Do you have any Dominick’s items left in your pantry?
On 12/13/13 I shopped during our local store’s 50% off closing sale (and if you want to see some photos of that in-store craziness, just click that link.) I bought $216 worth of groceries and used $71 in coupons — 147 items.
$63 of my bill was maple syrup. It was the thing I was planning to stock up on the most during that sale. There are rarely, if ever, deals on 100% maple syrup.
It proved to be a good investment, as the three items shown in the photo above are all that remains of my crazy Dominick’s close-out shopping trip:
- One bottle of O Organics maple syrup (doesn’t expire until 5/16)
- One can of Safeway fruit cocktail (doesn’t expire until 9/16)
- One box of Lemon Coolers cookies (expired.)
It’s been pretty sweet (pun absolutely intended!) not to have to buy syrup for an entire year. I’m not sure why we haven’t eaten that last, lonely can of fruit yet. And, as far as the Lemon Coolers? They’re my husband’s favorite cookie, and aside from ordering them online, we no longer have a good local source for them. He’s attempted to “time capsule” this box by storing it inside a Ziploc bag in our freezer. I have no idea how long it will remain there.
Do you have any Dominick’s groceries left at home? If you’re brave enough to share what they are, that is…

I still have at least 50 4 roll packs of angel soft toilet paper they were BOGO free during the sale @ $2 a pc & at 50% off $1.00 for 2 there was also a .45 off any 1 angel soft coupon so I bought a lot.
I have 4 boxes of Gain laundry detergent which I think after the .50 coupon that was out at the time I paid 4.75 I will be sad once it’s gone.
I have 4 bottles of chicago style relish and sport peppers they expire in 09/2016 my step son loves these.
I bought many other things in the sale but these are what’s left this sale was both amazing for many items and sad for the employees.

Hi- I purchased a box of Dominick’s garbage bags, which had 80 bags. I still have half the box left. They are not my all time favorite bags. They are the ones with the handles on them like a grocery bag, but the night I got them, I happened to be driving right by the Morton Grove Dominick’s store, and I decided to see if they had anything worth buying, and they had just gotten in a shipment of household stuff such as paper towels and toilet paper and garbage bags. I ended up getting a dozen rolls rolls of Scott TP, but I also wanted to get some glad garbage bags that were there. The next thing I knew somebody helped himself to all the cartons of Glad and Hefty garbage bags, and walked out of the store with three shopping carts full of stuff. It was the same with the paper towels and toilet paper. They were all cleaned out in a matter of minutes.
I also still have some ziplock bags, and a few cans of tomatoes. I am finishing up a package of chicken sausage that I had sitting in my freezer all this time. I finally defrosted it a few days ago, and I have one sausage left. I was surprised how edible the sausages were. What I bought the most of at Dominick’s going out of business sale was frozen dinners. I got lots of healthy frozen dinners for $.50 to $1 a piece. Thanks, Nancy

I have some Pepridge Farm puff pastry in the freezer. I wonder if it is still good. Maybe I’ll make something and find out!

I had two flank steaks, shrinked in my seal a meal thing. One we ate last week, it was good. I probably still have some bacon shrink wrapped too. I’m not very good at organizing my bacon. A couple unopened bottles of spices, two bottles wesson oil, half a bottle of siracha, which we didn’t open til summer. Almost a whole big box of dry swiffer wipes and maybe a pack of paper plates. That’s all I can think of now, I don’t think I bought much canned stuff.

Had almost 400 cans of evaporated milk – down to under 40. Scary times ahead! Still have lots of the majorly-expensive organic skin care products. Almost hate using things up because it will acknowledge the End of an Era…although the organic clearance @ Ultra has been giving the final days of Dominicks a run for the money lately.

Down to my last bag of breaded butterfly shrimp, which we just enjoyed on Saturday. Still tasty! Recently, I’ve been looking to see if any stores sell something similar, but have not found anything.
