Earlier this summer, Carl Buddig and Company asked me to partner with them as a Buddig Deli Mom and create some meals and snacks with deli meats that aren’t sandwiches! In June, I shared our Ham and Cheese Quesadillas, and in July, we made Ham, Apple, and Cheese Roll-Ups! This time, I took a reader’s suggestion to incorporate the sweet flavor of Hawaiian rolls with another Buddig treat…
Sweet Island Ham & Pineapple Snackers
- Buddig Premium Black Forest Ham
- Grated/shredded cheese of your choice
(I used Dubliner, as its crisp taste with a hint of sweetness works really well here! Swiss or Mozzarella are great choices too.)
- Package of Hawaiian rolls
- Can of pineapple chunks or tidbits
- Cooking oil
Preheat the oven to 350. Heat the skillet with a splash of cooking oil over medium heat.
Chop the onion. If using pineapple chunks, chop them into tidbits. Dice the Buddig Premium Black Forest Ham as well.
Scrape all ingredients into the skillet and and sautee in the pan until the onion caramelizes and the ham lightly browns.
Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half. Place rolls cut side up on a cookie sheet and butter the cut sides.
Top buttered roles with about a tablespoon of the ham, pineapple, and caramelized onion mixture. Then, top with the grated cheese of your choice.
Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for five minutes. Let them cool (just a little – they’re delicious when hot!) and serve.
These are so good. Seriously good. They’re the kind of thing you might think of making for a party, but then after trying them, you think, “Maybe we’ll just eat them all right now.” I had to shoo my boys out of the kitchen until I had enough time to take “after” photos for my blog!
“Are you done with photos now?”
It only takes a little creativity to make more than a sandwich. Carl Buddig & Company is family-owned, and their mission is to make meals and snacks more delicious for families around the country, offering premium deli meats without a premium price.
Buddig Premium Deli Meats are offered in 8-ounce and 1-pound packages in the following varieties:

Love quick and easy recipes. After school snacks are a must in my family.
I always buy Buddig lunch meat and now that some of the sizes come in those plastic reusable containers, I’m even happier. They taste great and at the big supermarket I go to, are never priced as high as other brands.
I’m sorry, it looks like your recipe is being enjoyed! I hate pineapple though so I’m having a difficult time imagining it. ;)
