Back in February, I spotted a new product – Bounty paper towels with Dawn detergent built into them. When I first saw these, I thought, “Would I buy this?”
In my house, we use paper towels for so many non-cleaning purposes (cooking bacon, food prep cleanup) that I wouldn’t want to keep them in the regular paper towel holder in our kitchen. Readers and I pondered over what these would be good for, and one reader suggested they’d be great for camping. I agreed, and when the 2-pack went on sale for $2.99 at Meijer with a coupon, I bought them.
A week ago today, I was in sunny Hollywood, California for a television appearance. My hotel was located just a few blocks from KISS’ star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And, you see, the KISS Army takes good care of this star. It’s kind of a “thing” to wash the KISS star when you make a trip to see it. So, as I packed for my trip, inspiration struck — I would bring some Bounty with Dawn to wash the star! No leaky bottles of detergent or cleaner in my luggage. No soggy towels to carry down the street back to my hotel. I stuffed a few sheets in my suitcase (they smell good, by the way, like traditional blue Dawn detergent) and headed for the west coast. On the morning before my shoot, I filled my water bottle and went for a morning hike in the hills… with a stop to scrub the star.
I can tell you that these Bounty towels are thicker than regular Bounty, and they do provide a decent amount of suds that would be perfect for hand-washing a few dishes, handling small cleanups… or scrubbing a terrazzo star embedded in a sidewalk.
