“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

Starting at Jewel-Osco… (View weekly ad)
If you’re not yet a member of Jewel-Osco’s email list, you may want to sign up! They’re offering a $5-off-$25 coupon if you sign up, and another $5-off-$25 for every friend you refer to their signups too…
Sunday’s Jewel ad has a bunch of store coupons in it for dairy products. Best bets?
– International Delight 16oz. coffee creamers are 2-for-$3 with the store coupon (you must buy two.) Stack this with the $1-off-2 coupon from 4/10 SS. You’ll pay $2 for 2, or $1 each.
– Eggland’s Best Grade-A Large Eggs are 2-for-$3 with store coupon (you must buy two.) Stack this with the .35 coupons from 5/1 SS and 1/30 SS. You’ll pay $2.30 for 2, or $1.15 per carton.
Ronzoni Garden Delight pasta is on sale for $1.25. Use the $1 coupon from 5/15 SS and pay .25! If you NEED pasta, Ronzoni’s site has $1-off-2 printables that will net you more pasta at .75/box.
Like Axe products? Jewel’s Thursday and Sunday ads have a $1-off-2 store coupon for Axe body spray, deodorant, or haircare. (excluding travel sizes and twin packs.) The 5/22 RP has a Buy One Get One Free coupon for Axe body spray, and the body spray is also the least expensive item included in the sale at $3.99. So, buy two and stack these coupons. You’ll pay $2.99 for TWO, or about $1.50 each.
Organic Valley Milk half-gallons are on sale for $3.50. Use this .50 printable and pay $3.
Blue Bunny Ice Cream 1.75qts. or novelties are on sale for $3. Look for a coupon dispenser on the door of the freezer case with $1 coupons inside. With this, pay $2! Sunday’s ad also has a coupon for Buy 2 Blue Bunny, Get FREE Joy Ice Cream Cones! So, with 2 dispenser coupons and this, pay $4 for 2 1.75qt. ice creams AND free cones!
No coupons in the dispenser? Use the .75 coupon in June All You and pay $2.25 per carton… Coupons.com had a $1 printable recently as well if you printed it when it was available. Blue Bunny’s site also has a .55 printable.
Orbit Gum is on sale for $1. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupon from 4/17 SS2. Pay $1 for two, or .50 each…
Here’s a deal on infant/baby laundry detergent, which is something that’s not always easy to get a deal on. Jewel’s Homelife Ultra For Babies detergent (32 loads) is $4.99. For comparison’s sake, the same size bottle of Dreft is a whopping $10.99..! The Summertime coupon book at Jewel has a $2-off-$10 Homelife purchase. Buy two bottles and a $1 filler (plastic silverware or straws are good…) use the coupon and pay $8.98 for two, or $4.49 each (plus a “free” filler.)
You can also do a similar deal on Homelife Charcoal. It’s also on sale this week for $4.99 a bag. Buy 2 bags plus a $1 “filler” and pay $8.98 for two after coupon, plus that free filler item.
Jewel’s running a “Buy 5 and they’re $1.75 each” sale on General Mills cereals and snacks. Note that the Catalina for FREE Milk ($4.50 value) has also still been printing when you buy 5 items, which is a super bonus! Here are your products and matchups: Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks – $1.75 General Mills Cereals – $1.75 General Mills Snack Mixes – $1.75 Nature Valley Granola Bars – $1.75 |
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Moneymaker Gift Card Deal EXTENDED through 6/22 Jewel is running a “Buy $100 worth of gift cards, get $20 Catalina” gift card sale! Buying $100 worth of any gift cards (excludes Jewel-Osco, Visa, Mastercard, and Amex cards) and get a $20 Catalina for your next shopping trip.
This is a great chance to buy any gift cards you might be contemplating… or, my favorite pick from this deal? GASOLINE gift cards. I did two rounds of BP/Amoco gift cards and essentially bought $200 worth of gas for $160. Other surprising gift card choices? My Jewel also had Southwest Airlines, Ticketmaster, and Ebay gift cards, in addition to the usual department stores, restaurants, movies and home improvement centers.

The red Jewel “Fresh Summertime Fun” in-store coupon book has a coupon inside for $2 off a $10 Homelife products purchase. My beautiful Aunt Bonnie spotted Homelife plastice utensils (forks, knives, spoons, or assorted) on sale for $1 this week at Jewel. If you need these for summertime picnics, entertaining, or just want to stock up, buy 10 packages. Then, with the coupon in the book, pay $8 for 10 – that’s .80 each, even cheaper than buying them at the dollar store.
Jewel-Osco information:
Jewel-Osco has a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there.
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? Jewel regularly sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Coupon books currently found at Jewel:
Celebrate Summertime Fun – coupons for beef, alcohol, and a nice $2 off any Culinary Circle Artisan bread coupon
Fresh Summertime Fun – NOW 2 books available – the May book is red, the June book is blue!
Smuckers Ice Cream – has ice cream topping coupons for $1.25 off and B3G4th Free
Fresh & Fun Celebration – Small book with coupons for $2 off any 1lb. or larger Stockman & Dakota Premium Angus Beef package; $2 off any 1 to 2lb. bag of Arctic Shores shrimp, and $2 off any Hormel Party Tray (all expire 7/15/11.)
Smart Easy Spring Cleaning – Coupons for SC Johnson cleaning products (Windex, Pledge, Scrubbing Bubbles.)
Jewel meat deals:
- Chicken drumsticks or thighs are $1.29/lb.
Jewel produce deals:
- Vidalia onions are .99/lb.
- Tomatoes on the vine are .99/lb.
- Yellow flesh peaches and nectarines are .99/lb.
- Braeburn apples are .99/lb.
- Eggplant, yellow squash and zucchini are $1.49/lb.
- White flesh peaches and nectarines are $1.49/lb.
- Sweet corn ears are .33 each, limit 20
- Cantaloupes are .99 each, limit 3
- Whole seedless watermelons are $3.99 each (13-17lbs.) Cut watermelon is .59/lb.
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s (View weekly ad)…
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also load some of these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?
In the June 16-June 22 flyer – “#1 Dad” on cover:
- Kingsford Charcoal is $5.99 a bag (11.1-16.6lb.) limit 2, with Super Coupon. Use the $1 manufacturer coupon from the Jewel-Osco Fresh Summertime Fun red coupon book and pay $4.99! NOTE that the Doms store coupon expires 6/20, so do this deal TODAY…
- Smart Balance Buttery Spread is $2.49 each, limit 4, with Super Coupon. Use the $1 printable on Smart Balance’s site and pay $1.49! There are also $1-off-2 coupons in the 5/18 SS (expires 6/22!) and the 6/5 SS.
- Purina One Dog or Cat Food (7-8lbs.) bags are $9.99 each, limit 3, with Super Coupon. Use the $2 manufacturer coupons for either from 5/22 SS and pay $7.99.
- Safeway Frozen potatoes (20-32oz, Taters, Sweet Potato Fries, etc.) are $1.99 each, limit 4, with Super Coupon.
If you’re on Facebook, head over to Safeway’s page, “Like” them, and request a coupon for a FREE carton of Open Nature Ice Cream! What’s more fun than beating the heat with free ice cream? Open Nature is their new line of organics/naturals, so I’m convinced that this FREE ice cream’s actually good for me… don’t you think? :)
Dominick’s has Ken’s Salad Dressing on sale for $1.79 a bottle. The 5/8 SS has $1 coupons which will drop this to .79 a bottle. While I like to see salad dressing more in the .25-.50 range, the $1 coupons expire on 6/30. Take a chance and wait for a better sale, or miss the opportunity to use them… your call.
Creamette Pasta is on sale for $1. The new 6/19 SS has a .50 coupon. You’ll pay .50 a box!
Dominick’s is running a special on Kellogg’s breakfasts and FREE movie tickets. Buy any 5 Kellogg’s cereals or Pop-Tarts in one transaction and receive a Catalina coupon for a FREE movie ticket up to $12 in value. Here are your matchups:
Kellogg’s cereals – Selected varieties are $2.49
– .70 off Corn Pops – printable
– .70 off Raisin Bran – printable
– $1 off 2 Rice Krispies or Cocoa Krispies – printable
– $1 off 2 Frosted Flakes – printable
– $1 off 2 Corn Flakes – printable
– $1 off 2 Raisin Bran or Frosted Mini Wheats – 5/15 RP
– $1 off 3 – 6/5 RP, 5/15 RP
Kellogg’s 8ct. Pop-Tarts: $2
– $1 off 3 – 5/15 RP
* If you’re doing this solely for the movie tickets, these are your best scenarios:
Buy 3 Pop-Tarts and 2 Kellogg’s Raisin Bran or Pops. Use the $1-off-3 Pop Tarts and two .70 printables for the others. Pay $8.58 and get a free movie ticket.
Or, with multiple computers/printers, you could do a 5 cereal deal. Buy 5 Raisin Bran & Pops. Use five .70 coupons. Pay $8.95 and get a free movie ticket.
Note that the free ticket offer is limit 1 per transaction.
Check your Just For U ecoupons at Dominicks.com too for possible lower sale prices on these – I’ve got Pop-Tarts for $1.90 a box (a whopping .10 savings, but hey.)
Note that some boxes are marked for the Kellogg’s concession cash and the gas cash promotion. Enter 4 codes and get $5 off concessions or gas (it’s a debit card that you receive.)
AND: Remember that the “Buy 10 Selected Kellogg’s, get $10 Debit Card” mail-in rebate is still in effect! You can send in for up to 5 rebates ($50) per household throughout this promotion, which runs through 12/31/11. If you do two all-cereal deals of 5 boxes each, get $10 back and you’ll get two free movie tickets too!
The cereals that qualify for the rebate are:
Kellogg’s All-Bran®
Kellogg’s Smart Start®
Kellogg’s Corn Flakes®
Kellogg’s Raisin Bran®
Kellogg’s Raisin Bran®
Kellogg’s Crispix®
Kellogg’s Product 19®
Kellogg’s Mueslix®
Kellogg’s® Cracklin’ Oat Bran
Kellogg’s® Lowfat Granola with Raisins
Kellogg’s® Fruit Harvest Strawberry/Blueberry
Kellogg’s Rice Krispies® cereal
10 oz or larger, mix or match
Nabisco Mini Snak-Saks (Mini Oreos, Nutter Butters, etc) are on sale for $1. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupon from the 6/19 SS. You’ll pay $1 for 2, or .50 each!
Headed to the Taste of Chicago this year? This year’s Taste runs from 6/24-7/3, and Dominick’s has discounted tickets available – buy them in store and pay $6 for 12 tickets (regular price is $8 for 12.) The tickets are only available at a discount through June 23rd. If you do go to the Taste, the Dominick’s ad invites shoppers to visit their booth and pick up a free “Cooking Corner” cookbook at the event.
They’re also advertising a “Dominick’s Diaper Tent” for families who need a changing spot at the Taste.
If you have any free 12-pack of Coca-Cola coupons from Coke Rewards, this might be a good week to use them. Dominick’s has Coca-Cola 12-packs on sale Buy 2, Get 2 FREE, plus 2 FREE bags of Snack Artist chips!
Note that during this sale, Doms tends to jack the price up on their 12-packs (a ridiculous $5.99 each) and the Coke Rewards coupons are usually good up to $4.99. With 2 coupons, expect to pay that $1 difference between the Coke’s price and the coupon. Still $2 for 4 12-packs and 2 bags of chips isn’t bad!
Lastly, a note on the Snack Artist chips… the Nacho Cheese corn chips taste just like Doritos – they’re good. We were super-disappointed in the barbecue potato chips though – they were ridiculously salty and we couldn’t even finish the bag. (This has been your unsolicited review of Snack Artist chips…)
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Dominick’s is running a “$2 off your shopping trip when you buy 4 Hallmark Cards” offer (through 6/21, limit 1 per transaction.) .99 cards are excluded, so your best bet here is to buy 4 $1.99 cards, which you’ll ultimately pay $5.96 for = $1.49 each (Through 6/21.)
If you haven’t yet signed up for the “Just For U“ electronic discounts that you can load to your Dominick’s Fresh Values card, you may want to. For registering your card, you’ll receive an ecoupon for a FREE 12-ct. Lucerne large eggs! You’ll also activate a set of electronic discounts that are tied to your card for the next 90 days. Each person’s discounts are different, and they’re based on past purchases made with your Fresh Values card at Dominick’s.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
8ct. Safeway Hamburger or Hot Dog buns are $1.25 each through MONDAY ONLY.
Safeway Artisan Garlic Bread is $1.49/loaf.
Orv’s Tasty Toppings Frozen Pizzas (15.8-17.1oz.) are $2 each.
Dominick’s meat deals:
- Fresh whole chickens are .79/lb.
- Pork shoulder country-style ribs are $1.69/lb.
- Fresh Perdue chicken drumsticks or thighs are $1.99/lb.
Want FREE marinade? Many Dominick’s will marinate your fresh meat free at the meat counter, so depending on what you’re buying, you may want to take advantage of that.
Dominick’s seafood deals:
- Waterfront Bistro large raw shrimp are $4.88/lb., through MONDAY ONLY. (I try to stay under $4/lb. for all seafood, but large shrimp typically cost more than the small ones too, so if you like these, this isn’t bad.)
Dominick’s produce deals:
- Jumbo white onions are .69/lb.
- Zucchini are .99/lb.
- Red or black plums are $1.99/lb.
- Ears of yellow or bi-color corn are .20 each through MONDAY ONLY

Meijer is running a “Spend $15, Get $4” sale on any Huggies, Cottonelle, Kleenex or Lysol products! Mperks has a $1-off-2 ecoupon for Oreos, and the 5/22 SS has $1 off any Oreo Ultimate Icing.
You can stack the Mperks with this. If you have three $1 coupons, you’ll pay $5.37 and get FREE milk.
Meijer’s running an instant-savings deal on Kellogg’s Cereals. Buy 4 and receive $2 instant savings. Most cereals are priced at $2.50 – the Disney Cars 2 Cereal is $1.99 a box.
Kellogg’s cereals:
– .70 off Corn Pops – printable

I believe this deal is better at Dominick’s this week with the addition of the free movie ticket.

Aunt Millie’s bread, hot dog and hamburger buns are $1.59. Print .55 coupons at Aunt Mille’s site and pay $1.09!
Need Capri-Sun? 10ct. boxes are on sale for $1.77 this week, already a good price. When you buy 3, you’ll also get $2 off Country Time or Kool-Aid Drink Mixes. (I’m guessing from the ad that this is an instant savings.) The canisters typically run around $3.
If you’re buying women’s or children’s clothing this week, Meijer’s running a “Spend $20, get $5 instant savings on women’s and kids’ apparel. The ad states that this offer is limit one per transaction and excludes clearance, Baby Center and other departments. Mperks has an ecoupon for $1 off women’s hats too.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
10-12oz. packages of Meijer String Cheese are $2.99.

Then, when you’re at the checkout, type your cellphone number into the keypad at the register, and your coupons come off automatically.

- 4ct. bagged avocados are $2.49 – that’s about .62 each
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.
Here are your Hilander and Kroger deals (View weekly Hilander ad) …
Bar-S Bologna and Franks are $1 each. Buy two, use the $1-off-2 from 5/22 RP and pay $1 for two, or .50 each!

Remember that Hilander doubles coupons up to .55 face value every day! You are only allowed to double two of the SAME coupon per day though — additional coupons will ring at face value. (Split your trips if you’re stocking up!)
Readers outside Illinois will want to check with their local Kroger or Kroger-affiliated stores to determine how they handle coupon doubling.
Off to Target

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
FREE Gain Dishwashing Liquid: The P&G $110 Everyday Savings coupon mailer contains a coupon for $1 off Gain Dishwashing Liquid. Walmart sells Gain for .97 (exp. 6/30/11)
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.” I have heard from one reader who used a $3 Register Reward on a $2.49 copy of All You magazine and DID receive change, in cash.
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
Will I blog Walmart in its entirety each week?
I will not be blogging entire writeups for Walmart each week. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.
However, if there IS an ad with noteworthy sales or I’m aware of great coupon matchups, you’ll find those here too.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Mperks has a $1-off-2 ecoupon for Oreos, and the 5/22 SS has $1 off any Oreo Ultimate Icing.
You can stack the Mperks with this. If you have three $1 coupons, you’ll pay $5.37 and get FREE milk.
Were you going to list the $1-off-2 coupon from the 6/19 SS? The M-Perks coupon is for cookies only not ANY oreo product correct?

With the Jewel deal on General Mills products… you said with the Nature’s Valley granola bars you would pay $7.75 and get a $3 catalina back… but at the top you also said there’s also a catalina for a free gallon of milk up to $4.50. Does that catalina work with the granola bars as well? Because if it did, you would pay $7.75, get a $3 catalina and a $4.50 milk catalina, which would mean you really only paid $.25 for 5 boxes of granola bars. Is that correct?
lovecoupons4 says
Not sure if this is just at the Mundelein Jewel, but the 16 oz International Delight creamers are tagged as $1.00 a piece, so less than what the store coupon in the ad is supposed to make them:
Buy 2, pay $2
Use 2 for $1.50 from Jewel ad (takes off $1)
Stack with $1/2 from 4.10SS (as Jill says)
This makes 2 FREE!
Score!

My Dominick’s (Downers Grove/Ogden Ave) had 32oz Santa Cruz organic lemonade on sale for $1.50 in a special display in the produce section. If you have the $.75 printable from about a month ago or so, you can get $.75 organic lemonade! Even $1.50 seems like a decent deal.
Also, there were Power Bars in the clearance shelf for 50% off $1.50. I used the BOGO coupon from 5/1 SS, but on my receipt, it used 50% off the JFU $1.00 sale and I ended up with 2 power bars for $.25 – not bad! Neither the cashier or I noticed the JFU discount, so she entered $.75 off with the BOGO coupon.

Jill,
I had a long conversation with my customer service department at Jewel last week. I have also written an email to Jewel corporate office with no response.
There are NO gas cards available. My customer service told me that there was an email last week asking which stores had them and the only store that did (at the time) was my closest store. Of course, she said they only lasted a few hours after that email and they do not know when/if they will get any more. Also, they cannot offer a rain check on the offer.
I have not received any kind of a response from Jewel’s Corporate Office, therefore, I thought I would let you know and maybe you have pull with them and can get us an answer?!
Do you know if I order the gas cards online from Jewel will I still get the $20 offer?
Thanks, Jill!

I was able to get $100 in BP gas cards when the promotion first started. I wanted to go back several days later so that I could stagger the expiration dates of the catalinas, but by that time, ALL of the area Jewel stores were out of the cards. I called 6 different stores…all sold out. One of the employees at the Libertyville store had indicated just yesterday that from his understanding, the entire company was sold out, and he wasn’t sure if they’d be getting anymore in before Wednesday. I also sent an emIl and never heard back from them. So, I’m glad to read that there are stores that have them in stock now. Hopefully, they’ll be available tomorrow as well.

Don’t know of this is all Meijer or just the one in Plainfield. Barber Foods frozen stuffed raw “Seasoned Selects” 2 pack chicken breasts are 2/$3.50. They are the non-breaded kind. Barber Foods website has a $1.00 off/1 coupon. That makes these 75 cents per box (38 cents per piece of chicken)…regular price is $4.99.
There were no special tags on the shelf…they have a $4.99 shelf tag. I just happened to be buying them to try. They were actually very good!
