Walmart made the news this week with a few interesting stories. First, the supercenter announced that it will be rolling out a new “Scan And Go” app, which will allow you to scan everything in your cart with your smartphone, then use your phone to check out instead of going to the register. The app […]
Free John Frieda, free Poise and cheap Fresh & Sexy at Walmart
I was out price-hunting today and spotted some deals at Walmart for you. First up, the 2/10 SS has a coupon for $3 off 2 John Freida products, excluding sizes 1.5-ounces and smaller. Walmart has 2-ounce John Frieda Frizz-Ease hairspray and mousse for $1.47! Pick up two free (with a little overage) with this coupon. […]
Retailers accuse Walmart of falsifying “Walmart Challenge” price-comparison ads
I’ve blogged off and on about the accuracy of Walmart’s price comparison ads, but now other retailers are calling Walmart out on them as well. Best Buy, Toys R Us, and several supermarket chains have filed legal complaints against Walmart’s advertising practices, saying that in some cases, the prices being compared in the “Walmart Challenge” […]
A tale of two Softsoaps: Which size is the better value?
I was at Walmart this weekend and spotted two displays of Softsoap near each other. Check them out: The first display shows 5.5 ounce bottles for .98: The second display shows 8.5oz. bottles for $2.27: Even in a no-coupon situation, the smaller Softsoap is the better buy of the two – it’s about .19 an […]
Crain’s Chicago Business talks Walmart Receipt Comparison Tool
Remember the Walmart Receipt Comparison Tool story I did at the end of August? I had just been to Meijer when I heard a Walmart commercial asking shoppers to send in their receipts to see how much more they would have saved if they’d shopped at Walmart. I sent my Meijer receipt in, and Walmart […]
Walmart’s “Receipt Comparison” tool: Inaccurate and misleading (Evening update: They changed my receipt!)
Walmart recently rolled out a Receipt Comparison tool in Chicago and a few other cities nationally. The challenge? Go shopping at your regular store, send in a photo of the receipt, and within 24-48 hours, Walmart will email you back how much you could have saved by buying ten of those same items at Walmart. […]
Where Walmart gets it wrong: The comparison-shopping challenge
The Sunday Chicago Tribune has an interesting ad (Sec. 1, Page 7 – or click to zoom) comparing an identical shopping list at Walmart and at Jewel. They compare identical items’ prices at both stores, then note that the Walmart list is $14.43 cheaper than Jewel. In a big, red circle, the ad notes “SHE […]
Retail coupon fraud ring at Walmart
A couple of weeks ago, a story of retail coupon fraud at a Michigan Walmart hit the news. Employees were accused of utilizing coupon fraud to purchase around $100,000 worth of merchandise, which they later sold on the black market. Today’s Michigan MLive has new details about the case: Boulter believes the group bought in […]
Hit-or-miss produce prices (and… should I check out Walmart’s produce department more often?)
Here’s a deal I stumbled across, partially by chance and partially by frustration. I went over to Jewel-Osco to get fresh green beans (.79/lb) to make for tomorrow’s Easter dinner with my extended family. As I was walking out the door, my husband asked me to pick up some bell peppers for a dish he […]
“Right place at the right time” clearance: $1 flannel sheets at Walmart!
So, I ran to Walmart tonight to return a Redbox movie rental (which cost .33 after that great Groupon a few weeks ago) and I spotted a shopping cart near the entryway of the store. There was a sign on the cart stating that everything inside was on clearance for $1.
What was in the cart? Large photo frames, many varieties of window curtains and valances, fabric shower curtains, and sets of flannel sheets.
