If you have the Fuel for School coupon books, work the $2 off bread when you buy Rice Krispies and $2 off store-brand bags when you buy cereals in here too for more free stuff!
AND, a note about the $1 Cinnabon coupons… each one of those you have is netting you a FREE box in the deal. They’re $2 – with a $1 coupon, you pay $1 and get that $1 right back in the form of your Catalina. :)
Jewel-Osco has launched a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there (and they answer promptly!) They’ve also got the free cookware promo under way, so save your stickers from qualifying receipts to earn free pots and pans.
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too. I’d recommend getting on their list if you shop there.
Coupon booklets currently found at Jewel
Fall Into Savings coupon book – $18 worth of manufacturer coupons – here’s a list of what’s inside.
Tastes of a Winning Season – $5 worth of Kraft coupons
Kellogg’s Fuel For School $20 coupon books – here’s a list of what’s inside.
Jewel meat deals:
- Perdue fresh chicken or drumsticks, thighs or whole fryers are $1.49/lb. If you’re on the Jewel email list, you got a GREAT $2-off-$4 store coupon for Perdue chicken recently that ties in nicely with this sale!
- Fresh Italian sausage or bratwurst is $1.99/lb.
Jewel seafood deal
- Fisher Boy breaded seafood (fish sticks, tenders) are $3.49 for a 24-ounce package. But with a .75 printable coupon, you’ll pay $2.74 – good price!
Jewel produce deals:
- Quartered and half-cut watermelon portions are .69/lb.
- Navel oranges or red grapefruit are .77/lb.
- Sweet onions are .99/lb.
- Roma tomatoes are $1.29/lb.
- Tomatoes on the vine are $1.49/lb.
- Broccoli crowns or cauliflower are $1.49/lb.
- Bartlett pears are $1.49/lb.
- Gala apples are $1.59/lb.
- Picked ripe peaches or nectarines are $1.99/lb.
- Farm Stand russet potatoes are $1.99 for a 5lb. bag
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s currently accepts expired coupons up to one year past the expiration date, so my coupon matchups for Dominick’s deals will include expired coupons. If an expired coupon matchup is provided, it will be noted with (exp) after the date. Also, in Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals.
First off, Dominick’s is running a 3-day sale that ends TODAY, Monday, so head on over soon if you’d like to take advantage of the following deals…
Red Baron Pizzas are on sale for $2.99 each. Use coupons to knock the price down even more… 1/31 SS has a $1-off-2, and if pan varieties of pizza are included (I haven’t been to the store to check!) there’s a $1.50 coupon in 4/25 SS (exp) and $1 coupons in 8/29 SS and 1/31 SS (exp) to knock that price down even more…
Nabisco Oreo or Nutter Butter cookies are $1.99, limit 5. Use coupons to make them even cheaper! There’s a $1-off-2 coupon in Jewel’s Fall Into Savings coupon book. If you have any of the (now-expired) Nabisco back-to-school coupon books from LAST year (2009) there are a bunch of $1-off-2 coupons inside. 8/8 SS has a .75-off-2 (exp.) The May issue of All You has a $1 coupon for Oreo Fudge Cremes if that variety is included too.
2 liters of Pepsi or 7-Up are .77 each. If you still have the “Score More Savings” coupon books from Jewel (in-store book from earlier this summer) there’s a $1-off-3 2 liters of 7-Up coupon inside. Buy 3, use coupon and pay $1.31 for 3, or .44 each.
Large Hass avocados are .99 each. If you have any of the now-expired $1-off-2 California Avocado coupons (printables from earlier this summer,) buy 2 and pay .49 each.
Ragu pasta sauce is CHEAP this week, but you’ll need to buy a lot to do the deal. It’s .99 a jar (alfredo or red sauce) when you buy SIX bottles at a time. Use coupons and make this a real deal… there are $1-off-2 coupons in the new 9/12 RP, the 8/1 RP1 (exp,) and the 5/23 RP (exp.) With three coupons, pay $2.94 for six jars, or .49 each!
Doms is running a “Spend $15, get $5” sale on cleaning products — we’ve seen similar sales over the summer. The best deal this week though is on Scrubbing Bubbles in the can. They’re $2.50 each. The blinkie dispenser near the product has $2-off-2 coupons inside. Buy 6 cans ($15) – use three $2 coupons, pay $9 and get a $5 Catalina back. Not bad… but here comes the fun part! There’s a second double-dip Catalina on Scrubbing Bubbles, and you’ll get a $2 Catalina for every 2 cans you buy. With three more $2 Catalinas, you’re looking at another $6 coming back to you — so you pay $9 and get $11 back! MONEYMAKER Scrubbing Bubbles… 6 cans they pay you to take home!
As usual, there are Dominick’s Super Coupons* in this week’s ads too. These are store coupons, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. Best bets?
- Welch’s Healthy Start juices are $1.99 each, limit 4, with Super Coupon. There are some $1.50 printable coupons out here and here — with coupon, you’re looking at .49 juice! Note that Dominick’s coupon policy states that they will not accept a printable coupon for over 50% of the value of the item, but I’ve learned that this refers to the ORIGINAL price of the item, so this coupon should be accepted, as the regular price is $3.
- Hormel Chili is .99 a can, limit 6, with Super Coupon. Even with no other coupons to stack, this is a pretty good price.
- Mission Tortilla Chips are $1.29 per 14-ounce bag, limit 4, with Super Coupon. Bring that already-good price down even more… load this .55 off ecoupon and stack it with the .55 manufacturer coupon in the “Make a Muscle” coupon book found in Dominick’s stores last month. You’ll pay .19 for your bag!
- Safeway apple juice is $1.29 for a 64-ounce bottle, limit 4, with Super Coupon — a good price. (A price benchmark for 64-ounce bottled juices is under $1.50/bottle.)
- O Organics half-gallon cartons of milk are $2.99 each, limit 2, with Super Coupon. If you have any of the $1 off O Organic coupons found in stores, you may be able to stack them and drop this great price even more.
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Dannon Activia is on sale for $2. Use $1 coupons to cut these down to $1 for the multipack:
$1 off Activia: 8/8 SS, 7/18 SS (exp,) 6/6 SS (exp,) 5/2 SS (exp,) 3/28 SS2 (exp,) 2/28 SS (exp,) 2/7 SS (exp,) 1/10 SS (exp.) This sale runs through October 20th!
Coupon booklets currently found at Dominick’s
Make a Muscle, Make a Difference” – $39 worth of coupons inside (full list)
O Organics – brochure card with “$1 off any O Organics Item” coupons in the store, expiring 12/31/10. These are GREAT coupons for products like organic milk and produce.

Dominick’s seafood deal:
- Waterfront Bistro medium cooked shrimp is $4.88/lb with Super Coupon in ad. Anything near $4/lb. for shrimp is a good price.
Dominick’s produce deals:

- Zucchini or yellow squash are $1.69/lb.
- Yellow peaches are $1.99/lb.
- Jumbo cantaloupes are .99 each with Super Coupon in ad.
*A note on Dominick’s Super Coupons:
What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases after your Club Card discount is applied. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (after Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals of the week for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:

“Non-coupon” deals:
Gallon jugs of Meijer milk are $1.98…
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Meijer’s offering a program called MPerks. It delivers weekly store coupons to your cellular phone. Sign up at the link if you’re interested…

Meijer produce deals:
- Red, white or sweet onions are .88/lb.
- Red, green, or black seedless grapes are .99/lb.
- 3lb. bags of carrots are $1.50
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.
For my Rockford-area shoppers (and Kroger shoppers too!) here are your Hilander sales for the current week…

Remember too that Hilander doubles coupons up to .55 face value every day! You are only allowed to double two of the SAME coupon per day though — additional coupons will ring at face value. (Split your trips if you’re stocking up!)
Readers outside Illinois will want to check with their local Kroger or Kroger-affiliated stores to determine how they handle coupon doubling.
Here’s a fun deal on Ore-Ida Steam and Mash frozen potatoes. They’re on sale for $2.50 a bag, buy 2, get the third free (see in-store signs — price in store is lower than in ad.) So, buy 3, and print two $1 coupons to use on the first two bags — the third will be free. You’ll end up paying $3 for all 3, or $1 a bag!
Target has launched mobile Target coupons which you can load to your phone. They are Target store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with. Load coupons here. You can also print these offers by going to www.target.com/save and entering your phone number.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

My store had it for $2.50 both Saturday and Sunday.

Just fyi – the coupon on Betty Crocker site is for $1 off 2 19 0z – 24 oz. bags, and it looks like the sale is just for the 12 oz bags, so I don’t think that q will work for this deal (and I’m bummed!).

Just wondering if anyone had any black belt scenarios for all the great Jewel catalinas? Thanks, I appreciate it in advance.
bluedemon20 says
?? I thought I read on another board that that catalina ended on Saturday. ??
Bernard2003 says
at my local Jewel, the Purdue whole fryers and split chicken breasts are BOGO free. The chicken breasts are the better deal – by FAR.
Theoretically, if you can find two packages close to the $4 mark, you can get one free, use the $2/$4 e-mail coupon AND use two of the $0.75/1 in the 8/29 RP. You’ll pay 50cents pretax for $8 worth of chicken breasts! a superb price!

Stopped at Meijer this am to grab some Glade candles and alas they were all gone already. Not a total washout though.. Did get the rain check and the checkout girl was so nice she gave me a helpful tip. She told me I could call before running back over to see if they had them in stock :) Now does anyone know when this Cat deal ends?

For the Buy 10, save $5 and get 50 Box Tops” instant-savings sale, if we buy 20 items, the $5 instant savings should come off twice….but will we get 100 Box tops? Or do we have to split it in two orders? Anyone know?

Target and Super Target always have their Activia priced at $1.97, sometimes even $1.87! I’ve been using my $1 Activia coupon there for a few months now!

I found the $2 blinkies and purchased 6 of the scrubbing bubbles. However, no catalinas printed at all even though the machine was working. I was able to get the $5 for purchasing $15 at customer service. However, nothing on the other catalina. Is there any recourse when it does not print? I guess I should not complain paying $4 for 6 cleaners but was curious if there was anyone to contact.

Can I use a Fule for School coupon to save $2 on bread as well as a Kellogg’s fruit snack coupon or is that considered using 2 coupons for one item?

Bought 3 boxes of Hefty bags for $17.97. They qualified for the $5 cat. I found $2 coupons in their Summer savings booklets which were located right by the trash bags. Used three of those and paid $11.97, got $5 back. Not bad for 240 kitchen bags for $6.97.

I went over to the Dom’s in Frankfort at lunch to get 6 cans. Shelves were cleared. I asked the stock person if they had any in the back and he said no, that a lady had come in and cleared the whole shelf and also took the one’s from the display in the front that has the sale items. How Rude!!

They only had two cans of the regular on the shelf, so I tried 4 of the yellow-capped ones as well. I got the $5 and three $2 cats. That was this morning.

Does anyone know where I can get this? I checked Wal-mart and Target for small bags/cans and couldn’t find. My dogs don’t eat it, but I would like to get it so that I can donate it to the animal shelter in Huntley. Thanks!

Can you use the $2.00 off school supplies when you purchase 2 boxes of cheez-its along with the mQ from the newspaper insert? I went to the Woodstock Jewel today and bought 6 boxes of Cheez-its and was told that I could not use my 3 mQ’s from the paper plus my 2 Fuel for School coupons, becuase that would be using too many mQ’s.

is anyone else having trouble getting the Welch’s coupons to print? I absolutely cannot find them on the link that leads you to the Welch’s website. And on coupons.com, I finally after many attempts got one to print out, but it printed out with a black line through where it says 1.50 off and has no barcodes at all to scan….ugh! so frustrating.

Went to Jewel today and bought Chicken. Could only use the BOGO store coupon. Said I had too many coupons. I asked for the policy and they brought it to me, but still refused to honor any other coupon, stating that the BOGO applies to both packages and therefore no other coupons could be used. I argued for 10 minutes with these ladies when one of them told me to SUSH. It gets better, so then I had bought 9 of the Downy travel size fabric softners @ $1.09, had the coupon for $1.50 (8/22 ss), had to call the manager over and stated that they would not ajust the coupon because I needed to purchase Downy over $1.50, she further stated that she didn’t think that Downy intended to have their coupons used this way. Won that battle and the whole time she was taking off the coupons, the lady was shaking her head back and forth. Next came the Right Guard, I bought 12 @ $1, had 6 $1.50 off two coupons, when she was scanning those coupons, she stated under her breath, some people will just buy anything. It is only these two ladies that I have problems with every time I see them. I guess I just need to go at a different time.
However, I did get the double dip on the Old El Paso deal, Hamb Helper, Grands, Aqua pods and Kellogs deal. I paid $37.62 (in seperate trans) and got back $27 in Cats. Another bright note, a different lady was monitoring the Self Checkout when I brought up my receipts and she added all my receipts together to give me my stamps. She gave me 10 total. I told her it made up for the chicken.

Would the Vick’s Nyquil or Dayquil count towards the $50 needed for the P&G coupon book?

This is really good for me! First time I did well since I started following the blog 3 months ago. Thanks Jill for doing this!!!!!!

Jewel on Hwy 14 in Crystal Lake had $2 store Q’s on Nature’s Farm Organic and they were priced at $2.99 ea. I got four 1/2 gal for less than the price of their Shoppers Value gallon priced at $2.69ea!

Has the Post-its on sale for $1 this week so I stopped off to grab some. Had to double check Q for size because coupon was not scanning, but it did eventually work with the mrg manually overriding it. So if you still have your post-it coupon go get them free :)

I went to a Jewel on Ogden, west of Hinsdale, maybe closer to Downer Grove and their Morningstar Farms was not on sale. It was $4.79 ea. So, I didn’t work that deal. I went over to Dominicks and did the Ragu, and Scrubbing Bubbles, and the Welch’s Juice. You would have thought I was torturing the cashier when I gave her the coupons. It was so bad that the lady in back of me remaarked, “You’d think they’d be happy someone’s in her buying anything”. Good info on the scrubbing bubbles cat not rolling. Thanks.

I stopped by my Indiana Kroger last night and they had several bins of personal care clearance items up by customer service. I found Dove bars, Sonicare brush refills (yay), Colgate, and Listerine, all marked for $1. I had a $5 manuf. coupon for Sonicare multipacks and even though it was WAY over the $1 price, it didn’t beep!

Does anyone know why I can’t find the coupon booklets at the Elmhurst Dominicks and Jewel? I’ve only found 1 of the listed books at Jewel. I look at the customer service desk and try to keep a lookout in the aisles, but don’t find them.

Looking for some assistance on this deal. The flyer reads “Get 500 labels for Education bonus points when you purchase $15 in participating products.” It goes on to read “minimum purchase requirement calculated after manufacturer discounts.”
My question: are coupons manufacturer discounts? Or, is that the sale price? If this is $15 post-coupon that’s an awful lot of $0.14 (post coup) soup and spaghettios to buy. :)
Any help and/or tips on this one much appreciated.

Elmhurst NEVER has coupon books, blinkies, or tearpads except for the liquor aisle. Wonder why.
