“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

Each week I’ll blog the best deals on school supplies too. Note that as we get closer to school starting, we’re likely to see even cheaper deals on some of these — in past years, many stores have had 1-cent and 5-cent sales. And, keep in mind that the WORST thing to do is buy your entire child’s list at one store. Going in for 1-cent pencils and paying full price for everything else makes no sense. Keep the list with you and as you’re around town each week, buy only what is cheap. By the time school starts, you’ll have the list nearly completed… on the cheap! More tips here.

8oz. bottles of Equaline Hand Sanitizer are .50.
Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? Jewel regularly sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Jewel meat deals:
- Fresh chicken drumsticks or thighs are $1.49/lb.
- Peaches, nectarines and plums are $1.99/lb.
Jewel produce deals:
- Sweet potatoes are .88/lb.
- Sweet onions are $1/lb.
- 1lb. bags of baby-cut carrots are $1
- 2lb. containers of fresh strawberries are $3.99 – that’s about $2/lb.
- Cucumbers are .67 each
- Grapefruit are $1 each
- Mangos are $1 each
- Whole seedless watermelons are $3.99
(Anytime meat is under $2 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $2 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices. This is also true for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | a href=”https://www.dominicks.com”>Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.

CVS has been running a “Spend $30, Get $10” sale on a variety of products… and this deal hasn’t really grabbed me over the past few weeks. But this week, if you’re a Tide or Gain fan, this would be a good week to buy it. 48-64-load bottles of Tide and Gain are $11.97 each. Buy three and get a $10 gasoline gift card.
The 7/3 PG has a .50 coupon, and the 6/5 PG has a .35 coupon for Tide. The 7/10 RP has a .50 coupon for Gain.
With three .50 coupons, buy 3 bottles. Pay $34.41 and get a $10 gas card. Essentially, that’s $24.41 for 3 bottles, or about $8.14 each.
Want to do the deal a different way? Buy 2 detergents and 2 boxes of Fiber One cereal ($2.50 each) which are also in the deal. You’ll find .75 Fiber One coupons in the 6/12 SS, or a printable. Two detergents and three Fiber One will put you at $31.44. After two .50 detergent coupons and three .75 cereal coupons, pay $28.19 and get a $10 gas card. Essentially, that’s $18.19 for everything, so you can look at it as about $9.10 per bottle, plus three “free” boxes of cereal.
I prefer to pay less than this for detergent, but I know some people are very brand-loyal to Tide, and this isn’t a terrible price if you like it.
Zantac 150 or 75 (24-30ct.) are on sale for $8.99. Buy one and get $3 back in ECBs. Use this $5 printable. You’ll pay $3.99 and get $3 back, making this just .99!

Zhu Zhu Pets are $2 each.

Coupon books to look for at Walmart: “Bright Ideas, Delicious Cereals“ (Kellogg’s cereal and breakfast coupons)
Policies to know:
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
Will I blog Walmart in its entirety each week?
I will not be blogging entire writeups for Walmart each week. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.
However, if there IS an ad with noteworthy sales or I’m aware of great coupon matchups, you’ll find those here too.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!

Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Correct me if I’m wrong but don’t all the referenced Target Mfr’s coupons print out saying Target online coupon? Is the link for the Zantac correct? Or just user error : ) The Tums coupon I have says $1/2. Is there another that’s $1/1? And if the store coupon for the Wag Milka bar is $1/2 and the mfr coupon is $1/2 how are they free if they’re 2/$3?

Batavia Jewel wouldn’t take the Kellogs Poptart coupon b/c it is in the new format and didn’t have a barcode. The cs lady told me Jewel’s policy is to NOT accept any coupon without a barcode b/c they have nothing to scan. I called Jewel corp and they reinterated the same thing. A corp cs person who specialized in coupons is supposed to call me on Mon.

I see that Jill mentioned it’s on sale for $.50 at Jewel. I just printed up a $.50/1 Target Q for their Up & Up brand on hand sanitizer (same size), so if the Equaline is the Jewel brand, we should be able to use that Q? Correct?

Jill, there is a coupon from the 5/01 SS2 for Welch Jelly for .55 off of one which works with the buy ten at Jewel bringing the price for the Jelly below $1.00. I thought that was a pretty good deal for jelly! (I make a LOT of PB&J for my 3 kids!)

I picked up two boxes of the vanilla sandwich cookies. They were 2/$5. I received the $1 of next purchase Cat but not the $3 cat. I thought I could buy two and get the double dip. But maybe this wasn’t the right item. It wasn’t a complete loss. I found peelies on the devil’s sandwich cookies for $1 off 1 nabisco cookie and 1 milk purchase. I needed milk anyway, so I got that too. While it wasn’t the deal I thought it would be, I was ok with it. I’m just wondering if the $1 & $3 CATS are printing on another item. Thanks for your help.

The July WAGS coupon book has language that reads:

The regular price at Walmart is $7.15, Walgreens’ has the product on sale for $6.99 less $1.00 register rewards making the costs $5.99. I price-matched the item for $5.99 plus the savings of $1.50 coupon making the final price $4.49 and a savings of $2.66.
I am sure that this has been on sale cheaper than $5.99, but I thought it was a significant savings enough for me that I purchased 7 cans which should last me the rest of the hot and buggy summer.

Hi. I’m wanting to do the Dominick’s Herbal Essences deal, but can’t find the “$3 off Styler when you buy Herbal Essences” I assumed that was supposed to be in the 6/12 RP also. I have 2 of these inserts & don’t see it in either – only the $1 coupon.
Thanks for help

I think I saw a coupon last week in either the Target or Meijer ad that offered a Free gift card when you transfer or fill a new perscription. I tossed all my ads and now my husband has a new script! Does anyone have one they are willing to give away?

Not only did I find the individual cans at the CVS on Randall Rd in Crystal Lake, I also found the 4 pack at Woodman’s for less than $4. Hope this helps.

When doing cat deals with Jewel, can you receive more than one cat for the same offer? Ex: The General Mills deal, could you buy 8 items and receive 2 cats for $2 off and 2 cats for the two free milks? Or is it like Wags where only one RR is printed per transaction?

how can you find out what cats are offered where.
i shop at kroger most of the time and have never
gotten one. I must not be purchasing the necessary items but how do you find out what they are????

The ad paper for the July 21st thru 27th week says “EARN UNLIMITED DOLLAR COUPONS TODAY” and “THERE ARE NO LIMITS TO YOUR SAVINGS!”

I was shocked to discover that my local Jewel-Osco is closing its doors for good on August 30! I’ve shopped at that store for 16 years! I can’t believe the signs I saw in the windows when I approached the store today to do my regular shopping.
Jill, I am a couponer (not nearly as ‘Super’ as you but I do OK). I only have experience couponing, though, at THAT store. I won’t drive to the other Jewels in my area because they’re just not convenient for me. So, now what? I’ve never cared for Dominick’s but I don’t know where else I can get my Catalinas and other specials like I’m used to getting at Jewel.
Any suggestions for a frugal couponer?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Responding to Momma Goddess: What I meant was in response to the post from williamleicht where he asked about whether there was a limit on the number of combinations he could do to get multiple cats from the current Jewel deal. I was posting what the ad paper says about it being “unlimited”.
Hope that helps. Good catting…….
