Sweet Island Ham & Pineapple Snackers

Earlier this summer, Carl Buddig and Company asked me to partner with them as a Buddig Deli Mom and create some meals and snacks with deli meats that aren’t sandwiches! In June, I shared our Ham and Cheese Quesadillas, and in July, we made Ham, Apple, and Cheese Roll-Ups! This time, I took a reader’s suggestion to incorporate the sweet flavor of Hawaiian rolls with another Buddig treat…

Sweet Island Ham & Pineapple Snackers

Ingredients:

  • Buddig Premium Black Forest Ham
  • Grated/shredded cheese of your choice
    (I used Dubliner, as its crisp taste with a hint of sweetness works really well here! Swiss or Mozzarella are great choices too.)
  • Package of Hawaiian rolls
  • Can of pineapple chunks or tidbits
  • Onion
  • Butter
  • Cooking oil

Preheat the oven to 350. Heat the skillet with a splash of cooking oil over medium heat.

Chop the onion. If using pineapple chunks, chop them into tidbits.  Dice the Buddig Premium Black Forest Ham as well.

Scrape all ingredients into the skillet and and sautee in the pan until the onion caramelizes and the ham lightly browns.

Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half. Place rolls cut side up on a cookie sheet and butter the cut sides.

Top buttered roles with about a tablespoon of the ham, pineapple, and caramelized onion mixture. Then, top with the grated cheese of your choice.

Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for five minutes. Let them cool (just a little – they’re delicious when hot!) and serve.

These are so good. Seriously good. They’re the kind of thing you might think of making for a party, but then after trying them, you think, “Maybe we’ll just eat them all right now.” I had to shoo my boys out of the kitchen until I had enough time to take “after” photos for my blog! 

“Are you done with photos now?”

“Yes.”

  8. One of my favorite ways to use Buddig is by putting ham on a grilled cheese sandwich or by putting ham in scrambled eggs for an egg sandwich.
