What a great week of sales all around town! Prior to writing the deals, I did a Jewel/Meijer/Dominick’s run on Sunday afternoon that still has me smiling! No matter where you decide to shop this week, you’ll be taking home lots of products for very little cash. And yes, if you have ever considered getting a Swiffer sweeper, this is the week to do it! More on that in a bit…
This week’s newspaper contained three inserts: a SmartSource, a RedPlum, and a P&G.
If you’re a rebater, you might want to know about two that work nicely into some of this week’s deals. The $100 P&G Year of Savings coupon book is running again this year (get free coupon book by sending in P&G receipts) and there’s also a $15 Olay rebate (yes, those FREE body washes from the past few weeks qualify!)
Ready for Chicagoland’s best Deals of the Week? You’ll be taking home cheap eggs, free chicken, free pasta, cheap Swiffers, free soap, as many FREE potato mixes as you can physically carry, cheap seafood, free Excedrin, and cheap razors (again!) Whew! Let’s get started!
(Or, jump directly to comments on this week’s deals…)
If you’re new to the site, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon lingo and abbreviations.
It’s a good idea to save the grocery and drugstore flyers from both Wednesday and Sunday each week to have on hand & refer to too as you go through the deals! And, if you’re new to couponing in general, check out my Super-Couponing® website for a list of coupon classes (most are FREE!) and easy instructions on how to start using coupons effectively!
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on Illinois stores, the Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu, Safeway, or Kroger-owned store, you may find similar sales to our Jewel, Dominick’s, and Hilander deals. Welcome, and enjoy!
AND… my Super-Couponing® class is now available on DVD! Own the 72-minute class and watch it whenever you like! Click for a video preview & learn how to order!

- Varieties of Buitoni refrigerated pastas are $2.49. Buy 2, use two $1 off printables, pay $2.98 and get a $3 Catalina! FREE pasta!
- Spend $50 on groceries and get a $5 Catalina – note that this is working on a POST COUPON, POST GIFT CARD $50 purchase, so not quite as easy to do.
Find another great deal with the YourBucks Catalina promotion? Post it below! This set of offers is good through 3/16, and this already looks to be a very fun promotion! Some people are also reporting a bonus $2 Catalina printing with each transaction. It’s random, but if yours does, you can have even more fun with this great sale. Remember to ACTIVATE these savings 36 hours BEFORE shopping.
8oz. packages of Jewel butter are $1 each – good price (works out to $2/lb.)
Betty Crocker Helpers (Hamburger, Chicken, Tuna) are on sale for $1 each. Buy 3, use any of the following .75-off-3 coupons (printable, printable, 1/3 SS1, 2/7 SS)and pay $2.25 for 3, or .75 each…
FREEZER DEAL MATCHUPS: McCain Frozen Potatoes are B1G1F through Feb. 24. Use your freezer coupon for one free bag, and go get TWO! The Baldwin Ice Cream is back B1G1F through the 27th – get TWO of these too. And, the Deans Churn Ice Cream tubs are ALSO B1G1F through March 7th! Get two of these too! We’ll be keeping track of the B1G1F sales for the freezer coupons in this Forum discussion.
Jewel’s having a $20/$7 Catalina deal on General Mills products! Spend $20 on selected GM products and get a $7 Catalina! While the deal is running now, it’s not in the ad yet, so prices may vary by store. Thursday’s ad will have prices and products, so I’ll be blogging this one in detail for next week. But if you’re a black-belt couponer and want to get a jump on it, here’s your spreadsheet of included products…
If you’re a rebater, look at the Snapple display at Jewel this week. Many Jewel locations have taped rebate forms to 6-packs of Snapple. Buy Snapple, send in rebate = FREE 6-pack of Snapple. Easy! Use a coupon to make it a moneymaker — 1/31 SS has a $1 off… and you will still be up money-wise, even considering the cost of the stamp!
Running through 3/7 now, Trident Layers gum is on sale for $1 a pack. Use the .75 coupon from 2/7 SS and take it home for .25!
NEW THIS WEEK: Print another $4 coupon at www.babybasicsclub.com!
Continuing from previous weeks, if you’re a fan of Jewel’s Wild Harvest line of organics, here’s your chance to take some home cheap or FREE! Print this $1 off any Wild Harvest coupon and look around the store — there are MANY Wild Harvest products that sell for $1, or close to it — crackers, cookies, produce.
NEW THIS WEEK: Wild Harvest organic yogurt is .79 a 6oz. tub – FREE with coupon! AND, Wild Harvest cotton reusable grocery bags are $1 – FREE with this coupon!
Jewel meat deals:
Jewel’s Fav 4 meat deal is running again. Buy any 4 meats included in the deal and pay $19.99 for all 3. Your best bets here are to watch the lowest price-per-pound, as always – I’ve done really well with chicken and fish portions during this sale in the past.
- Perdue fresh whole roasting chickens are $1/lb. (GREAT price!)
- On-Cor breaded chicken nibblers or patties (10oz) are $1 per package
- Jewel fresh whole cut-up fryer chickens are $1.49/lb.
- Fresh pork spare ribs are $1.99/lb.
- Perdue fresh Cornish Hen twin packs are $1.99/lb.
- Butterball turkey bacon (12oz.) is $2.49 a pack. Use .75 coupon from 1/10 SS and pay $1.74
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry, or seafood) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices.)
Jewel produce deals:
- Frozen 1lb. bags of Jewel corn, green beans, peas, carrots or mixed vegetables are $1 each
- Roma tomatoes are $1/lb.
- Cameo, Golden Delicious or Red Delicious apples are $1.28/lb.
- Fresh cauliflower is $1.49/lb.
- Fresh broccoli crowns are $1.49/lb.
- Yellow nectarines, peaches or plums are $1.99/lb.
- Green or red seedless graps are buy 1lb. get 1 free – two pounds of grapes for $2.49
- Value Wise Idaho Russet potatoes are $2.99 for a 10lb. bag
Let’s talk Dominick’s! Before we dig into this week’s Dominick’s deals, if you haven’t read or had a chance to respond to this Dominick’s discussion regarding customer service and coupon issues in their stores, please do. I have been in touch with Dominick’s Public Affairs department, and they are reading this discussion. So many readers have taken a few moments to share their concerns.
And now… on to the Dominick’s deals!
Dominick’s is running a $25/$10 Catalina deal on Procter and Gamble products. Spend $25 and get $10 back!
There is so much going on with this deal that I gave the list of products its own page – it’s huge! Open that link, take a look at what’s included, and then come back here for your scenarios.

Got other great scenarios for the $25/$10 P&G Catalina at Dominick’s? Post them in the comments below! Remember that this deal DOES NOT ROLL… – with this one, you cannot use the Catalina you just got to do another round of P&G. But, if you do your P&G deal first, then go back in the store and do the other deals (meat, produce, etc) and use the Catalina to pay for those.
AND, SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS. Send them in for the free $100 P&G Year of Savings coupon book — you need $50 worth (pre-coupon) of P&G receipts, and two rounds of this sale will cover that easily.
Bumble Bee tuna pouches are on sale for $1. Use the .55 coupon from 2/21 SS and pay .45!
Gillette Foamy shaving cream is on sale for $1. Use the $1 coupon for any Gillette shaving prep product from 11/29 PG and it’s yours… FREE!
Right Guard deodorant is on sale for $1. IF Dominick’s allowed shoppers to use printables over 50% of the value of the product (which their policy currently does not allow,) this $2-off-2 printable would net you two FREE… and ironically, this great coupon is on Dominicks.com too.
(Yes, draw your own conclusions from that — they’re giving shoppers a coupon that their current policy does not allow them to use in the store. But I digress.)
Doms has a bunch of “.99 or less” product sales running too. Here are your matchups:
Dove bar soap is .99. Use the $1 off any Dove face care product (10/4/09 RP, 6/7/09 RP)to take this home FREE…
Crest toothpaste is .99. Use the .75 coupon from 10/11/09 PG to take it home for .24! Use any of many .50 or $1-off-2 coupons (11/1/09 PG, 9/27/09 PG, 8/30/09 PG, 8/2/09 PG) to cut that price by half.
Kraft Macaroni and Cheese is .99. Use the “Buy 3, get the 4th free” coupon from 12/13/09 SS” and pay $2.97 for 4, or .74 each! There’s also a $1 off 5 printable that you could use here to pay $3.95 for 5…
Continuing through 4/1, PureVia sweetener is on sale for $1.99. Use the $2 coupon in 1/3 SS1 and it’s yours… FREE!
As usual, there are some Dominick’s Super Coupons* in this week’s ads too. Best bets?
- Kraft Singles are $1.49, limit 2. Use the $1 off 2 from 11/15/09 RP or 8/9/09/RP and take two home for $1.98, or about $1 each! There’s also a .50 coupon in 12/6/09 SS.
- Lucerne butter is $1.99/lb., limit 2
Dominick’s meat deals:
- Assorted pork loin chops are .99/lb
- Fresh Perdue chicken drumsticks or thighs are $1.49/lb.
- Rancher’s Reserve boneless beef round steak is $1.59/lb. Use $2 off $10 purchase of Rancher’s Reserve beef coupon, buy 10lbs, and pay $13.90 – that’s $1.39/lb for round steak! Amazing!
- Fresh Perdue whole cut-up chicken is $1.69/lb
- Fresh 93% lean ground beef is $1.99/lb
- Center-cut pork loin chops are $1.99/lb
Dominick’s produce deals:
- Red seedless grapes are .99/lb.
- Tree-ripened yellow peaches or nectarines are .99/lb.
- Bosc pears are .99/lb.
- Large navel oranges are .99/lb.
- Minneola tangelos are .99/lb.
- Cauliflower is .99/lb.
- Eggplant is .99/lb.
- 1lb. bags of Eating Right baby-cut carrots are .99
- A 10lb. bag russet potatoes is $1.99
*A note on Dominick’s Super Coupons: Dominick’s has changed their policy on minimum purchases for “Super Coupons.” You’ll remember that the old policy stated that the $10 or $20 minimums were based on the regular, non-sale, non-Fresh Values prices of the products:
What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases before your Club Card discount is applied. This total will include the coupon item’s regular price, not the discounted price. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (before coupon and before Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
Got that? Now look at the new policy on Dominick’s site:
What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases after your Club Card discount is applied. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (after Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
This policy change is certainly a disappointing turn of events, to say the least…
Hey, Meijer is a rocking place for deals this week! I haven’t had this much fun shopping Meijer in a long time. There’s just so much going on… so let’s get to it…
Here’s a fun deal for FREE potato mixes that will have you stocking up for… well… months to come! Betty Crocker boxed potatoes are on sale 5 for $3. When you buy 5, you’ll get a $3 Catalina… that makes your potato mixes FREE! (Note to the Meijer Managers who smartly read my blog each week – you’ll want to stock as many of these as you possibly can through Wednesday of this week.)
Note that this Catalina does NOT roll — you can’t use it to buy more potato mixes. But you can just hold them for your next Meijer trip and stock up on these in separate transactions. I did a few rounds of potatoes at the self-checker, then went back into the store to buy the rest of my groceries with the Catalinas, because there are PLENTY of other great sales at Meijer this week, like…
Macaroni Grill and Wanchai Ferry dinner kits! They’re in the pasta aisle (not the refrigerated kits of the same name) and everything you need for an Italian or Chinese dinner is in the box — just add chicken! They’re usually kind of pricey… but not this week!
Macaroni Grill and Wanchai Ferry dinner kits are on sale for $2.99 each. Use the $1 coupon from Meijer Mealbox and stack it with any of many $1 coupons for the dinner kits (1/3 GM, printable, printable — and make sure you print the manufacturer coupons for the NON FROZEN kits, as both are out there. The Meijer Mealbox coupon is good on either variety, frozen or boxed…) — with the coupon stack, your dinner kits are just .99 each!

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Jill the $1.50 coupon in the February coupon book at Wags says that it’s a manufacturer’s coupon (even though it looks like a store coupon). Can we still stack it with the .75 coupon?

I didn’t get any sale papers for Jewel or Dominick’s in my 2 Tribs this week! Is this a fluke or did they not distribute them at all this week?

Could not locate Excedrin $2 coupon – possibly gone already.
Bernard2003 says
I might not have caught this one if I wasn’t trying to fill a gift bag for a baby shower, but if you have any of the nice $2 off ANY Johnson and Johnson product Qs from the January $26 savings booklet from dom’s – use it at target!
I bought numerous 9 oz bottles of head to toe baby wash for .19 each because their everyday price is 2.19! I don’t know if there are other types of wash at the same price, but the head to toe was the same price at three different targets, so – good deal if you want to use these up before the Qs expire on 2/28 :o)
BTW – I know it would have been better to be totally free, but I gave my friend a TON of stuff for around ten bucks… buddy bars (lots!), baby wash(LOTS!), butt paste, lotions, jumbo packs of diapers, teddy bears and even clearanced valentine’s candy ALL for under $10! In the end, I had two GIANT bags for her.. (the highest cost item being a JJ gift sack that was $10 but I got more than half off with a Q, of course..)
I think that’s pretty good! Oh, and of course I passed along my copy of Jill’s DVD to her… she loves couponing, but I wasn’t sure if she had done it “this way” yet!

If I have a coupon from coupon.com and another of the same product from smartsaver.com, can I use both in the same transaction, or does the 1 manufacturer’s coupon per item apply?
Thanks! I’m still new to this :)

Hey Jill!
I just wanted to let you know that the Speed Stick coupon from 1/31S you reference for the CVS deal expired on 2/20.
Lynn Simmons says
I was not able to use the .50 coupon on the sour cream, it is for 16oz. not 8oz. It beeped. They did not let me use both the $2 off coupons for swiffer and candle because they feel the free q’s are attached to the purchased item! My ecoupons did not work either. Bad day at doms again!!! Oh and I bought 5 dove soaps no $3 surprise

I bought these last week and the cat worked great.
Went in today, Monday 2/22 and they were no longer on Sale.

Just want everyone to be very careful with Swifter products if you have young children and pets. Swifter is only 2 small ingredients away from antifreeze. Many horrible health issues with this product. Google it and you will be afraid to even touch the product on the store shelf. Product poisons because pets, they walk on the floors, pick-up residue and when they lick their paws the chemicals are ingested. OMG!!! Think of your crawling children.
tctbtob says
The CS was playing cashier since they were actually busy (3 people in line). She wouldn’t take the bogo for the Swiffer with the $2 one. Said it was a policy, and she knew for sure because she read and signed off on it too, that you can’t use 2 coupons if one is a bogo. She grudgingly gave in and was not happy about it. Now I fear when I have a problem that takes me to CS and she’s there it won’t be taken care of with a smile any more.
elriedl says
I have two BOGO coupons for the same product. Can I purchase two items of that product and use both coupons to get both free or does that only work when you apply a BOGO coupon to a store BOGO offer?

I would buy a lot more stuff! :)

I bought 2 items at Jewel in Woodstock last Wed. (5:00 pm) & did not get the 2 Catalinas, eggs & Lean Cusine I think, the woman at the service desk showed me a paper stating that the deal was only for people that had comcast, I have dish network, so does that mean I am out of luck? I am not switching to comcast.

I did two rounds of BC potatoes at Meijer today, plus one transaction to buy my “actual” groceries. In addition to the expected $3.00 CATs, I also received the following store CATs from my 3 transactions:
3 – $3.50 off your next purchase of $35.00 or more (printed 1 each transaction)
1 – $1.00 off your next produce purchase of $4.00 or more
1 – $1.00 off your next bread aisle purchase of $4.00 or more
1 – $1.00 off your next salty snack purchase of $3.00 or more
1 – $1.00 off your next cereal purchase of $3.00 or more
1 – $1.00 off your next Meat and Seafood purchase of $6.00 or more.
I’m not a big Meijer fan, but I might plan a trip there next week. Love surprise CATs!

UGH!! I finally organized my coupons to hit the wonderful Meijers deals today! My Meijers (Niles) did not have the BC potatoes or the Macaroni Grill Dinners on sale. They only had the hamburger helper 5 for $5. Used the 2 coupons on the MG dinner because it was not a bad deal. Sooooo disappointed! Do different Meijer’s have different sales??

Jill, Thanks for posting the Tide deals at Dominicks! I felt like the purchase was such a steal on the “cheap” price — plus, Cats! You’re right. Tide has its followers. Thank you!

I know Doms take expired manu coupons – do they take their own expired store coupons? I found a $3 cat left over from the kleenex deal last fall.
lostmelodies says
I just used the $2 Target coupon off a new swiffer and the B1G1 refill coupon on the biggest size refill box they had, and it worked! So I got the 48 pack refill box (normally $11.49) free. I don’t know if that counts as taking advantage of a coupon, but the checker let it go, so I didn’t say anything!
knlrichter says
Sorry Jill but none of the match-ups above for Dominicks will work (at least not at Fox River Grove Doms. I just got off the phone with Customer Service because my “$25 minimum purchase” came to $32 before coupons. I figured great I’m in the clear. Nope, after deducting my coupons my purchase was now below the $25 mark, making it not qualify for the $10 catalina. I will never step foot in Dominicks again!
cschelthoff says
Ran the deal five times in total today at the Woodridge store on 63rd. Extremely pleasant experience, even though four times the cat didn’t print. The first time, no problem. Went back later and ran it four more times and not one time did a cat print (even though one transaction was a duplicate of the earlier one). Just finished all the transactions and stepped over to customer service, where the store manager totaled each receipt and then handed me four $10 cats. They took all my coupons, including the right guard printables, the Dove bar soaps, the Gillette shave cream, etc. This is now the third time I’ve shopped there in the last two weeks and each time has been the same experience.

Went to Dominicks tonight in the blizzard :) In the 20 minutes it took to do the deal my car had 1.5 inches of snow when I came out. Here is how I did the deal:
Bounty Big Roll $12.99 (minus $1 ecoupon)
Cascade gelpacs $ 4.99
Cascade Crystal Rinse $3.99(I got this because I had a coupon for getting it for free)
Finish Power paks were on sale for $2.99 (I missed out on the wags deal and used my $2.50 off Q on this one.)
Febreze Candle $5.99
Febreze Air Effects $3.00
After coupons, I paid $14.56 and got back the $10 cat.
I went back in with my dominicks card loaded with ecoupons from cellfire and shortcuts-which had some overlapping coupons) and some paper coupons.
I got some
Shout Gel on sale for $2.99
1 pack Nut clusters for $3.49 (I thought I only had $2 worth of ecoupons, but when I looked at my receipt ($3.80 was taken off plus I had a coupon for $1 off)
2 boxes of go-gurts 2/$4 ($2.40 came off in ecoupons and I had a $1 off 2 in paper)
1 gallon of organic milk $5.99
1 pack of ground beef on markdown for $1.99
My total before the cat came to $10.91 PERFECT – except that my catalina beeped.
The manager asked me some questions and then started reading the small print, apparently the cat cannot be used to purchase tobacco, liquor or DAIRY PRODUCTS!! go figure. I thought I was only going to pay .91 – oh well, I still got a great deal using the ecoupons.

I could not find Swiffers at four Dominick’s, way to keep product on the shelves, it’s probably a shock when anything starts moving fast at Dominick’s LOL, so I went to Target.
I got the $8.99 Swiffer with the $2 Target store coupon. THen I had the Buy Swiffer get REFILL FREE from that book in the mail. Did you see there is no size limit on that coupon.
Look for the biggest wipes you can find. I found a large corrugate cardboad box refill of 36 wet wipes for $11.49. Paid $6.99 for the Swiffer and giant box of wipes, great deal, thank you Jill!
Also the Bounty Basic are .99 at Target. With the $1 Bounty Basic coupon from the Save Alot book they are free.
