAVORITE game! Also, WalMart sells the Pictionary Card game for $5 even, so the would be free versus paying one dollar at Target. I “bought” the last box when I was there last week, but maybe others around everyone else would have some.
nfernschuss says
Also, went to Meijer to pick up some things for dinner, and they had a couple ladies out handing out samples, and on their tables were some recipe books, along with a sheet of Meijer coupons, one of which was for Meijer brand Shredded Cheddar cheese .50cents off, which all 8oz. bags are on sale for 3/$5. Grab 3 sheets, that’s $1.50 off cheese.
Not sure if they’ll be out there all week, or if it was a weekend thing.
Jewel’s brand cheese is on sale for 3/$5.00 as well.
yamiagemini says
They are in Jewel ad this week 2 for $3.00, if you were lucky enough to get the Dominicks $60 Thanksgiving book, it has $1 Q off of Hefty, So .50 a package…can’t complain about that!
Target DOES have more Airwick candles on sale, I picked of 5 frosted glass candles in cherry/lavender/apple…The shelf tags shows price drop of $2.99 until 1/1.

Jewel is running the buy 10 and save $5 again. Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers are on sale for $2.49, if you work in the $5 savings, you get them for $1.99 each. My Avenu had a $2.00 coupon, limit 8. I purchased (8) Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers, $2.49 ea, (1) Funfetti Cake Mix $.99, and (1) Wesson Oil $2.49. I used $1 off the Wesson from Dominicks Big Thanksgiving Book, (8) $2.00 off of the Fresh Mixers, received the $5 instant savings, and paid a total of $1.76.
You can do better if you just buy (2) of the cake mixes, you would end up paying $.90 plus tax!
Hamptons Mom says
The Meijer coupon for the butter (spreadable $1 off of 2) is for the larger size which is not on sale. The 99 cent ones don’t work with the coupon. Might work with the sticks I didn’t check (don’t use them) but it didn’t for the smaller tubs that were in the sale.
Dione70 says
Cant get it to print. Help?

Has anyone been able to find the Bliss candy bars at CVS? I have been to 2 already and can’t find them. The second store the girl showed me where they use to be and there was dove there now. Any help would be great – need some candy for Secret Santas at school.

Went to Dominick’s today. Made one transaction for 3 boxes of 20ct Twinings Tea only. The $6.00 didn’t take off. Talked to CS, he checked the list, it is on the list, and then he made all kind of excuse that is not the one. I asked him show me the one it is suppose to be on the list. He said just for this once he will take $6.00 off. Anyone had same experience that Twinings Tea is not working for B3 get $6.00 off. I am buying their product, but feels like getting a favor. I don’t like that.

I saved 62.00 at Jewel this week by using their sales/card and by stacking coupons. I also saved on the roasts.. got 2 roasts for 6.99 total…the pistachios were a great buy. Thanks for your site. I have learned how to stretch a dollar on things my family of 4 needs. My total bill was 150.00 instead of 220.00. I also bought 4 general mills cereals 1.75 a box and then had coupons for each of them for 75 cents a box. I love to go home afterwards and see how much money I saved!!!!
Ruby Red says
My mom had the same problem with the tea not working, but the cashier took care of it for her.

going to the Dominick’s on the corner of Route 12 and Big Hollow Road if you are looking for baking chips or Nivea lip balm. They are OUT.
And be sure to watch the Dominick’s coupons…I bought three bags of brown sugar and the 50 cent coupons rang up as ONE CENT EACH. Fortunately, I caught it while she was doing the transaction so I got it corrected before we were done.
So even though the deal I had planned out had to be scrapped and totally reworked, I still managed to buy $20.00 worth of merchandise to get my $10 off the ham. Picked the smallest ham I could find and it cost me $5.09!! It will make a great dinner this Saturday for my birthday along with the $1/lb. squash I bought.
They still have plenty of crackers of all kinds.

Does anyone know if i use a jingle cash $5.00 that i got last week for spending over $25.00. Would i still get another one this week if i spend over 25 again. I know kind of a dumb question but hopefully this makes sense (on what my question is).

“Bic Comfort Razors (disposable, 4ct.) are on sale for $3.99, Buy One Get One Free. Use the $2 coupon from 12/12 SS and pay $1.99 for TWO, or less than $1 a pack. With TWO $2 coupons, get two packages FREE!”
I tried this with 2 coupons today. When the 2nd $2 coupon beeped, I whipped out my coupon policy print-out. Then I realized it says…
“When items are featured in a Buy One, Get One Free promotion, up to two coupons can be used against the items being purchased, as long as the net price does not go below zero for the items being purchased. ”
I realized that the total for the 2 razors was down to $1.99 after the first coupon. So, the second coupon would cause the total to go “below zero”.
This might be a YMMV situation though!

Maybe I’m confused, but I was able to use about $20.00 worth of expired catalinas from Jewel and Wags at Dominicks yesterday. Are they still suppose to take these? I thought they were not with the new coupon policy… I was going to throw them out, but thought I would ask the cashier before I did when I did my Christmas shopping yesterday. (With all the great deals, super cheap crackers, 1.00 spiral ham, rib roast, etc., etc., etc… I paid $76.00 for $312.00 worth of food and more..! 76% savings) The catalinas scanned just fine and the cashier did not even have to push them through. So, what is the new coupon policy on these cats?
