Spanish Jewel Deals:
(When I blog deals specific to the “Spanish Jewels,” as some shoppers affectionately call them, I note them in my Deals of the Week with this little chili pepper icon. View the Dec. 16-24 Spanish ad.
Loaves of fresh-baked French bread are $1.50 each.
20lb. bags of Riceland rice are $4.98 each, limit 4.
4.4lb. bags of Masa Brosa corn flour are .99.
8oz. cans of Goya tomato sauce are .25 each, limit 12.

19oz. Nestle Abuelita chocolate is $1.50. Use the .50 coupon from the Dominick’s $60 Thanksgiving coupon book and pay $1! I know we all need more hot cocoa like a hole in the head, but those of you that are hot chocolate lovers need to try this stuff… Nestle Abuelita is made with Mexican chocolate, which is slightly sweeter with a cinnamon undertone. It’s divine. More work to make (you melt solid chunks of it IN milk on the stove to make “real” hot chocolate) but it’s so good I occasionally pay for it when it’s on sale. And it is now.
MUY CALIENTE! I’m not a huge rebater (honestly, a rebate has to be double-digits [$10 or more] to catch my interest.) But did you see the $25 Jewel Gift Card rebate for the Spanish Jewel stores this week? Their “Que Bueno es ser Madre y Mujer” (“It’s good to be Mother and Woman”) promotion on the second-to-last page of the ad offers a rebate for a free $25 Jewel-Osco gift card with a $25 purchase of ANY Kimberly-Clark paper products! (View the offer in this week’s Spanish ad.)
Prices were collected at the Huntley (not Spanish) and Elgin/Larkin (Spanish) Jewel locations on 12/17. This price list may not be reposted without credit to JillCataldo.com.

The wording on this one is a little confusing regarding using coupons on the products. The terms state “Total net price (excluding taxes, coupons or any other discounts) of purchased Kimberly-Clark products must be $25.00 or more.” However, “net price” usually means AFTER all discounts (“gross” would be before any discounts.)
To be on the safe side, I would go over $25 AFTER coupons. With the gift card, you’re still getting the $25 back regardless, but if you use coupons, you’re bringing more products home for your $25, if that makes sense. People looking for diaper deals will love this — free or crazily cheap diapers! (You could buy that $29.99 diaper box too with the $2 peelie, pay $27.99 and get $25 back — that’s a lot of diapers for $2.99.)
Or, stock up on what you need. $25 worth of toilet paper or paper towels may seem like a lot to bring home at once, but if it’s FREE? Go for it!
It is also not clear from the giveaway text whether or not your purchases must be made at a Spanish Jewel store. But, this offer is only IN the ad for the Spanish Jewels, and on the back page of the flyer, it does state that these offers are “good only at the following stores:” (list of stores). To be on the safe side, I purchased my products at one of these Spanish locations. (I want the best odds of getting the rebate back!)
Note too that this rebate is valid through 1/15/11 while supplies last. If you don’t jump on this one right away, there is a chance you may not receive the card, as we don’t know how many gift cards are actually allocated to this promotion.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
12-packs of Coca Cola, Pepsi, or 7-Up/Dr. Pepper products are 4-for-$10. You MUST buy 4 to get this price.
16oz. packages of Jewel Bacon are $2.99 ( – $2.48) not terrible prices if you need it and missed last week’s bacon sales.
64oz. bottles of Jewel Apple Juice are $1.79 each – again, not super-cheap but also not terrible if you need it. (My usual price benchmark for a 64oz. bottle of 100% juice is $1.50 or less.)
Competitor Coupon Deals
Did you know Jewel-Osco also accepts competitor coupons IF they’re for a competitor’s house brand? They sure do — it’s right in their coupon policy, but many shoppers aren’t aware of it!
If you have the Dominick’s Big $60 Thanksgiving Coupon Book, there are coupons that line up nicely to sales on the same Jewel-house-branded items:
Jewel’s Shoppers Value brand spice shakers are $1. Use the .50 coupon from the $60 Thanksgiving book and pay .50!
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Canned 20oz. Dole Pineapple is .99. Use the $1-off-3 from the “Deliciously Simple Holiday Recipes” book, buy three and pay $1.97 for three, or about .66 each!
In the Dominick’s $60 Thanksgiving coupon book, there’s a coupon for $1 off Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa. Swiss Miss is on sale for $1 too through the end of the year – FREE with this coupon!
Nature’s Farm natural, hormone-free milk is on sale for $2.99 a half-gallon carton (through 1/2.) Look in the refrigerated case near the milk for a tearpad of $2 coupons. With coupon, you’ll pay .99 a carton!
Note that while this milk does not state “organic,” it seems to be similar in taste/quality as organic — and for the price, I’ll happily make the switch for a few weeks! I also noticed that at one store, the tearpad had $2 coupons on top, and midway through they switched to $1 coupons. Just a heads-up. Tearpad coupons expire 12/31/10.
Jewel-Osco has a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there (and they answer promptly!) They’ve also got the free cookware promo under way, so save your stickers from qualifying receipts to earn free pots and pans.
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too. I’d recommend getting on their list if you shop there.

- Tomatoes on the vine are $2.49/lb.
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s (View weekly ad)…
Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s currently accepts expired coupons up to one year past the expiration date, so my coupon matchups for Dominick’s deals will include expired coupons. If an expired coupon matchup is provided, it will be noted with (exp) after the date. Also, in Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons are being rolled into the “Just For U” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also now load these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?
In the Dec. 16-22 flyer – “Great Traditions, Low Prices” on cover:

- 32oz. Lucerne coffee creamers are $1.69 each.
- Safeway Select Appetizers are $1.99 each, limit 3, with Super Coupon. (I had to add this because I really love their “Apple Blossoms” – they’re fabulous apple turnover kinds of things.) There are 4 in the box, so that’s about .50 each.
This week, there’s a new ecoupon on Just For U (Dominicks.com electronic coupons) for a FREE 2-liter bottle of Pepsi Max. Load it, buy it, enjoy it!

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

The milk at the Algonquin Meijer is actually $1.88, so an even better deal. And the oil is $2.85 (I think–might be $2.88) so with the $2 Mealbox coupon, it’s only .85 cents a bottle :). Don’t know if it’s the same at all Meijers but I got both deals at the Algonquin store on Friday.

Got $5 in Jingle Cash last week for spending $25 – can I use it to buy the nail polish and still get the $5 RR back? I know their deals don’t roll but I am using a different Jingle Cash so will it still work?

What part of Just For U is this coupon in? I looked in the coupon center, the personalized deals and the other one (can’t remember the title) and I don’t have it.
Perhaps only certain people got it.

I’m confused on the math with the Digiorno pizza deal.
If you’re buying 3 pizzas @ 3.99 each = 11.97
-3 mq
-2 cat
Doesn’t that equal $6.97 for 3 pizzas? not $.99 each
mrsjd2 says
As always, thank you for all these goodies! I got three free Hummus, a free lunchable, a $1.28 ham, and 38 rolls of TP that will be nearly free after the rebate from Jewel.
I spent $60+ at Walgreens, though, and was bummed that they aren’t giving Jingle Cash for spending large amounts this week!

Garden Delight was NOT on sale at 2 Jewels that I went to tonight:( I checked the ad and didn’t find it in there either! Where was this sale advertised? Please help! Could really use some free pasta for Christmas Eve!

When I went to the Higgins/Meacham Rds. Dom’s today, I was surprised to see the Ritz Toasted Chips bags were $1 when you buy 5. There are the $1/1 coupons from the expired Summer “Serve up a Sandwich” book and current $1/1 ones from the 11/14 SS.
Also, the Nivea lip balm drops to .75 when you buy in multiples of 5. I had a bunch of $2/2 and $1/1 coupons, but couldn’t seem to get overage. Maybe your store will allow the overage.
cschelthoff says
The Jewel in Lisle placed a large order of this and has it on the shelf. They also placed a big order of all three flavors of the hummus and were going to have some in refrigerated section and a special display by the deli. So head on over to the Jewel on Rte 53 if you can’t locate either product.
mommysaves says
Just a heads-up to check the expiration dates on the free Pepsi Max. I picked a bottle up at the Doms in LITH yesterday and a couple of the bottles I looked at had November expiration dates (including one with a hang tag that expired in September–so that bottle had been around awhile). The one I got had a January 3 date which means, while still fresh, it’s probably been sitting around for a while.

weird – I was at the Jewel in Evanston (Howard St.) last night, and both varieties of garden delight (spaghetti and rotini) were on sale for $1, I bought as many as I had coupons for…I went back this morning to buy some more and while the Smart Taste ronzoni was still on sale for $1, the garden delight was scanning at 2.99…

At the McHenry Jewel they have plenty of Tribe Hummus although they weren’t thrilled to take my coupons. In the Tribe All Natural Hummus variety they carry Forty Spices and Classic out of the 14 varieties. In the Tribe Origins Hummus variety they carry Classic, Spicy Red Pepper and Zesty Spice & Garlic out of the four varieties. I didn’t see any of the four Tribe Organic Hummus varieties. They had a decent supply on hand yesterday.

“Kleenex single boxes, 78ct. with lotion: $1.19 – The $1.19 Kleenexes double-dip with a Catalina: Spend $10 on select Kleenex, Dial or Tylenol, receive $3 Catalina”
Yesterday I bought 9 of them, which brought my total for Kleenex to $10.71, but I didn’t receive $3 Catalina, Anyone have any idea why?
wireman1979 says
at the McHenry Jewel. At all. I don’t see any spot for the Garden Delight Pasta on the shelf so I don’t believe they carry it yet. Same with the Sierra Mist although they did have 12 packs of cans. They did, however, have plenty of Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa on hand.
Meijer in McHenry is OUT of the $1.50 Natural French bread…odd; as it is made on site in the bakery!
