Deals of the Week for February 22, 2010

What a great week of sales all around town! Prior to writing the deals, I did a Jewel/Meijer/Dominick’s run on Sunday afternoon that still has me smiling! No matter where you decide to shop this week, you’ll be taking home lots of products for very little cash. And yes, if you have ever considered getting a Swiffer sweeper, this is the week to do it! More on that in a bit…

This week’s newspaper contained three inserts: a SmartSource, a RedPlum, and a P&G.

If you’re a rebater, you might want to know about two that work nicely into some of this week’s deals. The $100 P&G Year of Savings coupon book is running again this year (get free coupon book by sending in P&G receipts) and there’s also a $15 Olay rebate (yes, those FREE body washes from the past few weeks qualify!)

If you’re a rebater, look at the Snapple display at Jewel this week. Many Jewel locations have taped rebate forms to 6-packs of Snapple. Buy Snapple, send in rebate = FREE 6-pack of Snapple. Easy! Use a coupon to make it a moneymaker — 1/31 SS has a $1 off… and you will still be up money-wise, even considering the cost of the stamp!

There’s a great high-value coupon out for Baby Basics diapers (Jewel’s house brand.) Print this $4 coupon and cut the price in half, as most jumbo packs are $7.99. Some stores may have the larger boxes on clearance for $9.99 (may not be marked – check with price scanner.) With coupon, pay $4.99 for these, a steal.

Jewel’s Fav 4 meat deal is running again. Buy any 4 meats included in the deal and pay $19.99 for all 3. Your best bets here are to watch the lowest price-per-pound, as always – I’ve done really well with chicken and fish portions during this sale in the past.

• Perdue fresh whole roasting chickens are $1/lb. (GREAT price!)
• On-Cor breaded chicken nibblers or patties (10oz) are $1 per package
• Jewel fresh whole cut-up fryer chickens are $1.49/lb.
• Fresh pork spare ribs are $1.99/lb.
• Perdue fresh Cornish Hen twin packs are $1.99/lb.
• Butterball turkey bacon (12oz.) is $2.49 a pack. Use .75 coupon from 1/10 SS and pay $1.74

(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry, or seafood) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices.)

*A note on Dominick’s Super Coupons: Dominick’s has changed their policy on minimum purchases for “Super Coupons.” You’ll remember that the old policy stated that the $10 or $20 minimums were based on the regular, non-sale, non-Fresh Values prices of the products:

What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases before your Club Card discount is applied. This total will include the coupon item’s regular price, not the discounted price. For example,the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (before coupon and before Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.

Got that? Now look at the new policy on Dominick’s site:

What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases after your Club Card discount is applied. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (after Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.

This policy change is certainly a disappointing turn of events, to say the least…

Hey, Meijer is a rocking place for deals this week! I haven’t had this much fun shopping Meijer in a long time. There’s just so much going on… so let’s get to it…

Here’s a fun deal for FREE potato mixes that will have you stocking up for… well… months to come! Betty Crocker boxed potatoes are on sale 5 for $3. When you buy 5, you’ll get a $3 Catalina… that makes your potato mixes FREE! (Note to the Meijer Managers who smartly read my blog each week – you’ll want to stock as many of these as you possibly can through Wednesday of this week.)

Note that this Catalina does NOT roll — you can’t use it to buy more potato mixes. But you can just hold them for your next Meijer trip and stock up on these in separate transactions. Use the $1 coupon from Meijer Mealbox and stack it with any of many $1 coupons for the dinner kits (1/3 GM, printable, printable — and make sure you print the manufacturer coupons for the NON FROZEN kits, as both are out there. The Meijer Mealbox coupon is good on either variety, frozen or boxed…) — with the coupon stack, your dinner kits are just .99 each!

If you’re a member of General Mills’ Pssst coupon network, you may have received ten $1.25 manufacturer coupons in the mail as part of a Macaroni Grill/Wanchai Ferry promotion. With these coupons, your meal kits are just .74 each!

Gorton’s fish sticks, fillets or tenders are on sale for $3.49 for 17.4-24.5 ounce packages. (Obviously, go with the largest sizes here to maximixe your savings.) The Jewel Preferred Card Update booklet has another $1-off-2 coupon inside, and Gorton’s site has a $1-off-2 printable and pay $5.98 for 2, or $2.99 each! Excellent price for fish! . The 1/24 SS has a .40 coupon, as does the 2/21 SS, AND, the February All You has a .60 coupon. Time to stock your freezer with cheap seafood!

Forum reader Brizzde spotted some good deals on frozen vegetables! Ore-Ida potato products! They’re on sale for $2.50 each, buy 2, get 1 free. Use the $1-off-2 coupon from February All You and pay $4 for 3, or $1.33 each!

And, there’s another good deal running on Green Giant frozen 7-12oz boxed vegetables. They’re on sale for $1 each, buy 5, get 1 free. Use two .60-off-3 coupons (2/7 GM, 1/3 GM) and pay $3.80 for 6, or .63 each!
