You may have noticed I’ve fallen a bit behind on my regular posting schedule this week. I have a good reason — quite possibly the best reason.
I have found it difficult, nay, impossible, to work at night with the World Series on.
Tonight, I saw something that I never thought I would see in this lifetime: My Cubbies (and yours!) won the World Series.
Here at the Cataldo home, we’re a house divided: My husband and daughter are White Sox fans, but I’ve always bled Cubbie blue. When my sons were born, I took infant-sized Cubs caps to the hospital to christen them on the days of their birth: These boys are mine.
My little Cubs fans each visited the friendly confines of Wrigley as babies for their first baseball games. They don’t remember being there, but I sure do.
Decades of hope, disappointment, and being called the “loveable losers” of the MLB led me to believe I would never see what I saw tonight. It simply doesn’t feel real. They did it. They really did it!
While everyone knows “Go Cubs Go,” another song has made me tear up every time it’s been played on the radio through the playoff season: Eddie Vedder’s “All The Way.” If you haven’t heard it, try to get through it without feeling a little misty. I was crying in the car today when this came on, hours before Game 7.
I’m not a big Pearl Jam fan, but Eddie Vedder has perfectly encapsulated what being a lifelong Cubs fan feels like.
Tonight, on this incredible night, we did go all the way!
“All The Way”
Don’t let anyone say that it’s just a game
For I’ve seen other teams and it’s never the same
When you’re born in Chicago you are blessed and you’re healed
The first time you walk into Wrigley FieldOur heroes wear pinstripes and heroes in blue
Give us the chance to feel like heroes too
Whether we’ll win and if we should lose,
We know someday we’ll go all the way,
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way!We are one with the Cubs, with the Cubs we’re in love
Hold our head high as the the underdogs
We are not fair-weather, but foul-weather fans
Like brothers in arms, in the streets and the standsThere’s magic in the ivy and the old scoreboard
The same one I stared at as a kid keeping score
In a world full of greed I could never want more
Someday we’ll go all the way
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way
Someday we’ll go all the way
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way
Someday we’ll go all the wayHere’s to the men and the legends we’ve known
Teaching us faith and giving us hope
United we stand and united we’ll fall
Down to our knees the day we win it allYeah Ernie Banks said “Well, let’s play two”
Or did he mean two hundred years
In the same ball park, our diamond, our jewel
The home of our joy and our tearsKeeping traditions and wishes made new
The place where our grandfathers’ fathers grew
The spiritual feeling if I ever knew
If you ain’t been, I am sorry for youAnd when the day comes for that last winning run
And I’m crying covered in beer
I look to the sky and know I was right
To think someday we’ll go all the way
Yeah someday we’ll go all the way
Some day we’ll go all the way
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way

Now that baseball is over (except for the parade) until pitchers & catchers report in about 100 days, where do I get the best prices on Cubs World Series Champions of 2016 stuff at?
Kohl’s?
Target?
Walmart?
Corner Stands?
Dick’s?

The Algonquin Dick’s is already sold out. Our Jewel is supposed to get it this afternoon — I’ve been calling around this morning and my local Jewel said it’s all at the Schaumburg Jewel and local stores are picking up their own merch there to bring in.

Update: My Jewel didn’t get their Series gear yet, and neither did any other stores in town. We are impatient, but I guess we’ll have to wait! If anyone sees Cubbies World Series shirts and hats in the NW burbs, please share where you found ’em :)

It was history in the making. Hopefully the cubbies have many more to come. It seems my household is the same as yours. I’m a Cubs fan and my little ones are too, however my husband and my oldest son are white sox fans.
As far as Cubs merchandise goes I had seen some at Target. I also think Carson’s has some, at least that’s what I heard but I haven’t been able to make it there and I think you can apply coupon discounts to it too.

We watched with my 89yo father and 86 yo mother at their house. Mom has been a die hard fan forever and used to take me when I was a little girl. She always brags how she shook Ernie’s hand. She was diagnosed with cancer last August 2015 and given a death sentence of 3-6 months. Thank goodness we got another opinion! She keeps on chuggin!! So glad she alive to see this. They went out yesterday and called me from Penney’s in Algonquin. They had ordered shirts that were coming in today. Bless their hearts, they trekked back there today and brought them over for us. The shirts were $28. I think they said caps were $32 and they were limiting people to two. I’m still crying over every stupid video I see!! lol CSN is rebroadcasting the game tonight.

Wonderful news – thank you! I have a $10-off-$25 and a $20 Groupon for Penney’s that I’m sitting on. I appreciate it!

We Red Sox fans know just how you feel. Fenway and Wrigley are the best. Cubs fans, it’s just the start of something good.
