“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel-Osco… (View weekly ad)
Jewel’s Thursday ad again has a bunch of STORE coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons! Many feature Pepsi and Frito-Lay products, which line up nicely to the coupons in the 5/1 PEPSI insert. (If you did not get this insert, you may be able to print some of the coupons at this link.
Best matchups?
Quaker Cereals (18-22oz – BIG boxes) are $1.99 each with Jewel store coupon. Grab two more Jewel flyers in the store for the store coupons. Buy 3 Quaker Cap n’ Crunch or Quaker Life (mix & match is fine) and use the $2-off-3 manufacturer coupon. You’ll pay $3.97 for 3 boxes, or about $1.32 a box…
As an aside… did you happen to notice that on page 7 of the Thursday Jewel ad, their Jewel-store-brand version of Life cereal is $2.39 for a 15oz. box? The name brand is $1.99 for an 18oz. box even without a coupon! Don’t you love those “money-saving” stories in the news that advise “just buy all store brands?” Furthest thing from the truth :)
Sun Chips and Tostitos (9-13oz.) are 2-for-$4 with Jewel store coupon. (Note that you have to buy 2 Sun Chips OR 2 Tostitos – NO mix or match, according to the coupon.) For a Tostitos deal, use the $1 off Tostitos coupon in the 5/1 PEPSI. If you have two $1 coupons, you’ll nab these for $1 a bag. For a Sun Chips deal, use the $2-off-2 Sun Chips coupon from 5/1 PEPSI, and also pay $1 per bag. BUT, also clip the “Free Sierra Mist 2 Liter With Purchase of any Sun Chips” coupon from the 5/1 PEPSI and get some free pop too!
Tropicana or Trop50 (28-59oz.) are 2-for-$5 with Jewel store coupon. There’s a $2-off-3 coupon in the 5/1 PEPSI. With the even-odd numbers discrepancy here, the best way to do this deal is if you have multiple 5/1 PEPSI inserts. With two Tropicana coupons, grab two more Jewel flyers in the store. Buy SIX Tropicana juices and use three 2-for-$5 store coupons (now $15.) Use two $2-off-3 manufacturer coupons (now $11 for 6) and that works out to $1.83 each – great price for juice! (Of course, now you have to rearrange your fridge to hold 6 OJs :)
Lipton Iced Tea 12-packs (16.9oz. bottles) are 2-for-$9 with Jewel store coupon. Use the $2-off-2 manufacturer coupon from 5/1 PEPSI and pay $7 for 2, or $3.50 each…
1lb. boxes of Purina One Beyond Cat Food are on sale for $2.49. Use the $2 coupon from 4/17 SS2 and pay .49!
Many Revlon products are on sale 30% off. Nail polish is on sale for $2.70 at many stores. Use the $2 coupon from 5/8 SS and pay .70!
If you got the 5/1 SS Espanol insert, there’s a .50 coupon inside for Fabuloso Cleaner. 28oz. Fabuloso is on sale this week for $1… pay .50 a bottle after coupon!
“Okay” cereal deal (we’ve certainly seen it cheaper recently, but if you need it…) Selected Kellogg’s cereals are on sale for $1.99 per box (ad shows Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, and Rice Krispies.) Buy 3 and use the $1.50-off-3 coupon from 4/10 RP. You’ll pay $1.49 per box! There’s also a $1-off-2 Rice Krispies coupon in the 4/17 RP1 for more $1.49 cereal, and $1-off-2 printables for Rice Krispies and Frosted Flakes here.
Don’t forget the $10 mail-in rebate for buying 10 Kellogg’s cereals (selected types – check site to determine.) With the rebate, you’re looking at .49 Kellogg’s!
Another Pampers Diapers and Wipes Catalina is running. This time, it’s a $5 Catalina when you buy $20 worth of Pampers or Pampers Wipes (through 5/16.) Prices haven’t changed since the last deal, and they are:
Pampers Diapers – Jumbo packs – $9.99, Big Packs – $19.99, Bonus Packs – $29.99
– Check Avenu for a possible store ecoupon to stack
– $1.50 off any – 5/1 PG
Pampers Wipes – 72ct. Tubs – $2.99, 192-216ct. Refills – $5.49, 360ct. Box Refills – $8.99
– .50 off – 5/1 PG
– Check Avenu for a possible store ecoupon to stack
Jewel frozen French Fries or Potato Nuggets (Tots) are on sale for 2-for-$4 with the coupon in the Thursday Jewel ad. These are 2lb. bags, so not a bad price if you need them.
“Buy 4, Save 4” ice cream deal at Jewel Buying any 4 of the following products will generate a $4 Catalina! Here are your products and matchups: Ben and Jerry’s ice cream pints – $3 Breyers 1.5qt. ice cream cartons – $3 Klondike Bars or Sandwiches – $3 Magnum 3-pack gourmet ice cream bars – $3 Popsicle novelties 9-24ct. – $3 Starbucks ice cream pints – $3 |

16oz. boxes of Jewel Saltine Crackers are $1.49.
12oz. cans of Jewel Frozen Apple Juice concentrate are $1.
100ct. Jewel Tea Bags are $2.79.
Orv’s frozen pizzas are 5-for-$10, or $2 each.
Deals continuing from previous weeks:

As long as this still has print limits..! Reader Avenger spotted a printable coupon for $2 off a $25 purchase at Jewel!
Jewel-Osco information:
Jewel-Osco has a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there.
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too.
Coupon books currently found at Jewel:
Fresh & Fun Celebration – Small book with coupons for $2 off any 1lb. or larger Stockman & Dakota Premium Angus Beef package; $2 off any 1 to 2lb. bag of Arctic Shores shrimp, and $2 off any Hormel Party Tray (all expire 7/15/11.)
Smart Easy Spring Cleaning – Coupons for SC Johnson cleaning products (Windex, Pledge, Scrubbing Bubbles.)
Jewel meat deals:
- 16oz. packages of Perdue 93% lean ground turkey are $3.99, Buy One Get One Free – buy two and it’s just under $2/lb.
Jewel seafood deals:
- Swai fillets are $3.99/lb.
Jewel produce deals:
- Baking potatoes are .69/lb.
- White or red onions are .99/lb.
- 3lb. bags of Gala, Granny Smith or Red Delicious apples are $2.99 – about $1/lb.
- Broccoli crowns or cauliflower are $1.29/lb.
- 1lb. containers of Driscoll’s strawberries are $1.99
- Tomatoes on the vine are $1.99/lb.
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s (View weekly ad)…
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also load some of these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?
In the May 4 Chicago Tribune and Northwest Herald (food sections – may have appeared in other local papers as well) – “Every Shopping Trip Costs Less!” at the top of the page:
- $10 off a grocery purchase of $50 or more – valid through 5/11
- Hunt’s Tomato Sauce cans (8ox.) are .39 each, limit 8, with Super Coupon. Buy 5 and use the “Buy 4, get 1 Free” coupon from the ConAgra “Rediscover Family” coupon book (home mailer.) You’ll pay $1.56 for 5 cans, or about .31 each.
- Safeway Artisan All butter Pound Cake (which is 14 ounces, sadly, short of a pound) is $1.49.
In the May 5-May 11 flyer – “New Deals Every Week” on cover:
- Arm & Hammer 20lb. scoop cat litter is $5.99, limit 3, with Super Coupon. Use the $3 coupon from September 2010 All You and pay $2.99!
- Ziploc bags are $1.49 each, limit 2, with Super Coupon. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupon from 4/3 SS. You’ll pay $1.98 for two, or .99 each…
Dominick’s is running a “Buy 4, Save $4” sale on juices. You MUST buy 4 to receive the prices shown. Here are your products:
Mott’s Apple Juice (64oz.) – $1.99
Ocean Spray Cranberry Cocktail (64oz.) – $1.99
V8 Fusion (46-64oz.) – $1.99
Welch’s Grape Juice (46-64oz.) – $1.99
– .75 off – 4/17 SS2
Selected Kellogg’s cereals, including Frosted Flakes (14oz.) are on sale for $1.88. Buy 3 and use the $1.50-off-3 coupon from 4/10 RP. You’ll pay $1.38 per box! There’s also a $1-off-2 printable for Frosted Flakes here.
Don’t forget the $10 mail-in rebate for buying 10 Kellogg’s cereals (selected types – check site to determine.) With the rebate, you’re looking at .38 Kellogg’s!
Ecoupons on Dominicks.com worth checking out: Just for U launched new offers this week (found under “Personalized Offers” at Dominicks.com’s Just For U.) The new offers are valid through 9/14/2011, and you do need to load them to your Fresh Values card to activate them.
Also, remember to look through your offers for any FREE products. Over the past few weeks, many readers (and myself!) have found ecoupons for random free products in Just For U.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
12-packs of Refreshe pop are $1.88 each.
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Dominick’s is running a “Buy $50 worth of gift cards, get $10 Grocery Catalina” sale! I love these deals because you’re basically getting a $50 gift card for $40 (provided you have $10 worth of groceries to buy in the future at Doms, that is…)
The ad shows gift cards for Barnes & Noble, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Starbucks, JCPenney, and Nordstrom. Catalina deal ends 5/10, so you have one more day to purchase…
________________________________________
Cards priced at $1.99 and up are involved in a Catalina deal – buy 3 and get a $5 store Catalina. Three $1.99 cards will cost $5.97 and you’ll get $5 back – three cards for .97! Look in the store for a free purse holder too when you buy 3 cards (it’s in the ad as well.) This deal also ends 5/10.
If you haven’t yet signed up for the “Just For U“ electronic discounts that you can load to your Dominick’s Fresh Values card, you may want to. For registering your card, you’ll receive an ecoupon for a FREE 12-ct. Lucerne large eggs! You’ll also activate a set of electronic discounts that are tied to your card for the next 90 days. Each person’s discounts are different, and they’re based on past purchases made with your Fresh Values card at Dominick’s.
Dominick’s meat deals:
- Fresh Perdue chicken drumsticks, thighs and cut-up whole chickens are $1.99/lb.
Want FREE marinade? Many Dominick’s will marinate your fresh meat free at the meat counter, so depending on what you’re buying, you may want to take advantage of that.
Dominick’s produce deals:
- 3lb. bags of yellow onions are $1.99 – that’s .66/lb.
- Gala or Red Delicious apples are .99/lb.
- 1lb. containers of strawberries are $1.50 each – shown in television ad that began airing 5/8
- Sweet corn is .33 an ear
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area: (View weekly ad)…
1lb. boxes of Purina One Beyond Cat Food are on sale for $2. Use the $2 coupon from 4/17 SS2 and they’re FREE!
Meijer’s also running a “Buy $30, Save $5 Instantly” sale on many pet foods, including the Purina One Beyond.
6-8oz. Yoplait Trix or Go-Gurt yogurt multipacks are $1.67 each. Buy 2 and use the .75-off-2 coupon from 4/17 SS1 or 3/27 SS2. You’ll pay $2.59 for two, or about $1.30 each!
Reader Wendy Cordts was a super Meijer deal spotter on Sunday while my blog was experiencing server issues! Thank you Wendy! Here’s a great one on cookie dough… Nestle Toll House refrigerated cookie dough is on sale for $2 per package. Use the $1 coupon from 4/10 SS and pay $1!

Are you a Meijer Mperks member yet? Mperks is a different set of electronic Meijer coupons. They’re attached to your cellphone number, but aside from one text message to activate your account, you do not need to use text messaging to continually use them. Once you register with Meijer Mperks, you log into the Mperks website and click the electronic coupons you’d like to load to your account. Then, when you’re at the checkout, type your cellphone number into the keypad at the register, and your coupons come off automatically.
Meijer meat deals:
- Fresh family chicken drumsticks or thighs are .99/lb.
- Fresh pork spare ribs are $1.99/lb.
Meijer produce deals:

- Avocados are $1.25 each
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.
Here are your Hilander and Kroger deals (View weekly Hilander ad) …

Nivea body wash is $3 at Walmart. With the $3 coupon from the 4/17 RP2, it’s FREE!
FREE Gain Dishwashing Liquid: The P&G $110 Everyday Savings coupon mailer contains a coupon for $1 off Gain Dishwashing Liquid. Walmart sells Gain for .97 (exp. 6/30/11)
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.” I have heard from one reader who used a $3 Register Reward on a $2.49 copy of All You magazine and DID receive change, in cash.
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
Will I blog Walmart in its entirety each week?
I will not be blogging entire writeups for Walmart each week. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.
However, if there IS an ad with noteworthy sales or I’m aware of great coupon matchups, you’ll find those here too.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

I tried to do this deal already – and the manager on duty told me it didn’t work that way. She said the Clean and Clear are “two for $5.99” – so the most the B1G1 coupon could get me was “half” of that value – I’m going to go back today when the manager I usually see there should be working and try it again. . .

This is in no way a criticism of Jill, because I know she’s working hard to give us the best deals possible, but does it seem to you that there have been very few really good deals lately? I don’t know whether it’s fallout from the Dominick’s thing or the Extreme Couponing, but other than some body wash/razor deals, there hasn’t been much that has made me want to run out to the store for. I have several things that I really need to stock up on and the deals just haven’t been there. I’ve been very discoraged. Has anyone else noticed this?

I just wanted to point out that the Jewel ad has a manufacturer coupon for a Free 6pk of 20oz. SmartWater bottles (up to $4.99 value) when you purchase 10 Vitamin Waters. Vitamin Water is 10 for $10.
Trouble is … Jewel is selling that 6pk of SmartWater for over $7.
HOWEVER … When I tried it on Friday, Dominick’s took the coupon from the Jewel ad, and they have the SmartWater on sale for $4.99 AND they’re also selling the Vitamin Waters at $1/bottle. 10 Vitamin Waters and a 6pk of 20oz. SmartWater for $10.

All,
If you live by a near by Food For Less, you can do your Quaker deal over there instead. I did two deals on Saturday.
They have the buy 10 items, get $5 off automatically. You need to buy 10 items in order to get the disccount. Some of the items that I remember (with prices) are below.
Quaker cereal is $1.98 – 0.50 = $1.48 – 0.67 ($2 off coupon divided by 3)= $0.81. That’s what I pay for the cereal boxes.
Dannon is on the sale too including the Danonino ones. They are for $1.98-0.50=$1.48 – $1 coupon = 0.48 cents per. That’s a deal!
Creamette pasta is 0.98 – 0.50 = 0.48-0.50 coupon = 0.02 overage
Freschetta pizza is on sale for $4.48 (I think) – 0.50 = $3.98-$1 coupon = $2.98.
Motts juice, Caprisun, Kraft shreeded cheese are some of the other items listed.

Walgreens is running the same deal as CVS on the toothbrushes and toothpaste. They actually taped coupons onto the toothpaste, After coupons and RR, the toothpaste is FREE. They also have the Tressemme one. Spent $15, get $5RR. I used the $1 coupon for the control one (it is part of the sale) and paid $9 for 4 or $2.25 each.
CVS
Has a great sale on ConAgra products. I bought 6 Chef Boyardee cans and 4 Puddings and they all came to be $0.45 each after coupons and $3 back.
Shampoo, Aussie is on sale. I paid $1.75 each after coupon and the CVS RR. Garnier is also on sale, paid $2.25 each after deal. However be carefull since the computer had a problem and the CVS rewards for the Garnier did not print. The manager ended up printing it for me. Not sure is the Shampoo deals are good ones, but I needed them.

CVS gives you a $3 off $10 cosmetics purchase at the coupon kiosk. Combine that with the Covergirl sale which gives $3 ECB on $10 purchase with some other good Covergirl coupons and it’s a decent deal. There is a $2.50 off 2 CG coupon (sorry can’t remember which insert I clipped this – late April/early May). CG lipstain is on sale for $6 (normally ~$8.99 at CVS)

Hello! You can not use 2 coupons on one item at Walgreens! I was so disappointed because I tried for the Tylenol PRecise to use the $3.00 store coupon and the $5.00 P&G Coupon, but the register would not let me scan it. I had to purchase a kit kat in order for it to work. Anyone else notice this problem at Walgreens?
aosowski6 says
Yes you can use 2 coupons at Walgreens. I had the same problem yesterday. I was told by the store manager that you could only use the # of coupons that you had items. I had to buy some fruit snacks so I was able to use the coupons. I was gonna ask if this was a policy? Does anyone know? Also the catalina for nexcare was not working.
aosowski6 says
Another good deal at Walgreens is the Schick razors. They are B1GiF. They are 8.99 each. If you like the Schick page on facebook you will receive a $3.00 coupon. Find someone on your family to “like” the page and you will get 2 3.00 off coupons. This brings it down to 2.99 for 2 schick razors.

All I know is, I can’t bring myself to watch that show on TLC. At first I was all interested, set up my DVR to record every new episode. But after watching the first episode and half of the second episode, I don’t want to give them the numbers. Some of those people are just obsessed. It is like a drug for some of them. I swear, it is all about the adrenaline rush, not about providing for a family. I was sick when I saw the lady and her boyfriend with a stockpile of 56 bags of chips, calling her friends to the store in the morning so they could take full advantage. Or even worse, the woman with a stockpile of diapers, WHO DOESN’T EVEN HAVE KIDS! I am just getting frustrated with the whole extreme couponing in general. It’s sad, because I was so excited when I first attended Jill’s class, but it definitely isn’t panning out for me the way I had hoped. Oh well.

I wanted to do the catalina deal at Jewel for just the starbucks icecream but also do the “buy 4 save $4. I only have one computer so I was only able to print two 75 cent coups. However i did find a $1 off 2 coup here (https://email.starbucksicecream.com/cgi-bin23/DM/t/nkQr0IF2kh0KNi0EjEv0Eb) at the unilever site courtesy of penny pinchin mom.com.
So 4 starbucks icecream at $3 a pint is $12. Minus two $0.75 coups and one $1 coup = $9.50 and receive two $1 catalinas to equal $7.50 for 4 pints.
Thanks Jill!

I tried to use the BOGO coupon at Walgreens for the Clean and Clear body wash. I was shot down at two different stores. They said that the price was already BOGO and I couldn’t use the coupon.
I know Jill suggests to carry the store coupon policy when you go shopping. Has anyone had success when carrying the store policy with them? I think I may start, but both times there was a line and I would have felt bad holding it up.
Both stores were in Skokie, (Oakton and Skokie Boulevard and the one about 4300 Dempster).

I, too, was shot down during the most recent Right Guard Body Wash deal. The cashier told me that corporate had changed their policy and per her manager she was absolutely not to take any BOGO coupons on store BOGO promtions. She said I had to buy at least one item. So, I gave her back the product and figured, oh well, times are changing and this great perk at Walgreens is now nixxed. I went home and pulled up Walgreens website and printed their coupon policy. Nowhere does it state you can’t use a BOGO. In fact, here is a cut and paste right off their site. “When items are featured in a Buy One, Get One Free promotion, up to two coupons can be used against the items being purchased, as long as the net price does not go below zero for the items being purchased.
Sales tax must be paid for any Buy One, Get One Free coupon offers, if required by applicable state laws.” So, I called corporate and explained that I was prohibited from using a BOGO coupon even though their policy states it is allowed. The man I spoke to confirmed that this an accepted practice and took my name and number. Sure enough I received a phone call from the Manager of the store where I tried to make the purchase. I was not at home so I will be calling him back. The whole point is that WE CAN use a BOGO coupon. I have since printed the policy, just as Jill recommends, and I’m carrying it with me.

On the Xtra detergent deal.. The 48 load is on sale at Jewel for the same price as the 28 load deal at CVS with the 5/1 coupon you can get a bigger bottle for .99 :-)

I did the deal yesterday and got home with a free nail polish. With the 30% off was 3.38 – 1.50 on avenue – 2 coupon, 12 cents overage. I learned from pior experience to print out my avenue once I load the coupons. If the avenue does not take the disccount at the cash register, customer service will do as long as you show them the print out.

In reading your deals at Jewel I realized that I was not honored the Sun Chip/Sierra Mist free deal. I bought 10 bags of Sun Chips 2/$4 sale and used the $2 off coupon. Shift manager working that day told me I could not use my Free Sierra Mist coupon to stack. So I had them remove the pop and I have thought about this for days. I called my local Jewel and proceeded to speak with an associate who advised I should speak with higher management and or corporate. Needless to say the manager I will be speaking with is the same woman who issued me the rain check to extend the 2/$4 sale. I see a light at the end of my tunnel. Your post gave me the hope that I was cheated out of my deal. Thank you!!
Advise to other couponers…pay close attention to your cashier and coupons…mistakes happen.

When I first saw the $2 off a Revlon tool, I went ahead and took advantage of it. When I got the nail clippers, I received a Catalina for $5 off 2 Revlon Beauty tools. Since we tend to lose nail clippers in our house, I was then able to get a nail clipper and tweezers for just over $5 and received 2 more of the same Catalinas! That was over a week ago, so I thought I’d try it again today. This time, I bought 4 items totaling a little over $11 and received 5 Catalinas! 2 – $5 off 2, 1 – $2 off 1 and 2 – $1 off 1. CRAZINESS!!!

I know from Jill that shopping earlier in the week provides more sales, but due to my work schedule, I shop Jewel weekly on Saturdays. Does Jill update her Jewel matchup section to reflect the sales at Jewel on the Thurs, Fri Saturday cycle (as opposed to the Sun, Mon, Tues and Wed cycle)? Also, it looks to me like the Jewel sales insert in the Chicago Tribune is only for sales through Wed., so I don’t know what is on sale on Saturday. Is that right? Thanks!

at full value. I had a problem today when I bought the Trix yogurt. I bought four packages and used two 75-cents-off-two-packages coupons. I used the self-checkout aisle. One of the coupons came off at 75-cents but the second one only came off at 38-cents. Fortunately I caught it before I finished checking out and got one of the watchers to cancel the 38-cents and ring in the 75-cent one. I hope this is not going to turn into a situation like with Target last fall. Just an FYI to everyone to keep an eye out.

I love your blog, but I hear a lot about short and long term store flyers. I shop at Ralphs (Hilander), and I’ve never seen two separate flyers for a single week. Is this store just different than Jewel, or am I missing the short cycle flyers? If Ralphs does two cycles, how can I get the short cycle flyer (I’ve never seen one in the store)?
Also, you say that it’s best to shop Sun-Wed…is this strictly b/c of the overlapping flyers or are the prices lower in general?
On a different topic, I was very excited about the freezer deals that you talk about on your DVD, but I googled it and it seems as if only Dominick’s does them. Is that true? I couldn’t even find that the counterpart Vons does them. Does anyone other than Dominick’s do them, or is that a regional thing?
I know you focus on the Chicago area, so I sometimes feel a little left out of the great comments on your blog since I’m on the west coast. Do you know of any blog I can go to for LA-specific daily commentary?
Thanks so much!
Venessa
