Hello, Super-Couponers, and Happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend. It’s important to remember that this holiday is also our time to remember all the brave members of the armed forces fighting on our behalf and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I’m so proud of those currently serving, and I know we have many military families on the blog here as well with spouses, children, and themselves who currently are or have been in the service as well. A sincere thank you to all as we remember you and yours today.

A big welcome to our readers from my Oak Forest and West Chicago classes this past week!

This week’s newspaper contained one insert: A tiny General Mills. Why? Well, we typically have NO coupons during a week in which a holiday occurs. Why? Because shoppers’ habits around holidays are such that people stock up on food for family gatherings… and then, statistically, they don’t go to the store much the week after because they’re eating food left over from the holiday! As most coupon shoppers use their coupons the week they get them, when not many people go to the store… many manufacturers have decided it’s not worth putting any or many coupons in the paper during the week after a holiday. That said, my Super-Couponers know that saving the entire coupon insert, intact, each week means that we always have lots of coupons to draw from… even during a “slow” week!

And, even though it’s a slow week for coupons and sales, if you’re in the vicinity of a Dominick’s, it’s absolutely worth running in to grab a couple “Add Dairy to your Summer Adventure” coupon books! If you didn’t stock up on free Suave deodorant in March and April when it was part of the great YourBucks Catalina sale at Jewel, here’s another chance to get it very, very cheap! Suave deodorant is on sale for $1.69 each. Use this $3-off-2 printable, buy 2 and pay .38 for 2, or .19 each! Remember, you can print 2 coupons here too, so for under a buck, you’ll have FOUR deodorants!

Here’s a GREAT deal on Thomas’ English Muffins, but you have to do it TODAY, as the coupon expires 5/31… Thomas’ English Muffins are on sale for $1.50. Use the $1 coupon from March All You and pay just .50!

Reader Beaner2 wrote to say that 3.5lb. bags of Purina Beneful dog food are on sale for $4.99. Use the $3 coupon from 3/21 SS and pay $1.99! Note that this coupon also expires TODAY, May 31 – so move fast if you want cheap dog food!

28oz. cans of RedGold tomatoes are on sale for .99. Use the $1-off-3 coupon from 2/28 SS and 2/7 SS, buy 3 and pay $1.97 for 3, or .66 each… and again, with the coupon expiration dates here, you’ll also need to do this one TODAY, 5/31..!

Last year we saw an awesome deal on Weber Grill Seasoning packets (seasoning packets, spice rubs.) Well, guess what… the deal is back! They’re on sale for .99 each, B1G1F, and there are current tearpad coupons in the stores for $1-off-2. $1 off two when the price is .99… equals FREE seasonings! PLEASE remember not to be greedy and take an exorbitant amount of these coupons — they’ll be in hot demand as it is.

LAST DAY FOR 2010 FREEZER DEAL: The remaining coupons in the freezer deal are EXPIRING TODAY, May 31. The Culinary Circle Lasagnas and McCain Potatoes are currently on sale B1G1F – get TWO free! Note too that some of the Jewel house brand ice cream products have been re-branded to the “Stone Ridge Creamery” and “Shopper’s Value” brands (ice cream cones and ice cream cups, respectively.)

(Many people have written to ask if they should let these coupons expire and use them at Dominick’s — I would NOT do this. Dominick’s policy on accepting expireds could change at ANY time. Better to get the free food than risk losing it completely.)

Jewel’s house brand of diapers, Baby Basics, are a good buy with coupons! Jumbo packs are $7.99 each. Use these $4 printables here and here and cut that price in half… to $3.99 a jumbo pack of diapers! Jewel also has the value pack (cardboard case) of diapers priced around $16.99 – with coupon, it’s $12.99.

Jewel meat deals:

• Fresh chicken thighs or drumsticks are $1.49/lb.
• Perdue fresh whole chicken fryers are $1.49/lb

(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry, or seafood) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices.)

Jewel produce deals:

• Fresh sweet corn is .18 an ear
• Vidalia onions are .98/lb
• 1lb. containers of strawberries are $1.48 each
• Red or green seedless grapes are $1.99/lb.
• California peaches or nectarines are $1.99/lb.

• 2lb. bags of Wild Harvest organic carrots are $1.99
• Whole seedless watermelons are $3.48, limit 2 – we’ll see better prices on these once summer hits, but this early in the season, this isn’t too bad.

Let’s go to Dominick’s…

Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s currently accepts expired coupons up to one year past the expiration date, so my coupon matchups for Dominick’s deals will include expired coupons. If an expired coupon matchup is provided, it will be noted with (exp) after the date. Also, in Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals.

Did you notice we actually have THREE active Dominick’s flyers for this week: “Low Prices on Everything for Memorial Day,” “Fire Up the Grill,” and “2 Day Sale – Memorial Day.” The last one cracked me up because the back page of the flyer states, “Prices effective 6am Sunday, May 30 through midnight, Saturday June 5, 2010.” (Could you be more confusing, Dominick’s?)

• Tide Stain Release is FREE this week after this great coupon deal! Head to www.pgesaver.com and load the $3 ecoupon for Tide Stain Release. Cut the $3 coupon for Tide Stain Release from 5/2 PG. Stack those with the $5.99 Super Coupon in the weekly Dominick’s ad — and with $6 in coupon value on a $5.99 item… it’s FREE!
• Oscar Mayer hot dogs are .99 with Super Coupon, limit 5. Use any of many $1-off-2 coupons for Oscar Mayer and take these home for .50 each! Coupons: printable, 5/16 SS

Here’s a fun deal on Ziploc containers! They’re on sale for $1.99 each when you buy 4. You’ll get two $2 Catalinas back when you buy 4 too — that knocks them down to $1 each! Use coupons to make this even better – there are $1.50-off-2 coupons in 5/16 SS, 3/21 SS (exp), 2/21 SS1 (exp), 1/10 SS (exp), 11/15/09 SS (exp). With 2 coupons, pay $4.96 and get $4 back! That’s less than a dollar for FOUR! This one’s scheduled to run through 6/18.

$25/$10 Picnic Time Catalina Purchase $25 worth of participating picnic products and get a $10 Catalina! (Through 6/10) Note that the ad and spreadsheet specify that this deal is AFTER all coupons (store, manufacturer, and ecoupon.) This is not true – only store coupons affect the Catalina, meaning the post-store-coupon price is what you’ll use to count to $25. However, if you’re not comfortable doing this deal because of this stipulation, just be aware that if for any reason your Catalina doesn’t print, the store isn’t likely to make it right for you if you use coupons. Snuggle fabric softener is on sale for $3.99 each when you buy 2 or more at a time (through June 30 – LONG sale!) Buy two and use two of the $3 Snuggle coupons from 3/28 RP or 10/4/09 RP (exp) and pay just .99!

If you go to Dominick’s, look for displays with coupon booklets in them:

Shrek-Tacluar Savings – $10 worth of General Mills coupons – all expire 6/13/10

O Organics – brochure card with “$1 off any O Organics Item” coupons in the store, expiring 12/31/10! These are GREAT coupons for products like organic milk and produce

$25 May and/or June Coupon Book – $25 worth of manufacturer coupons for many products, expiring 6/1-6/30/10

Add Dairy to your Summer Adventure – $26 worth of manufacturer AND store coupons for many dairy products, expiring 7/14-7/24/10

Dominick’s meat deals:

• Fresh boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs are $1.99/lb.
• Fresh chicken drumsticks, thighs or leg quarters are $1.29/lb.
• St.Louis style pre-marinated and cooked smokehouse red ribs are $5.99 a slab with Super Coupon. If you printed any $2 off coupons for the ribs from Dominicks.com in previous weeks, this would be an excellent week to use them.

Dominick’s produce deals:

• Yellow, white and bi-color corn is .20 an ear
• Vidalia onions are .99/lb.

AND… if you have the 2010 Entertainment Book, don’t forget that there are four $5 off $50 coupons inside the front cover too. These have staggering dates (two expired in the first quarters of 2010) and the next $5-off-$50 expires 7/31.

If you haven’t ordered the Entertainment Book for this year, it’s also a great buy — Entertainment just reduced these to $15 each with FREE shipping! They do quickly pay for themselves if you like local coupons for restaurants, attractions, and even travel. The Chicago book contains over $18,000 worth of coupons (yes, you read that right!) Worth checking out! Walgreens is still selling these for $25 each, so $15 is a great price.

*A note on Dominick’s Super Coupons:

What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases after your Club Card discount is applied. 16oz. Coffee-Mate is on sale for .99. If you have the $1 coupons from the “Add Dairy to Your Summer Adventure” coupon book found at Dominick’s, they’re FREE! There are also .75 off – printables on Coffee-Mate’s site that will make these just .24. Thanks to reader Jewelover for spotting this deal…

UPDATE: This may NOT start until Thursday in this market – one of our regular readers, Prea, went to check it out today. It could be an IN/MI deal at this point…

Aunt Millie’s bread, hot dog or hamburger buns are on sale for $2.69, Buy One Get TWO free! Use coupons to make this even better. Some editions of the paper have .55 off coupons for Aunt Millie’s in 5/16 RP and 4/18 RP.

Ball Park Franks are on sale for .79 a package. Buy 2 and use the .75-off-2 coupon from 5/2 RP. You’ll pay .84 for 2, or .42 each!

Half-gallons of Smart Balance milk are a steal! They’re on sale for $2.99. Use the $1.50 manufacturer coupon from 5/23 RP and stack it with the $1 Meijer store coupon on mealbox.meijer.com. You’ll pay .49 a carton after all coupons!

Deals continuing from past weeks:

Here’s a deal on barbecue sauce AND corn on the cob! Buy 3 bottles of either Kraft or Bull’s Eye barbecue sauce between now and June 16th and get EIGHT FREE ears of corn on the cob! There are also Meijer STORE coupons for $1 off Bull’s Eye! Print 3, buy 3 bottles AND 8 ears of corn are free…

Meijer meat deals:

• Pork shoulder bone-in Western-style ribs are $1.39/lb.
• Ground beef from chuck is $1.49/lb.
• Boneless skinless chicken breasts are $1.99/lb.

Meijer produce deals:

• Florida sweet corn is .19 an ear
• California apricots are .99/lb.
• Asparagus is $1.69/lb.
• 2lb. containers of strawberries are $2.99 – that’s $1.50/lb.

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.

AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES Meijer location, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the store is new, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.

For my Rockford-area shoppers (and Kroger shoppers too!) here are your Hilander sales for the current week…

Honestly, Hilander is REALLY light on deals this week, which isn’t at all unusual in a week following a holiday.

Chi-Chi’s Salsa is on sale for $1 a jar. Use the $1-off-2 coupon from 5/23 SS, buy 2 and pay $1 for 2, or .50 each…

Deals continuing from last week:

McCormick GrillMates seasoning mixes are on sale AGAIN! This time, they’re on sale for $1.25 each. Use the $1 coupon from 4/25 RP, or the .50 coupon from 4/18 RP, which will double to $1, and you’ll pay just a quarter!

Hilander meat deals:

• Whole chicken fryers are .98/lb
• Chicken drumsticks or thighs are $1.19/lb.
• Pork chops are $1.79/lb.
• Pork steak or Western-style pork ribs are $1.79/lb.
• Ground chuck is $1.89/lb.
• Tyson boneless, skinless chicken breasts or tenderloins are $1.89/lb.

Hilander produce deals:

• Florida sweet corn is $1 for 6 ears
• Vidalia onions are .97/lb.
• California peaches are $1.68/lb.
• 16oz. tubs of strawberries are $2

Remember too that Hilander doubles coupons up to .55 face value every day! You are only allowed to double two of the SAME coupon per day though — additional coupons will ring at face value. (Split your trips if you’re stocking up!)

Readers outside Illinois will want to check with their local Kroger or Kroger-affiliated stores to determine how they handle coupon doubling.

Here’s a fun deal on Fiber One Yogurt! It’s part of a “Buy 5, get a $5 Target Gift Card” deal. Fiber One Yogurt 4-packs are priced at $2.04 at most stores. With coupons, this becomes an amazing deal! Ideally, we want to use a $1 coupon for each of our 5 packages. Print 2 $1 coupons here. And then, print another 2 $1 coupons here. If you have access to another computer, a fifth $1 coupon sweetens this perfectly, but if not, the 5/16 SS has a .50 coupon too.

With five $1 coupons, you’ll pay $5.20 and get a $5 gift card! .20 for 5 4-pack yogurts is .04 each! With four $1 coupons and one .50 coupon, you’ll pay $5.70 and get $5 back — .70 for 4 4-packs is .14 each! WOW!

Sobe LifeWater is a good deal this week. It’s on sale for $1 a bottle. Buy 10 bottles and get a $5 Target gift card! Let’s use coupons to make this even better… print two Buy 1, Get 1 Free coupons. Then print a .50 off Target coupon. With these 3 coupons, pay $7.50 and get $5 back – $2.50 for 10 bottles of SoBe is .25 each!

If you have access to multiple computers, with 4 manufacturer coupons, pay $5.50 and get $5 back… .50 for 10 is .5 each… and you get the idea :)

SOME editions of the 5/16 RP contained a Target store coupon for $1 off any Bounty paper towels. Single rolls of Bounty Basic sell for .99 at most Targets! Get a roll free!
