Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel… (View weekly ad)
First off, the Jewel Freezer Deal began yesterday! Unlike previous years, Jewel didn’t do any advertising leading up to the sale, and once it hit the flyer, the freezer sale was tucked in the bottom corner of Sunday’s ad. In previous years, the freezers have flown out of the stores in a matter of hours, but this year, many reader are reporting freezers still in stores. If you’ve ever considered getting a second freezer to give yourself some more stockpile space for frozen foods, meats, and those crazy ice cream sales that come along… now’s the time. Learn more about the Jewel-Osco Freezer Deal here.
If you do get a freezer, do NOT be in a hurry to use those coupons up right away! They don’t expire until the end of May, and the best way to maximize their value is to HOLD them and wait for B1G1F sales on those products. If any of the items go on sale B1G1F, use your coupon during the sale to get TWO free.
While I did not do the freezer deal this year (I’ve been a proud Jewel freezer owner for three years now!) I have the list of 2011 Freezer Deal coupons and will post any matchups I spot, like…
Dean’s Churn Ice Cream: It’s currently on sale B1G1F through 3/2! Use your coupon for one free carton this week and get TWO free!
18-24oz. packages of Fisher Boy seafood (fish tenders, strips, sticks) are on sale for $3.79. Use this .75 printable and pay $3.04.
RedGold Tomato Sauce is .50 a can. Buy 4 and use the $1-off-4 coupon from 1/30 SS. You’ll pay $1 for 4 cans, or .25 each!
Philadelphia Cooking Creme (it’s a cheese sauce you melt for skillets) is on sale for $2 per 10oz. carton.
If you have a free account with Kraft First Taste, log in and you may find a FREE coupon for this product. Once you get your coupon, you’ll also have the opportunity to “tell your friends about this offer.” Any email addresses you share on that screen will receive a $1.50 printable for Kraft First Taste
With the $1.50 printable coupon from Kraft First Taste, pay .50!
Jewel is running a “Buy 4 General Mills cereal, get a Catalina for a free gallon of Shopper’s Value milk” sale. With the cereal priced at $2.50/box, this isn’t the greatest deal pricewise, unfortunately.
However, THIS deal’s a little better. Selected Post cereals are on sale for $1.99. Post Honey Bunches of Oats Raisin Medley is one of them. Use the $1 coupon from 2/27 SS and pay .99!
Or, if you’re a fan of Post Pebbles, you might want to jump into this deal. The Pebbles are involved in a Catalina deal — Buy 3 boxes and get a $2 Catalina; Buy 4 and get a $3 Catalina; or Buy 5, get a $4 Catalina.
Unfortunately, there are no current coupons for this deal, but if you bought 5 boxes, you’d pay $9.95 and get $4 back, ultimately paying $5.95 for 5 boxes, or $1.19 a box.
“Spend $20, get $5” P&G Catalina Sale Buying $20 worth of any of these items will generate a $5 Catalina. CHECK YOUR AVENU! If you are a “Black Belt” coupon shopper, you may like these Black Belt Scenarios for the P&G $20/$5. New couponers may be tempted to jump in and try playing the price spread in the “Black Belt” way to take home much for little. (It IS hard to resist taking so much home for so little!) If you choose to, PLEASE, please read and abide by all of the warnings I’ve posted on the following page. If you are willing to assume ALL risks, head on over…
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Ronzoni Garden Delight is on sale for $1. Use the $1 coupon from the 1/23 SS,and it’s FREE!

Jewel Sweet Wheat and White breads (20oz.) are .88 a loaf.
4-roll Shopper’s Value bath tissue is $1.
Jewel-Osco information:
Jewel-Osco has a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there (and they answer promptly!)
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too.
Coupon books currently found at Jewel:
Value Your Heart – $35 worth of coupons, including one for a free 8-pack of Coke when you buy 3 12-packs
Jewel meat deals:
- Chicken drumsticks, thighs or leg quarters are .99/lb.
- Split chicken breasts are $1.49/lb.
Jewel produce deals:
- 5lb. bags of Value Wise or Wada Farms russet potatoes are .99, limit 2 – that’s about .20/lb., a steal!
- 5lb. bags of Texas Ruby Red grapefruit are $3.49 – that’s about .70/lb.
- 4lb. bags of California navel oranges are $3.49 – that’s about .87/lb.
- 3lb. bags of California Cuties tangerines are $3.49 – that’s about $1.16/lb. Use the .75 coupon from 2/27 SS and pay $2.74, or about .91/lb!
- 1lb. bags of Farm Stand baby peeled carrots are .99
- Sweet onions are .99/lb.
- 3lb. bags of Cara Cara navel oranges are $3.49 – that’s about $1.16/lb.
- Anjou, Red or Bosc pears are $1.49
- 6.5oz. containers of white baby mushrooms are .99
- Bags of Chiquita mini bananas are .99
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s (View weekly ad)…
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also now load these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?

A few days ago, a new $10-off-$50 ecoupon appeared on Dominicks.com at Just For U. A few days later, even if you had it loaded to your card, it disappeared. I’m hearing through the grapevine that IF you loaded it prior to its disappearance, it should still come off at the register. If it doesn’t come off, there’s likely not much that you can do unless you printed the page previously to show to your store.
Dominick’s has some new Just For U ecoupons that are quite good this week. Head to www.dominicks.com to load ecoupons for FREE Dunksters cookies (10oz.) with a $10 minimum purchase, and 3 cans of Chicken of the Sea Chunk Light Tuna for .99, or .33 a can.
Dominick’s is running a frozen food sale again – $5 off ANY* $15 Frozen Food Purchase with the coupon in this week’s Dominick’s flyer! Buy $15 worth of ANY* FROZEN ITEMS, Save $5 Note that this is a COUPON instant-savings deal — you will need the $5-off-$15 frozen coupon from the current 2/27 Dominick’s ad. *** And about that word “ANY”… this time around, the coupon states “Frozen Meat & Seafood Items Excluded,” so it’s actually not a deal on ANY frozen foods. (The last time we saw this sale in November, all frozen was included, which netted some great deals on frozen shrimp.) It’s difficult to say what frozen meat items would not be included — from the ad, Stouffer’s Meat Lasagna is in the deal, but it looks like frozen chicken strips or nuggets would likely not be. Deal ideas: California Pizza Kitchen pizzas are $5.49 each. Buy 3 ($16.47.) Use three $1 coupons (new $42 Dominick’s Frozen coupon book) plus the $5 frozen coupon. Pay $8.47 for 3 pizzas… and get a $1.25 Catalina back for every pizza you bought! With $3.75 coming back to you, you’re ultimately paying $4.72 for three, or about $1.57 a pizza! If you’re on Facebook, make this deal even better by printing this $1.25 Facebook coupon. NOTE that we do not know the end date for the Catalina — some are reporting that TODAY, 2/28, is the LAST day it will print, so do this deal Monday if you want cheap pizzas! —– Wanchai Ferry frozen meal kits are $6.49 each. Buy two ($12.98) and, in keeping with the Chinese dinner theme, add a box of Safeway Mini Egg Rolls ($2.50) for a total of $15.48. Use two $1.50 Wanchai printables (there are $1 coupons in the 2/13 GM insert and the new $42 Dominick’s Frozen coupon book too) plus the $5 frozen coupon. Pay $7.48 for TWO meals, ($3.74 each!) PLUS a “free” box of egg rolls! —– Jack’s Frozen Pizzas are $3 each. Buy 5 ($15.) Use the $1-off-3 coupon from the 1/30 RP2 insert plus the $5 frozen coupon. Pay $9 for 5 pizzas, or $1.80 each. (But really – during a sale in which the “expensive” California Pizza Kitchen costs less than good old, reliable Jack’s Pizza, why not “splurge…” —– Safeway frozen juice concentrates are $1.69 each. Buy 9 ($15.21.) After $5 coupon, pay $10.21, or $1.13 each. —– Note that prices of items not advertised in this week’s flyer were gathered at the Carpentersville Dominick’s. |
“Buy 3, Save $6” Instant-Savings Sale Buying any three products shown will generate $6 in instant savings at the register. Prices shown are AFTER instant-savings discount. You must buy in quantities of 3 to receive these prices. You are limited to receiving instant savings on 21 items per transaction. Some prices were collected at the Carpentersville Dominick’s. Here are your products and matchups: Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee 12oz. – $5.99 Caribou Coffee 12oz. – $5.99 Coffee-Mate Creamer cups 9oz. – $1.69 Folgers Coffee 27.8-33.9oz. – $5.99 Godiva Coffee 12oz. International Delight Creamers 24ct. – $1.69 Kicking Horse Coffee 12.3oz. Lipton Pyramid tea bags 18-20ct. – $1.99 Lipton Tea Bags 72 or 100ct. – $1.99 Maxwell House Coffee 31-34oz. New England Coffee 9-12oz. Revolution Tea 16ct. Taster’s Choice instant coffee sticks 20ct. – .99 Tully’s Coffee 12oz. |
If you haven’t yet signed up for the “Just For U“ electronic discounts that you can load to your Dominick’s Fresh Values card, you may want to. For registering your card, you’ll receive an ecoupon for a FREE 12-ct. Lucerne large eggs! You’ll also activate a set of electronic discounts that are tied to your card for the next 90 days. Each person’s discounts are different, and they’re based on past purchases made with your Fresh Values card at Dominick’s.

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the oter Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Hello- my Red Gold q for the Jewel tomatoes sauce deal only says the q is for tomatoes- am I assuming that means tomatoes in any form, including sauce?
That is a really good deal if the q works-
Thanks!!

Look for coupon books in the box- there are $1 qs in the book, so your next box can be a $1 moneymaker.

Jill,
Your site takes us to the exp. 2/16/11 site. Am I to assume there are no current black belts this week?
MomWifeNurse says
Spend $20, get $5″ P&G Catalina Sale. I’m sure the old post attachment is an oversight and Jill will fix it soon. But there is a nice list of the items included under the Jewel Osco heading for this week. I guess today is the day to do that because a good deal of the man q’s expire today. :)
Ruby Red says
Don’t forget if you do buy Tide at Jewel or Meijer to use the coupon from 2/27 PG which states “Buy one Tide get a Tide Stain Release Free.”

Hi Jill.
There is a printable coupon to use at Walgreens for Aquaphor Lip Repair.
Saw it on MUM:
“Aquaphor lip repair, $4.99, get $4.00 RR. Print $1.00/1 here and it’s free after RR.”
Also the $1 cpn for Activia Dessert yogurt (from 1/30/11 SS) expired yesterday 2/27.
I was at Meijer yesterday to use up my coupons.
Steve F. says
In the City, 1 gallon milk is $1.99.
….and if you are an AARP member, receive $5.00 off $20.00 Walgreen’s RR.(store Q.) You MUST hand your AARP card first to have it scanned. This works well with all the “freebies” this week.

“Oral-B Cross Action power toothbrushes or brush heads are free after ECBs and a coupon as well. On sale for $6, you’ll get $3 back for each that you purchase, limit 2. There’s a $3 coupon in the 2/27 PG. Use this, pay $3 and get $3 back, making it FREE!
If you do the deal TODAY (Monday, 2/28) you can use the B1G1F coupon from 1/30 PG too, which expires today but makes this an even sweeter deal. Buy two toothbrushes ($12.) Use the $3 coupon from 2/27 PG on your first toothbrush and the B1G1F coupon from 1/30 PG on the other. You’ll pay $3 and get $3 back, making BOTH toothbrushes FREE!”
If you use the BOGO coupon with the $3 coupon today you’ll actually get $6 back in ECB’s.
The deal is $3 in ECB’s per purchase with a limit of two. Since you’ll purchase 2 toothbrushes, you’ll get back $6 making this a $3 moneymaker.
Is that not correct?
SuperSavingMommyof2 says
The Reduced Fat Pringles are on sale 2/$3 but they are not on the UPC list either. Also, the Jewel in Batavia was advertising Febreze Air Freshener and Mr. Clean liquid cleaner as part of the deal. The small pack of Tide Stain Release is not part of the deal, but I picked it up with the free coupon anyways when I bought the liquid tide.

has anyone had luck using 2 coupons on the oral b toothbrushes at cvs ($off and the b1g1f)? i had tried to use a b1g1f and a $2 off coupon on 2 sticks of gillette deoderant before and the register beeped and the cashier said i couldn’t combine them. just curious! thanks :)

Kmart is doing “Super Doubles” again this week as well — they’ll double coupons up to and including $2 (doubles to $4) – you’ll need to purchase a minimum of $25 worth of product in the store.
Kmart’s also offering a “Spend $35, get $10 Catalina” sale on P&G products. However, Kmart’s Catalinas typically work on the POST-coupon total, which isn’t nearly as much fun. :)
Coupon Maven says
If you’ve got the old Home Made Simple “Organize in Style” coupon book (free from P&G) you might want to sign up again for another. The link is the same (https://www.thepromotionaloffer.com/hmsdrtv/) but the photo of the book is different, so this may be a new book to grab for future deals..!

I was at Gurnee Domicks doing the CPK pizza deal and …. they were $5.00 each. So 3 pizzas @ $5 less $5 for frozen coupon less $1.25 for 2 facebook coupons and $1 from Dominicks frozen coupon book. pay $6.50 and get back $1.25 for each pizza. So net cost $2.75 for 3 pizzas.

I just looked at my receipt and the marzetti veggie dip rang up for $3.79. Which is strange because it rang up $1 at the price check in the same store. This was last weeks sale and I had a dollar off coupon and was thinking I get it for free. There was another Jill follower there also and she had 3 coupons. Did this happen to anyone else. It was the last day of the sale. Member on RTE 59 Naperville
You have to watch every item ring up and also make sure they put through every coupon.

Awesome! I just got two packs of Swiffer refills at Jewel for just $2.50 after the 50 cent and BOGO coupon, $1 off (2xs) on avenue and then the $5 CAT back! Thanks so much for posting that one! My roommates and I have a “house fund” and it kills me when they buy the swiffer refills for $9, so I knew I had to run out and get this right away! :)

There’s a $1 off coupon in the 2/27 SS for Caribou Coffee, which I think would work at Dominicks.

Got a great deal at Walgreens on the Gillette ProGlide – included in the sale is a “kit” that sells for $11.99 but is also part of the $9.99/$4RR deal – and with the $4 coupon was $1.99 – in it is the razor, the cartridge, 1 battery, 1 travel size shave gel, 1 travel size lotion, and 1 travel size scrub. My girls’ school is collecting items to send to our troops – and this is perfect!
Tried to buy the 22 count Carefree pantyliners that are in the ad for 99-cents – I had a 50-cent coupon – and they didn’t have them – no shelf tag either. The manager looked them up and said they’ve been discontinued – so there likely aren’t any to be found. He was very nice, though, and let me use my coupon on the Walgreens brand equivalent which is always 99-cents.

Did my Jewel shopping yesterday and was surprised to find out that there were still plenty of freezers available. If you are still looking for one, the Shorewood jewel has them!
hobbitgirl says
I can’t seem to find it at any Jewel. Do you think they would give a rain check for it? They have all of the other flavors, but I just can’t use my coupon because it’s flavor specific.
hobbitgirl says
I’m totally new to the supercouponing thing, but I’m loving it. I confess to messing up at Wags the other day and buying some things that I probably shouldn’t have (they weren’t on Jill’s Deals of the Week, and I thought I made decent choices, but that’s my bad).
Anyway, I went back in today with some more coupons. I got 1 Proglide Razor and 1 of the new Venus Razors, and I had a manufacturer’s coupon for each. Then I tried to give the cashier a $4 catalina to use towards my payment. He said that it’s only 1 manufacturer coupon per item, and that I’d have to buy 1 more thing to use it (even if it’s just a pack of gum). Well, they had the colgate toothpaste at the checkout so I got that too (which would generate another $3 catalina).
My question is, is this a standard policy? Is it just at walgreens? I must have over $40 in RR this week alone (mostly from Wags, and then $5 one from Jewel for the PG items this week).
hobbitgirl says
Hey all, just a reminder that the “Save $25 on your groceries” offer from Jewel (which is actually a prepaid Jewel shopping card) will run out on 3/5(it was in the Value Your Heart coupon book). The offer that you get the card if you come in with a new or transferred prescription. Is it wacky that I got excited when my husband called me at work to tell me that he got a scrip for a new med today? WWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…spend $5 on the scrip and get a $25 gift card!
I picked up my bag of shrimp with one of my freezer coupons too.
Loving this!
