For fans of ConAgra and their legendary Catalina sales, ConAgra returns this week! It’s a $25/$10 Catalina deal that includes ConAgra, Georgia/Pacific, Dr. Pepper and Smuckers products, and it is supposed to appear in the 10/6 Jewel ad, running through 10/14. As it’s not in the ad yet and most of the participating products are not on sale, I’m holding off blogging this one until the sale prices hit… and things will likely be much better deals.
But in the meantime, here’s a partial product list containing the ConAgra “usual suspects” that you may want to start clipping coupons for in anticipation of the deal. Other products we typically expect good deals on, even without coupons: Hunt’s Snack Pack puddings, Orville Redenbacher microwave popcorn, Healthy Choice soups, Hunt’s ketchup and tomato sauces and Wesson oil… (hint to my black-belters… you can do a 5-oil, 7-popcorn or 10-soup deal right now!) A UPC list is here.

And, coupon confession time… at the moment, I cannot find my copy of this book to blog it for you. If anyone else has it and is willing to blog it, please feel free to post it in the Jewel forum :)
AND… if you do this deal once it starts, SAVE your receipts. With $10 worth of ConAgra receipts, you can send in for another FREE “Back to School” $25 ConAgra coupon book. They typically do these coupon book deals quarterly, and the coupons inside typically line up to future sales very nicely. The form’s also in the August issue of All You magazine.

Please note that the scenarios were written during the first week of the sale, and with the August P&G insert expiring, some of the coupons shown in last week’s scenarios may no longer be valid/unexpired. Jewel-Osco has launched a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there (and they answer promptly!) They’ve also got the free cookware promo under way, so save your stickers from qualifying receipts to earn free pots and pans. And, they’re also running a contest in which you can win one of five complete sets of the new cookware… free!
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too. I’d recommend getting on their list if you shop there.

Secrets of our Flavor – $7 worth of Coca-Cola, Nabisco and Kraft coupons – here’s what’s inside
Jewel meat deals:
- Fresh whole chicken fryers are $1.29/lb.
- Fresh chicken thighs or drumsticks are $1.49/lb.
- Jennie-O turkey & gravy pan roasts are $3.99 for a 32-ounce roast – that’s about $2/lb.
Jewel produce deals:
- Green cabbage is.49/lb.
- Farm Stand Idaho Russet potatoes are $2.99 for a 5lb. bag – that’s about .60/lb.
- 3lb. bags of red potatoes are $1.99 — about .66/lb.
- Organic bananas are .88/lb.
- Red, green or deep purple seedless grapes are $2.49/lb., Buy 2lbs. get the 1st lb. free. Two pounds for $2.49 is $1.25/lb.
- Eat Smart bagged cut vegetables are $2.49, Buy One Get One Free – $1.25 a bag
- Broccoli crowns or cauliflower are $1.49/lb. (Organic broccoli $1.79/lb.)
- Gala or Fuji apples are $1.49/lb.
- Bartlett or Bosc pears are $1.49/lb.
- 2lb. bags of Farm Stand baby-cut carrots are $2.99 – about $1.50/lb.
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s currently accepts expired coupons up to one year past the expiration date, so my coupon matchups for Dominick’s deals will include expired coupons. If an expired coupon matchup is provided, it will be noted with (exp) after the date. Also, in Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals.
First off, if you haven’t entered my $25 Dominick’s gift card giveaway, you should! I’ve got SIX $25 gift cards for Dominick’s, and all you need to do is post for your chance to win!
Dominick’s is also running a gift card contest through today. 85 random shoppers per store are being chosen at checkout to win $20-$25 gift cards to the store, iTunes, or AMC Theaters! I’ve already heard from one reader who won a $25 Dominick’s gift card — when her receipt printed at the register, it alerted the cashier to her having won a prize. If you shop today… good luck!
Here’s a yummy little deal on FREE Butterball Turkey Bacon. Many readers have written to say that it’s on sale for .99 at their stores (note that the shelf tag may not say it’s on sale, but it’s reportedly ringing at .99.) If it is at your store, use the $1 coupons from 6/27 SS (exp,) 5/9 SS (exp) or a a $1 printable and it’s yours… FREE!
Remember the FREE Del Monte fruit smoothie deal from a few weeks ago? Reader SkinCareKathy wrote to say that it’s back on! The smoothies are on sale for $1 again. Use the $1 coupon from the 8/15 RP and pay… nothing! There were also $1 printables and coupons in the Dominick’s September store magazine from a few weeks ago. If you didn’t use these the last time around… more free smoothies!
And, again in the “deals we’ve previously seen” department, Finish Quantumatic Dispenser 12ct. dishwasher detergent is FREE with an expired coupon! On sale for $4.99, use the $5 coupon from 4/11 SS (exp) and pay nothing!
If you’re a Coca-Cola Rewards member, you might have enough points to have earned coupons for free 12-packs of Coke. If you’ve got two of those, this would be a great week to use them! Dominick’s has Coke 12-packs on sale “Buy 2, Get 2 Free.” Use two Coke Rewards coupons for FREE 12-packs of Coke… and get FOUR free! This is a MONDAY ONLY deal, so take advantage of it today.
At Meijer this week, Purina Cheweez dog treats are free after coupon… but at FREE, many Meijers will likely sell out fast. One of my readers noted that Cheweez regularly sell at Dominick’s for $1.25 a package. Buy 4, use the $4-off-4 coupon from 9/12 RP and pay $1 for FOUR bags!
“Buy 4, Save $4” instant-savings sale Buying any four of the items listed will give you $4 in instant savings. Prices shown are AFTER “Buy 4” instant savings has been applied. Prices were collected at the Mundelein Dominick’s. (However, I have some concerns about the brownie mix prices, which I’ll note below — none of them were tagged for the sale, but according to the ad, they should have been. It’s difficult enough to blog these sales when there are NO prices in the ad, let alone making a reconnaissance mission to the store to write all of the prices down , only to find nothing tagged. I’m talking to you, Dominick’s ad makers… but I digress.) Betty Crocker boxed potato mixes – .99 Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mix – Shelf tagged $3.39 with no mention of $4 instant deal, though they matched the ad. I’m guessing the store did not have tags up. They’re likely less than this ($2.39?) with the instant — please feel free to post price corrections in the comments if your store has them tagged. Hamburger, Chicken, or Tuna Helper – .99 Progresso soups – .99 |
As usual, there are Dominick’s Super Coupons* in this week’s ads too. These are store coupons, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. NEW! You can also now load these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them! Best bets?

What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases after your Club Card discount is applied. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (after Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.

- Fresh pork back ribs are $2.99/lb. – not bad at all for late in the season :)
Meijer produce deals:
- Cabbage is .39/lb.
- California red, black or green seedless grapes are .99/lb. ($1.49/lb for organic!)
- Red or Golden Delicious, Royal Gala, Fuji or Granny Smith apples are .99/lb.
- Peaches, nectarines, plums and pluots are .99/lb.
- Honeycrisp apples are $1.69/lb.
- 2lb. bags of baby-cut carrots are $2.50
- Extra large avocados are $1 each
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.
For my Rockford-area shoppers (and Kroger shoppers too!) here are your Hilander sales for the current week…
Playtex Gentle Glide tampons are cheap this week! They’re on sale for $2.99 (18 ct.) Use this $2 printable and pay .99!

Many Dannon yogurts (Activia, DanActive, Danimals and DanONino) are all on sale for $1.88 each. Use any of many $1 coupons from 9/12 SS2, 8/15 SS (DanONino .50 coupon will double to $1) and 8/8 SS and pay .88!
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
Medium dozen cartons of Kroger eggs are .50 a carton – super cheap!

Remember too that Hilander doubles coupons up to .55 face value every day! You are only allowed to double two of the SAME coupon per day though — additional coupons will ring at face value. (Split your trips if you’re stocking up!)
Readers outside Illinois will want to check with their local Kroger or Kroger-affiliated stores to determine how they handle coupon doubling.
It’s stock-up-like-mad-on-juice time! Mott’s Apple Juice (and applesauce 6-packs too!) are on sale for $1.75 each. When you buy 5, you’ll get a $5 Target gift card! Since that $5’s coming right back to you, after the gift card, you’re looking at .75/bottle Mott’s, which is a STEAL. You can buy as many bottles or applesauce 6-packs as you’d like, as long as they’re multiples of 5 — and you’ll get a $5 gift card for every 5 you buy.
(Too bad the great manufacturer coupons from last month’s Jewel and Dom’s coupon books are expired… but this is still a super deal!)
And… Target.com has a coupon for $1 off Mott’s Medleys. If they are included in the deal, you can use one per transaction, and that bottle will be FREE with overage! (Medleys are not shown in the ad, but many times all varieties of Mott’s are included in these deals.)
Did you see the new coupon on Target.com for $2 off Merona socks? Several readers have emailed to say they’ve spotted Merona socks on clearance for… you guessed it… under $2! Print and go clearance-hunting, and you too may end up with free socks!
Also back on Target.com? $1 off any produce coupon! Print and get yourself some free produce of your choice… like the .99/lb. grapes that are on sale!
Lunchables are cheap this week too. They’re on sale for $1. Use the $1-off-2 coupon from Target.com, buy two and pay $1 for both, or .50 each!
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Target has launched mobile Target coupons which you can load to your phone. They are Target store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with. Load coupons here. You can also print these offers by going to www.target.com/save and entering your phone number.
Remember too that you get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

I can’t find the Sorrento $1/2 coupon for Dom’s? Am I missing it somewhere? I’ve looked and looked..must be too early for me yet! Thanks for any help.

I can’t seem to find the coupon for the crisco sticks, whether I use the zipcode 12345 or any other….maybe it’s out of prints already??? Anyone else find it?
bluedemon20 says
Another good deal at Dom’s is the O Organic milk if you have the 1.00 off O coupon. It’s 2.99, making it just 1.99 for a 1/2 gallon.
kstroup says
I’ve been all through the Dominick’s website and looked at all of my Just for U coupons, but I cannot find any option to add the super coupons to my card. I even looked through the online sale ad, but the only option for the super coupons that I could find was to view them larger. What am I missing?
Elanap03 says
Gentle glide in on sale at wags for 7.99 – $2 RR – Coupons.com has a 1.50 coupon and there is a walgreens coupon for $2 off in their monthly coupon book… making these about 2.49.. not bad
lovecoupons4 says
They are $1.79 a box with the Dom’s Super Coupon (limit 4). I used four .50 MC from various sites (ecentives, coupons.com, etc). Received a $3.50 cat for oyno. According to the national cat list, only supposed to receive $2.50 cat for purchasing 4 and $3.50 cat for purchasing 5 . . . . but I got it for only getting 4.
I eat these things constantly so it turned out to be a good deal for me!
dgauger says
Just went to Meijer to do the I can’t believe it’s not Butter deal. And no Catalina’s cs said they ended yesterday!! Bummer :(
Songahm Lady says
The $1.50 off 2 Mott’s Apple Juice coupon that was in the Jewel “fall into good things” coupon book does not expire until 10-31-10, and therefore match up extremely well with the sale at Target. Many of the other coupons in that same book expired in September, so I am certain that is where the confusion came in. :)
Thank you for all you do, Jill!
maggie says
Got an AMC gift card ($20!), which is really nice. Especially after I spent only $1.50 oop for my groceries. :)
Now the hard part: finding a movie that is actually worth watching… these days they seem hard to find.
PS: Today is the last day in this special event, so if you haven’t gone to Dom’s yet, try to get there today!

couldn’t even find a spot for the Butterball turkey bacon(and we love turkey bacon around this house!!) I asked, and the meat guy says they haven’t carried it for probably 6 mos…wonder if the places it’s 99 cents is because it’s being phased out??
pattycakes says
Found these @Cary Jewel, but they are priced at $7.19, B1G1F. Not such a good deal. Will have to check another Jewel to see if the price varies.
HLaw97 says
In looking at the Target coupon site for other coupons mentioned, I noticed a bunch of Target coupons for Kraft items – shredded cheese, cream cheese, etc. I combined these Target coupons with the $5 off 5 Kraft items coupon (Huddle for Hunger), and was able to grab some cheap Kraft items.
Thanks again Jill for all that you do.
mluks says
Some things I noticed…
None of my coupons for Revlon nail color at CVS would scan. He had to manually push them all through. They are limit 6!
I got the $5 CVS Halloween coupon and used it for some cute candles.
The Mars candy bars at CVS are ringing up .50 each instead of B2G1.
Dominicks in Mokena was out of Lucerne eggs, butterball turkey bacon, and arm and hammer cat litter!!
I did 10 Ben and Jerry’s pints and used 5 $1/2 coupons at Target. If you have that many, it’s a slightly better deal.
Before savings/coupons etc. $384.07. After……$121.05 (That’s Walgreens, CVS, Target, Jewel, and Dominicks).
Thank you Jill!
Kluskclark3 says
Does it take 24hrs for coupons from Cellfire to load on your card? It’s been a while since I have loaded anything…Went to buy progresso soup yeaterday and only the ShortCuts Q came off. Thanks!
korgan00 says
If I use four of the $1 off 4 man q’s, on four cans at 0.99, does that mean i get the four cans free and still get the $4 back?

Just a note to those of you thinking about going to Meijer for the Cheweez. I don’t know if they only come in the brownish-reddish color, but they WILL stain your carpet! I learned this lesson the hard way during YourBucks and won’t be buying this kind again!
You can only imagine what guests will think that brownish stain on your carpet is!!
Just an FYI . . .
alove says
Jill, you are so awesome!!!! I was at your Schaumburg class and learned of your website August 15th. I have gotten some great deals because of you but today was the first time I got to roll catalina deals. This is so exciting for me. The cashier was very helpful and she even turned her light off so we could do the transactions with no pressure and nobody waiting. I took a picture of all my groceries. My husband took a picture of me taking a picture of the groceries! hah! Thanks so much! I have to find your Couponing 2 class now.
gaica75 says
I may not be looking in the right place but… when I look up the comet coupon it’s for .35 off the spray or soft cleanser not .40 like Jill has posted. Also, the Comet looks like it’s the powder, is this considered a soft cleanser?
Outlander says
I finally found that Glade Tough Odor Carpet thing from last week deal at Target. If those Qs are still available, you can get 2 for free. Their price is $1.99 for powder, but people couldn’t find it because they were, like me, probably looking at spray which is $2.99. Powder is on the bottom of the shelf.
