Did you inspect that 12-11 SS coupon for the $3 off a case of Ball jars to see if you think it may qualify for those on sale with rebate? It says on a “case” of jars and not a number of 6 or 12. I know the top coupon says on any blue ones and these are purple, how odd they are so specific on that one, yet the one below just says any case? The picture looks bigger than 6 but I wonder if this would be correct usage. What do you think? Thanks!
Coupon Maven says
I did! Honestly, I am not sure if the 6ct. is considered a “case.” (Obviously, yes, the blue jar coupon doesn’t qualify.)
I wanted to err on the side of caution with this, because yes, it would be an amazing deal on this one.
When I googled “Ball jar case,” I got many results showing the 12-count package. Example: https://amzn.to/2kIOcRr
That’s why I didn’t list the coupon as this is a 6-pack — that, and the coupon shows what looks like a larger container of jars.. If anyone can come up with reasoning to the contrary, I’m all ears :)

I may see what they say since I did find this on the internet search: https://www.goodmans.net/i/8527/ball-69008-purple-heritage-vintage-regular-mouth-pint-jars-case-of-6.htm
I will bring along several coupons in case they allow it. I will let you know after I try, though I honestly doubt they will take it since I have had such bad luck with OBVIOUSLY VALID ACCORDING TO THEIR POLICY coupons in the recent past. I think it just depends on whether it scans or not, since it is not free and only a super price after the rebate. I read some comments on these jars and people are saying not to actually can with them as they are more for drinking out of or crafts or décor. They are one of a series of 100 yr anniversary Ball styles. They may not be solid enough to withstand the heat of the canning process?
Coupon Maven says
That’s probably the best idea. I may try as well, as it’s so ambiguous — I wonder why they wouldn’t just state how many jars the coupon is valid on..! Do report back, and I’ll do the same.
I hadn’t read anything about -not- canning in purple Ball jars — that seems really odd to me. If they’re made by Ball, they should be fine, unless there’s something specific on the packaging to that effect? I make refrigerator pickles every year, and they just get stored in the fridge in Ball jars, not canned under heat, so they should be okay.

Oooohhh … been looking for a good frig pickle recipe. Are yours still crunchy a la Claussen? I have tried numerous times, have the huge pickle jar (like in old time stores), tried using left over store bought pickle juice, etc. Don’t want to use regular canning methods because the heat makes them droopy and not at all crunchy. Hoping it’s not a family secret and you wouldn’t mind sharing the recipe. Thanks!
Coupon Maven says
Not a family secret at all, though it’s a recipe that’s been passed down in our family for who-knows-how-long. They’re sweet pickles, not dill, but there’s no heat involved. They are crunchy for the first month or two, but then they get floppier if you leave them languishing in the fridge for months. We have always said they’re good for at least 6 months, but we’ve definitely eaten them past that timeframe with no issues. I will try to post it later this week. :)

UPDATE: The $3 Ball coupon is valid on the 6-pack cases — scans just fine! I bought six 6-packs at the Woodstock Menards this morning. They had ten 6-packs left on the shelf after I got mine, and there were more on a very HIGH shelf way above where you would normally expect to see merchandise.
Also, they’re definitely canning jars and not simply decorative — the cardboard case has water bath canning instructions on it. :) They ARE cute though :)

Awesome! I did not go over there yet to see. I also want to check out those 9c seed packs. I figured since they were Ball jars sold at Menards and not a craft store like Michaels, they would surely be good enough to actually can with. I bet someone just had a bad batch or did it wrong when they posted that comment in the reviews saying only use them for décor!? I wish they were the wide mouth quart jars though. I actually do like to can my tomatoes and these are pretty hard to pack much in there! Thanks for the update; I always like when we can use both a coupon AND a rebate on a deal!
Coupon Maven says
You’re welcome. I too got some of the .09 seeds. They are pretty limited on varieties (bush beans, not pole, one kind of corn, one kind of cucumbers, etc.) but you can’t beat the price. They are all heirloom varieties too, not hybrids.
Calibabydolly says
Did you happen to see any spinach seeds at your store? I really only need those and possibly some beans and lettuce.

The star wars Campbells soup shows in ad in box of 10 for $4 not .40 each. So would need to buy 10 and use the coupon so not quite as good of a deal.
Coupon Maven says
They are sold in 10-packs, but they are also sold loose in store for .40 per can. I just bought five yesterday in Woodstock with a coupon. I wouldn’t have listed it that way if it wouldn’t work :)
I suppose there is a chance that a store may not sell it this way, but every time it’s been on sale, I’ve seen it displayed both in cases and loose at three different Menards stores (Woodstock, Crystal Lake, Carpentersville.)
