Happy Thanksgiving week, Super-Couponers! I hope that all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving week ahead to spend with friends and family. (And before the holiday is here… you’ve got a few more days to chase the deals!) It’s normal to see a little lighter schedule sale-wise all over town around holidays, so don’t be alarmed if the next couple of weeks aren’t as deal-intense as we’ve seen over the previous weeks.
A big welcome to everyone from my Plainfield, Plano and Blue Island classes last week. And, to my new readers, if you’re interested in learning to save on almost everything you buy at the grocery store, why not attend a Super-Couponing workshop? Many are FREE, and in one hour you’ll learn how to cut your grocery bill 50-70%! December’s Super-Couponing classes are taking place in Belvidere, Lisle and New Lenox. Learn more!
This week’s newspaper contained one insert: a SmartSource (SS). And, just a heads-up — don’t be alarmed if you see no coupon inserts in next Sunday’s paper – we typically get no coupons at all during a holiday week. P&G is the exception, as they release their inserts the first week of the month, and the first of December falls in next week, so P&G is scheduled to be our lone coupon insert.
Now… ready for your Deals of the Week? You may enjoy turkey deals all over town, FREE Melitta coffee filters, Riceland rice for .99-$1.25 a 5lb. bag, .99 Nature’s Farm milk, .50 Coffee-Mate creamer, .74 Nature Made Vitamin supplements, .19 Green Giant vegetables, $1.25 Finish Quantum, $1.82 Seattle’s Best coffee, FREE Hellman’s Mayonnaise, FREE Ronzoni pasta, .13 Suave deodorant, .04 Stove Top stuffing, .25 Swanson broth, FREE Airwick candles, FREE Colgate toothpaste, .22 Kleenex, FREE Advil and Excedrin travel sizes… so let’s get started!

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel (View weekly ad)…
Some of you are already aware of this, but some Jewel-Osco locations feature an expanded selection of groceries aimed at a Latino/Hispanic audience. At times, these locations have deeper meat/produce discounts than other Jewels, as well as sales on Mexican foods and items that are again, not featured at the “regular” Jewel stores. These deals are usually featured in a wraparound flyer over the actual weekly Jewel ad.
When I blog deals specific to the “Spanish Jewels,” as some shoppers affectionately call them, I’ll note them in my Deals of the Week with this little chili pepper icon. (I’ve been trying to figure out how to note when these Jewels may have great deals that the other stores don’t, and this seemed the easiest way.)
View the Nov. 18-25 Spanish ad. Note that this week’s Jewel sales run through THURSDAY, Nov. 25th too!
JEWEL TURKEY DEAL – On the front page of Jewel’s weekly flyer, there’s a coupon for $10 off any Jennie-O, Farm Fresh, Perdue or Butterball fresh OR frozen turkey with the coupon and a separate $20 purchase.
This is a pretty good deal, particularly if you want a smaller bird. The ad shows sample prices with coupon:
16lb. frozen Jennie-O turkey – $6.24 after coupon (.39/lb.)
16lb. frozen Butterball turkey – $15.84 after coupon (.99/lb.)
– Get another $4 off Butterball with the coupon in 11/7 SS or November All You(requires other groceries too) or this $1 off Butterball printable.
– There is a $5 Butterball rebate here – mail in for5 $1-off Butterball coupons.
16lb. fresh Jennie-O turkey – $20.64 after coupon ($1.29/lb.)
The price, again, will vary based on the size of the turkey you’re buying – but $6.24 for a 16-pounder is a great price, and it’s pretty easy to spend the minimum $20 (pre-coupon!) at Jewel this week on other items.
GIFT CARD DEAL: Through 11/27, Buy $100 in selected gift cards (AMC theaters, Applebees, Barnes and Noble, Bass Pro Shops, Best Buy, iTunes, and/or Kohls) and get a $20 Catalina for your next Jewel shopping trip! This deal stacks up five time (buying $500 in gift cards will generate $100 in Catalinas) but you can only use one $20 Catalina per transaction.
A big thank-you to Ernie for the heads-up, details, and list of included cards! :)
Reader Jewelover writes that Melitta coffee filters are on sale for $1. Use the $1 coupon from 10/3 SS and they’re FREE!
Reader dhc offers an update to this deal:
“Melitta coffee filters will not be “free” with coupon. Here’s why: the melitta cones only come in 40 and 100 count boxes. the 40 count is the one on sale for $1.00. So, with the coupon, .50 per box. The other “non-cone” filters come in 200 count in plastic wrap and they are on sale for $1. However, the coupon is only for cone filters. Hope that helps someone. I bought the boxed cone filters for .50 per box w/coupon because I think that’s a good price and it helped me get to the $20 mark for turkey purchase.”
There you go! Thanks to both of you!
Riceland Rice is on sale for $2.50 for a 5lb. bag, limit 2. If you have the “Score More Savings” coupon book from earlier this summer (in-store book from Jewel with a soccer ball on the cover) there is a Buy One, Get One Free coupon inside for Riceland. Buy two bags for $2.50 — that’s 10lbs. of rice for .25/lb!
If your Jewel is a Spanish/Latino Jewel, the same Riceland is on sale for $1.99 a bag, also limit 4 – with coupon, .19/lb! The Spanish Jewels also have a coupon calendar available (“Culinary Celebration of Hispanic Heritage“) that has a .50 off Riceland coupon inside. Use this to drop the price even more!
Here’s a deal on Nature’s Farm natural, hormone-free milk! It’s on sale for $2.99 a half-gallon carton (through 1/2.) Look in the refrigerated case near the milk for a tearpad of $2 coupons. With coupon, you’ll pay .99 a carton! This milk is ultra-pasturized too, so the dates are long — mine expire 1/16/11.
Note that while this milk does not state “organic,” it seems to be similar in taste/quality as organic — and for the price, I’ll happily make the switch for a few weeks! I also noticed that at one store, the tearpad had $2 coupons on top, and midway through they switched to $1 coupons. Just a heads-up.
Tearpad coupons expire 12/31/10.
Coffee-mate coffee creamer is on sale for $2. Use this $1.50 printable and pay .50!
Varieties of Nature Made Vitamin supplements are on sale for $5.49, B1G1F. Use two coupons, one for each bottle, to drop this further… the 11/7 SS has a $2 coupon, and there’s a $1 printable too. With a $2 coupon and a $1 coupon, pay $2.49 for two, or about $1.25 each. With two $2 coupons, pay $1.47 for two, or about .74 each!
Green Giant canned vegetables. If you missed these when they were cheap about two weeks ago, they’re still pretty cheap this week. They’re on sale for .44 a can, limit 6. If you have the Dominick’s “Big $60 Thanksgiving Coupon Book,” there’s a $1-off-4 coupon inside. Buy four cans, use the coupon, and you’ll pay .76 for four, or .19 a can!
Canned 20oz. Dole Pineapple is .99. Use the $1-off-3 from the “Deliciously Simple Holiday Recipes” book, buy three and pay $1.97 for three, or about .66 each!
Bird’s Eye Steamfresh frozen vegetables are $1 each. Use the “Buy Steamfresh, get Birds Eye Steamfresh Lightly Sauced or Whole Grain Blend FREE” coupon from 10/24 SS and pay $1 for BOTH, or .50 each!
Finish Quantum 12ct. Powerball dishwasher detergent isn’t a bad price this week if you need it. It’s on sale for $5.49, Buy One, Ger One Free. There’s a $1.50 coupon in 10/24 SS, and a $1 coupon in the 11/7 SS and a printable. With two $1.50 coupons, one for each box, pay $2.49 for two, or about $1.25 a box. With a $1.50 and $1 coupon, pay $2.99 for two, or about $1.50 a box.
Many varieties of Kraft cheeses are on sale for $2. Use the $1 off Mozarella with a touch of cream cheese from the 11/21 SS or a printable and pay $1!
Kikkoman soy or teriyaki sauces (10oz.) are on sale for $1.89. If you like soy sauce, use this Buy One, Get One Free printable and pay $1.89 for two, or about .95 a bottle! If you like teriyaki, use the .55 coupon from 6/27 SS and pay $1.34.
Fisher Boy breaded seafood fillets, tenders and sticks are $3.99 for a 16-25oz. box. Use this .75 printable and pay $3.24 a box (and go for the larger-ounces box…)
“Buy 10, Save $5” Instant-Savings sale Buying any ten of these items, mix or match, will result in $5 worth of instant savings. Prices shown are AFTER “Buy 10” discount. Here are your products and matchups: Barilla Pasta 12-16oz. – .79 Betty Crocker Premium Brownie or Bar mix – $1.49 Blue Bonnet Margarine Quarters – .49 Chinet plates, bowls or cups – $1.99 Culinary Circle Pizzas – $4.49 General Mills Cereals – $1.99 General Mills Snacks – $1.49 Green Giant frozen boxed vegetables – .50 Hellman’s Mayonnaise 22-30oz. – $1.99 Hershey’s Holiday Chocolates (bagged) – $2.49 Ice Mountain Water 24pack 16.9oz. bottles – $2.99 Nabisco Ritz Crackers 12.25-16oz. – $1.99 Orville Redenbacher Popcorn – $1.49 Pillsbury Cinnamon or Crescent Rolls – $1.49 Pillsbury Pie Crusts – $1.99 Planter’s Mixed Nuts or Cashew Halves – $2.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce 26oz. – .99 Reddi-Wip – $1.49 Rhodes Bread, Dough or Rolls – $1.99 |
Scenario idea: – If you have several of the Dominick’s “Big $60 Thanksgiving” coupon books, the Ragu will be a steal this week. With that coupon AND the “Buy 2 Ragu, get pasta free” from the 11/14 RP2, you’ll be able to put a nice deal together since the Barilla pasta’s in too.
Let’s say you have 4 $1-off-2 Ragu coupons from the Dom’s book and two “Buy 2 Ragu, get pasta free” from RP2 for this example.
Buy 8 jars of Ragu and two boxes of Barilla pasta (10 items – now qualified for instant-savings on all.)
Use four $1-off-2 Ragu coupons and two “Buy 2 Ragu, get pasta free” coupons. You’ll pay $3.92 for 8 jars of Ragu and 2 boxes of Barilla! You can do this deal so many ways, depending on how many coupons you have.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:

Competitor Coupon Deals
Did you know Jewel-Osco also accepts competitor coupons IF they’re for a competitor’s house brand? They sure do — it’s right in their coupon policy, but many shoppers aren’t aware of it!
If you have the new Dominick’s Big $60 Thanksgiving Coupon Book, there are coupons that line up nicely to sales on the same Jewel-house-branded items this week.
Jewel’s Shoppers Value brand spice shakers are on sale for $1. Use the .50 coupon from the $60 Thanksgiving book and pay .50!
Jewel’s powdered or brown sugar 32oz. bags are on sale for $1.69. Use the .50 coupon from the $60 Thanksgiving book and pay $1.19!
If you have the Dominick’s “Big $60 Thanksgiving Coupon Book,” Swiss Miss hot cocoa is on sale for $1 a box. Use the $1 coupon in the $60 Thanksgiving book and it’s FREE!
Jewel-Osco has launched a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there (and they answer promptly!) They’ve also got the free cookware promo under way, so save your stickers from qualifying receipts to earn free pots and pans.
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too. I’d recommend getting on their list if you shop there.

- Perdue turkey drumsticks, necks or wings are $1.79/lb.
- Leg of lamb is $3.99/lb. (This is over the usual $1.99/lb. I usually blog, but the per-pound price of lamb is typically quite high, and this isn’t bad if you like it.)

(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s (View weekly ad)…
Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s currently accepts expired coupons up to one year past the expiration date, so my coupon matchups for Dominick’s deals will include expired coupons. If an expired coupon matchup is provided, it will be noted with (exp) after the date. Also, in Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons are being rolled into the “Just For U” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
DOMINICKS TURKEY DEAL – Jennie-O or Safeway turkeys are .33 per pound with a $75 purchase and the same turkeys for .43/lb. with a $25 purchase.
Unless you’re spending over $75 at Doms this week, you’ll probably be better off somewhere else… but if you ARE spending over $75 at Dominick’s this week, go to Dominicks.com and load up the .29/lb. turkey coupon from the Just For U electronic coupons.

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Thanks for the write up Jill! I always look forward to reading them!
I did the Meijer coffee deal yesterday with 3 Seattle’s Best, I got $1.50 cat for each bag! So, with the 3 coupons, it would be:
Pay $9.97 for three and get 3 x$1.50 Catalina AND a $3 Catalina = $2.47 for three = $0.82 a bag! Even better!
I only had 2 $1 off coupons, but still a good deal.
The Starbucks was $7.99 a bag, I used $1.50 off Starbucks Fusions that I found at Dominicks to do a second deal.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I wanted to make sure to say a big thank you to you this Thanksgiving. I’ve been supercouponing since 8/1/10. Since that date our savings have totaled just about $2,400. and our savings percentage is about 68%. Absolutely phenomenal. I’ll be shopping at Jewel tomorrow for my Thanksgiving dinner supplies. In hand I will have a $10.00 coupon for our turkey, a $20.00 gift card purchase Catalina, and an additional $32.00 in assorted Catalinas. I think our Thanksgiving dinner will be free – or close to it. Not only has your program helped out our family’s budget, in addition to the two bags of groceries I dropped off today, I have another large box of food packed up to deliver to our Village’s Christmas sharing program, plus separate bags of toiletries and cleaning products. So thank you, thank you, thank you! I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Kleenex @ Walgreens can be even better if you buy 8. Today, I bought 8 (regular price $1.39) used (2) B3G1 free coupons as well as (2) 50 cents off 3 coupons. (This is legal because the 50 cents off Q’s are off of the ones that I am buying, which enables me to get the free ones; Walgreens policy allows you to do this–I had no beeps).
I had given the cashier the Qs in this order: B3G1 (which deducted $1.39 off for each one; the FULL retail price); then the 50 cents off; then the Wags coupon for 79cents (even though there is a stated limit of 3, it took off the full amount for all 8–$4.80 off). so the total ended up being $2.54, but there is a register reward, when you buy 6, you get $3RR; so it ended up being a slight moneymaker (46 cents, not counting tax)!! Even if your store will only deduct the .79 for each free one instead of the $1.39 that they gave me, you still are getting a good deal–74 cents total for 8 boxes of Kleenex.

If you have the Dominicks coupon book with over $70 in coupons (came out about 3 months ago; blue cover), there is a $1.00 off one Coffee-mate (expires 12/31/2010). Bicycle single pack playing cards are BOGO free at Walgreens this week ($3.59 for one–for the Pinochle cards anyway). Use $1/2 from 6/20 RP and get two decks of cards for $1.30 each.
Do these go lower at some point? I thought 64% off sounded pretty good. Just wondering.

I’ve edited this week’s Deals with regard to the Spanish Jewel sales. The new icon for these sales will be the chili pepper icon you see at the left.
I’ve received several emails and messages from people who felt showing the Mexican flag was inappropriate to note sales at these stores. One reader pointed out that utilizing Mexico’s flag excludes people of Puerto Rican heritage and other countries as well. It was not my intention to upset or offend anyone — only to provide more detailed sale information for these Jewel-Osco locations.
If this continues to be an issue, I will discontinue blogging deals at the Spanish Jewel stores. Again, I am sorry and truly meant to offend no one.

This is the last place I thought I’d see a discussion about people being offended over the posting of a picture of the Mexican flag dealing with coupons and food deals…wow that’s what I’m thinking right now. Why are folks upset with Jill, when isn’t it Jewel advertising the deals this way? Maybe people should contact Jewel, which is who you should be upset with, rather than Jill. Really I don’t understand the big deal, it is a tiny picture of the Mexican Flag. I’m not trying to not validate any one’s feelings, but I just don’t get it. Aren’t there other things to be worrying about? Jill works sooooo hard to save thousands of families money every day and she is thanked with these e-mails. I don’t want to speak for her, but I’ve been following Jill for some time now and I know she did not do this to offend anyone! Can’t we focus on other things this time of year?

Hi All,
My CVS was out of the Oral B toothbrushes and I was going to get a rain check but I didn’t have the sales ad on me and the store didn’t have any left either. In order to get the rain check, I need the sales ad that indicates the item code for the sale. The sale just ended yesterday (Sat. 11/20). I can get the rain check if I can give them the code.
DOES ANYONE HAVE LAST WEEK’S CVS SALES AD? If you do.. PLEASE send me the item code listed in the ad. The sales was for the Oral B toothbruch that offered $13 ECB. I have my $10 coupon and really want to get this time.
Thank you in advance!

If you still have the $4 coupon off Schick Intuition Plus from Facebook, you can use it at CVS this week. I’m in the Quad Cities (IL/IA border) they were priced at $10.49 at my store. You buy 2 to get over the $20 mark, it equals $20.98, take off (2) $4 coupons and get $10 in Extra Bucks back (for spending $20), which means the razors are $1.49 each! Pretty good savings if you need or like them. You can also get the refills with this deal and use the same coupon because it says $4 off the razor or refills, so get a razor and a package of refills on the cheap!
Thanks for all you do Jill!! Have a blessed Thanksgiving!! Because of you I’m able to give food baskets to each of the families that live at the Domestic Violence shelter I work at this Thanksgiving! Thanks so much!!! You are such a blessing to so many!!

I don’t know exactly what happened but apparently some segment is upset about an icon used in Jill’s Deals of the Week blog. I cannot believe that some people are so small-minded as to pick something as inconsequential as an icon used on a blog to complain about. Don’t we all have much more important things to deal with every day? Both as individuals and as citizens of the world? I know I certainly do. Furthermore, this is JILL’S website and blog. What right do I ~ or anyone else ~ have to dictate to her how she should conduct her business? Imagine if the roles were reversed. I know I wouldn’t appreciate such an intrusion. I appreciate all she does. It has truly made a huge difference in my life and my son’s. Isn’t that what it is really all about? Let’s count our Blessings and have a Happy Thanksgiving; especially you, Jill!

Jill,
I CANNOT believe how petty and small people can be. Unfortunately, it’s the price we pay for free speech. Honestly, people, if you want to be outraged about something meaningful, get outraged about the treatment of traveler’s at airport screenings, the condition of the economy, or the fact that we are polluting this planet into oblivion.
Seriously!

Melitta coffee filters will not be “free” with coupon. I bought the boxed cone filters for .50 per box w/coupon because I think that’s a good price and it helped me get to the $20 mark for turkey purchse.

Thank you for this tip! I bought $110 worth of qualifying gift cards and turned right around and used the $20 Catalina on my food. Between that coupon, the $10 turkey coupon, and all my other coupons, I only paid $13 for my groceries – WHOO HOO! The cashier told me that she heard there will be a similar deal with different gift cards next week, but only for a $10 Catalina.

After reading Jill’s deals I was going to purchase the Barnes n Noble and i tunes cards. There was a sign right next to the display stating the cards to buy are Jc Penney, AMC, Applebee’s, Marshall’s, TJ Max and a few others. I asked the service clerk if these are the right cards to purchase she said yes, if you want the $20 catalina. I purchased the gift cards and the “cat” did not print. They did end up giving me the cat anyway but I’m curious why they did have the cards that Jill listed in her weekly deals.

Thanks to your help Jill with the couponing I did this past year… I put aside 50 each of toothpaste, floss, toothbrushes, soap, washcloths, crayons, nail clippers, hair things, toys and things of the sort and my boys and I were able to assemble 50 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We got them all sponsored and dropped off this weekend :-) It is a tradition turned into a mission. Blessings to you and your family on Thanksgiving!

Hi all,
I was yesterday at my Jewel in Bolingbrook, when I went to get the deal on the Nature’s Farm milk, they did not have any coupons available. As you can imagine, the shelf was not empty neither. Has any of you had the same problem at your local Jewel? They did not have the Canilla rice neither. They told me they will receive it today.
Coupons books, are you kidding. They keep telling me they had not received the Kellogs one. When I asked about the Hispanic Calendar one they told me to go to the shelves by the exit doors to get it even thou they had a box full of them behind the counter. Sure enough, the shelf was empty. I need to go to their FB page and complaint about this. This store was upgraded last year, the “big bosses” are there at least once a month, so I really don’t understand what’s going on.
maggie says
I don’t know if this is in all stores, but in my store I was able to include the Whole Grain variety of Barrilla pasta. I prefer these above the regular kind, so I was happy to see I could use them to reach my 10 items. Just an FYI.

Took my coupons to Hallmark yesterday…I gave each of my kids a coupon. My son decided to purchase something for his sister instead. So, they each made a separate $9.99 gift purchase for each other for Christmas. To bring the pre-tax total to $10.00, we added a .25 piece of candy that they each were able to reward themselves with.
So glad to be able to it again this year. Thanks for posting it Jill and thank you to Hallmark for putting it out there…especially during this economy.

the decaf I guess…did purchase three Seattle Best and the total was $17.97 and received the $5 instant off and had 3 $1 Qs….but not a single catalina (tried it twice). Does anyone know if the decaf is the reason it didn’t work? I presume the $5 instant off ends today.

I did the coffee deal twice at the Bolingbrook Meijer and included decaf in my order. The first time I did 2 regular and 1 decaf, the next time I did 2 decaf and one regular. Each time, I got 3 $1.50 cats and a separate $3.00 cat. I used coupons too. Did you maybe purchase a different size that didn’t trigger the cat?
