Happy Halloween, Super-Couponers! My TREAT to you? Deals one day early! (Who doesn’t need a little more planning time with all the trick-or-treating happening tonight?) And, with the end of the month falling on a Sunday, many coupons for this week’s deals are also expiring 10/31. You didn’t want to miss out on some good deals by one day, did you? Get those scissors ready and hit the stores before the kids go out later :)
A big welcome to everyone from my Palatine class last week. And, to my new readers, if you’re interested in learning to save on almost everything you buy at the grocery store, why not attend a Super-Couponing workshop? Many are FREE, and in one hour you’ll learn how to cut your grocery bill 50-70%! This week’s Super-Couponing class is taking place in Bolingbrook. Learn more!
This week’s newspaper contained three inserts: SmartSource (SS,) RedPlum (RP,) and Procter & Gamble (PG.)
Now… ready for your Deals of the Week? You may enjoy bargain-priced Fuze beverages, .42 RedGold tomatoes, .99 Glucerna cereal, $1.49 Xtra laundry detergent, $1.32 Tombstone pizzas, .99 Juicy Juice, $1.99 O Organics milk, .20/lb. Russet potatoes, $2.99 bagged Tyson chicken, .49 Chi-Chi’s salsa, $6.49 Friskies 16lb. cat food, FREE and a moneymaker Zarbees cough syrup, FREE Ricola cough drops, $1.32 Tide Stain Release, FREE Oral B power toothbrush, FREE Dawn Hand Renewal dish detergent… so let’s get started!
And, before we really get into groceries, this week many readers are anxiously awaiting the release of Toy Story 3 on DVD on November 2. If you’re one of them, head over to www.toystorycoupon.com and print the $8 coupon off the Blu-Ray DVD release of Toy Story 3. Even if you don’t have a Blu-Ray player, the Blu-Ray release also includes a regular, non-Blu-Ray copy of the movie. And with the coupon, you may find it cheaper to buy it this way than to buy the “regular” non-Blu-Ray copy. Last year around the holidays, we saw a LOT of Blu-Ray movies cheaper with the high-value coupons out for them vs. the non-Blu-Ray versions. There are also a lot of rebates and other deals tied into Toy Story 3, and my readers are keeping track of all of them, as well as the best prices on the set in the Forum at this link.

Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Several readers have written to say they’ve spotted Cesar dog treats are on clearance for $1.99 at their stores. Use the $2 coupons from 10/3 RP to take them home… free! Here’s a $1 printable if your dog wants more cheap treats.
Jewel-Osco has launched a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there (and they answer promptly!) They’ve also got the free cookware promo under way, so save your stickers from qualifying receipts to earn free pots and pans.
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too. I’d recommend getting on their list if you shop there.
Coupon books currently found at Jewel:
$50 Kellogg’s “Your Ultimate Holiday Guide – here’s what’s inside.
Jewel meat deals:
- Hormel Always Tender sirloin or blade chops are $1.69/lb.
- Split bone-in chicken breasts are $1.79/lb.
- Boneless skinless chicken breasts are $1.99/lb.
- Hormel Always Tender pork rib or loin chops are $1.99/lb.
- Look for coupon booklets in the meat department called “Go Hog Wild – Celebrate National Pork Month” with $1 off fresh pork coupons inside (exp. 11/15/10) to save on pork…
- Jewel is running their “Fav 4” meats sale again too. Buy any 4 meats included in the deal and they’ll automatically price themselves at $19.99 for the four packages. As always, look for meats where the per-pound price comes out around $2/lb. or less.
Jewel produce deals:
- 3lb. bags of yellow onions are $1.49 – that’s about .50/lb.
- Hard shell squash are .79/lb.
- Organic 2lb. bags of Wild Harvest carrots are $1.99 – that’s about $1/lb.
- Black, red or green grapes are $2.49/lb., Buy One Pound, Get One Free (look for coupon in produce department.) Buy two pounds of grapes and pay $2.49 for both, or about $1.25/lb.
- Bartlett or red pears are $1.49/lb.
- Gala or Fuji apples are $1.49/lb.
- Tomatoes on the vine are $1.99/lb.
- Organic Honeycrisp apples are $2.49/lb.
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s currently accepts expired coupons up to one year past the expiration date, so my coupon matchups for Dominick’s deals will include expired coupons. If an expired coupon matchup is provided, it will be noted with (exp) after the date. Also, in Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals.
O Organics half-gallon cartons of milk are $2.99 each. If you have any of the $1 off any O Organics product coupons (they’ve been available throughout the year in the store) pay $1.99 a carton — great price.
“Buy 3 or more and they’re $3.99” sale ALL of these items are $3.99 each when purchased in quantities of 3 or more, mix or match. California Pizza Kitchen 11.9-14.3oz. Contessa Meals 24-36oz. What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases after your Club Card discount is applied. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (after Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.

Here’s a deal on Kellogg’s cereal. I’ll warn you that it is NOT the kind of super-cheap sale that we couponers love to jump on, but as we have new readers joining the blog every week, cheaper cereal is better than full-price cereal any day…
This week, Kellogg’s cereals (Frosted Mini Wheats, Raisin Bran, Rice Krispies, or Frosted Flakes) are on sale for $2.50 a box (definitely, not a deal.) But, when you buy four boxes, you’ll get $2 in instant savings!

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.
For my Rockford-area shoppers (and Kroger shoppers too!) here are your Hilander sales for the current week…
Other than the new meat and produce deals, there isn’t a whole lot going on at Hilander this week… BUT, many of the same great sales from LAST week have been extended, so we’ll get to those again here in a bit.

- Red seedless grapes are .97/lb.
- 3lb. bags of seedless mandarin oranges are $3.88 – great price
- 1lb. containers of strawberries are $2.50 each
- 5lb. bags of russet potatoes are $1.99
- 5lb. bags of Gala apples are $3.99
- Pomegranates are $1.25 each
Remember that Hilander doubles coupons up to .55 face value every day! You are only allowed to double two of the SAME coupon per day though — additional coupons will ring at face value. (Split your trips if you’re stocking up!)
Readers outside Illinois will want to check with their local Kroger or Kroger-affiliated stores to determine how they handle coupon doubling.
Please read this supplemental post about the way coupons are scanning at Target, particularly with regard to the gift card deals noted below. There is a serious glitch in the way Target’s registers currently scan coupons for multiple items and coupons involved in gift-card transactions. BE AWARE before doing any coupon deals at Target until this is corrected. The Chicago Tribune did a great writeup this week on the issue which was picked up by papers around the country too.
Target has a gift card deal running on 16lb. Friskies cat food and 25lb. Fresh Step cat litter. Both are $9.99, and when you buy two, you’ll receive a $5 Target gift card. Use coupons to drop this even more… 7/18 SS (expires 10/31!) and 9/12 RP have $1 Friskies coupons, and there are no coupons currently available for Fresh Step. But, if you do the deal with two bags of Friskies, you’ll pay $17.98 and get a $5 gift card back — paying $12.98 for two 16lb. bags, or $6.49 each, a great price.
Just make SURE your coupons scan correctly at the register!
Target is running another $5 gift card deal on P&G products. Honestly, nothing here is a great deal at all.
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
In the 10/24 SS, there’s a coupon for a free $5 Target gift card when you buy a 12-roll package or two 8-roll packages of Viva paper towels. October All You has a .75 manufacturer coupon to work in here. I wasn’t able to get to Target this week prior to posting the Deals, but this may be one to watch.
One of my favorite annual Target deals is back! My longtime readers will remember the crazy deal that seems to come around each fall on Glade holiday air freshener sprays, candles, Plug-Ins, and scented oils!
The deal is this… Buy any 5 Glade Holiday items and get a free $5 Target gift card! We’ll be watching this one for the next two months (!) as it runs through December 26th, and many Glade items will go on and off sale prices during that time. The jar candles are currently $2.50 each — we will likely see better prices over the weeks ahead, so this is more of a big heads-up to the sale kind of post. I see some potential with the B1G1F and B2G1F coupons too if anything happens sale-wise within the next two weeks.
At any rate, here are the coupons you’ll want to clip and carry, likely for the duration of the sale.
Glade Air Freshener sprays

Complete details of this sale are in the 10/17 SS insert. There’s A NICE long window of time to get in on this deal, as in previous years the shelves have gone bare off and on due to the sheer volume of coupons available for the deal (and the number of couponers taking advantage of it!) AND, we saw Glade become big moneymakers during certain weeks with good sale prices. It’s got the potential to be fun again.

Drugstore Deals
Zarbees Children’s Cough Syrup is a moneymaker this week! It’s on sale for $5.99 a bottle. When you buy one, you’ll get $5.99 back in Register Rewards! Use this $3 coupon, pay $2.99 and get $5.99 back! Hello there, moneymaker!
Ricola cough drops are FREE with a coupon stack! They’re on sale for .99 a bag. Grab one of the new November coupon books at the front of the store (on the rack with the flyers.) In it, you’ll find a .50 Walgreens coupon for Ricola. Buy two and stack that with the $1-off-2 coupon from 10/17 SS. With the store coupon taking .50 off each bag, and the manufacturer coupon also taking .50 off each bag… your two bags are FREE!
Carefree panty shields are .99 a package with the Walgreens store coupon in the ad. Buy two and stack this with the $1-off-2 coupon from 9/26 RP. You’ll pay .98 for two, or .49 each!
Clorox disinfecting wipes are on sale for $1.99 a canister. Use the .40 coupon from 10/3 SS and pay $1.59 – a good price for these.
Clorox toilet bowl cleaner is also $1.99. Use the .35 coupon from 10/3 SS and pay $1.64.
Trident Gum is .69/pack with the coupon in the Walgreens ad. Stack it with the $1-off-3 coupon from 9/12 SS1, buy three and pay $1.07 for three packs, or .36 each!
Walgreens is also running a “Buy $10, Get $2 in Register Rewards” deal on P&G products (see page 5 of ad.) I’m not seeing too many standouts here other than the 20oz. Tide Stain Release on sale for $3.99. With three $2 coupons from the 10/31 PG, you’d pay $5.97 and get $2 back — ultimately, $3.97 for three, or $1.32 a bottle.
While we enjoyed getting this product free for a long time during some great Dominick’s sales, I know many readers got hooked on it (I know I’m one of them… it works GREAT on so many things!) I’ll happily pay $1.32 to add more to my stockpile.
The 9/26 PG also has a $1 coupon for this size bottle, but it expires 10/31. Shop soon if you’re working that into the deal.
If you’re a member of Vocalpoint and got those $2.50 and $1.50 Downy coupons from their September mailer, you could do a Downy deal too. It’s also $3.99, and with two $1.50s and the $2.50, you’d pay $6.47 and get $2 back — $4.47 for all, or $1.49 a bottle.
There’s ALSO a “Buy $30, get $10” Register Rewards deal going on more P&G products (what a surprise… it’s just P&G’s big week, isn’t it? Use the same matchups listed above for Jewel products if you’re interested in doing this deal :)
“No Coupon Needed” deals:
Mott’s apple juice is $1.66 a 64-ounce bottle…
Domino 16oz. boxes of brown or confectioners sugar are .59 each with the coupon in the Walgreens ad. Note that the manufacturer coupons out for Domino’s are for the LARGER package, but this is still a good price per pound.
Coupon booklets currently found at Walgreens
Vitamins and Supplements – $40 in Walgreens store coupons for vitamins and supplements. All expire 4/30/11.
The Oral B Pulsar power toothbrush is free after a coupon/ECB deal! It’s on sale for $4.99. Use the $3 coupon from 10/31 PG, pay $1.99 and get $2 back in Extra Care Bucks, making this FREE! This deal is limit 2 per CVS card.
CVS is running a “Spend $25 on P&G, Save $16 on Toy Story 3” P&G deal. Note that this is the REGULAR Toy Story 3 DVD, so you CANNOT use the $8 Blu-Ray Toy Story 3 coupon on it. (In fact, the ad also specifies that they’re selling the Blu-Ray version for $34.99 and the Blu-Ray version “is excluded from P&G offer.”
If you NEED any of these things, and you would have spent $28.99 on Toy Story 3’s regular DVD (that’s counting the $25 worth of P&G plus the $3.99 for the DVD) then this could be an okay deal. Use the same coupon matchups that are listed for the Jewel deal above, and www.coupontom.com can help you look up the rest :)
One easy P&G freebie, whether you do the P&G/Toy Story 3 deal or not? Dawn dish detergent. It’s on sale for .97 (again!) Use the $1 Dawn Hand Renewal coupon from the “Home Made Simple” coupon books to take this home FREE!
If you have makeup to buy this week, the Coupon Center machine is printing a $3-off-$15 cosmetic purchase… and other than that, it’s kind of a slow-ish week at CVS.
CVS Tip: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! And, CVS is now advertising a Thursday preview of the coming Sunday’s ad at www.cvs.com/weeklyad, so check in on Thursday…

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

I am in desperate need of batteries and noticed that Duracell is on the UPC list but not listed up above… Does anyone know what the price is on the Duracell batteries? Is it worth it or are there cheaper batteries elsewhere? I need D’s, AA’s & AAA’s! Everything is dying all at once! Thanks :)

Is the P&G catalina at Walgreens pre or post coupons? I bought over $30.00 but my coupons took me below and I didn’t receive the catalina. The cashier said that I need $30.00 post coupons. Didn’t complain-took my things and left.

The batteries are on sale at 2 for 10 and their regular price is 6.29 each.
I have to get some stuff from this sale, as I wasn’t aware of Jewel’s awesomeness until a few weeks back and thus missed the last P&G sale. ;o)

I got toothbrushes too! With the toothbrushes, even though you can get two ECB with your card, the coupons can only be used one per transaction but my cashier pointed this out and just did another transaction for me, easy enough. Free Toothbrushes!
Also, I got some Cold Buster natural warming cold medicine for 8.99 with ECB for 8.99. Free cold medicine! :)

Dominicks was giving them away for free Sunday night (at least the one on Howard in Chicago was). Might be of interest if you’re looking for fresh pumpkin for recipes. They had a lot of them left when I was there.

I did a blackbelt deal yesterday and my total pre coupon was $20.78 and I did not receive my catalina. I was wondering if anyone else had that difficulty. I tend to be more successful when I do these deals solo at the self check out but I had the buy 10 receive $5 too and thought I would just go a checker. I also used my $5 catalina from GM and my McCormick Catalina. I thought maybe that had something to do with it too but it shouldn’t have. I will send my receipt to Catalina and see if they send my $5. I did check my items on the UPC list and all matched up.
Thanks

I tried to buy two Oral B Stages power toothbrushes today at CVS. One came up on sale at $4.99 (Cinderella) and one (Wall-E) rang up as $7.99.
The ad states “Pulsar, Crossaction, Stages power toothbrush or 2 pk. brush heads.
You pay $4.99 WITH CARD – $2.00 extra bucks reward = $2.99 after extra care bucks.”
It does not say select varieties. I was just wondering what other people are finding.

Can you tell me where you were able to use those coupons, I have tried 3 different Walgreens and have been told at all of them they do not expcept coupons with another store logo on them even if it says manufacture coupon on top. They said they do not recieve money for them so they don’t except them. When I was at Target they were $2.24 so I used both Q’s there and got 2 for .24 each.
